      Flight of the Bumblebee is easier to play quickly on piano since you don't have to worry about tone and intonation unlike violin

    • @MrJdsenior
      @MrJdsenior Před 4 lety +10

      Yes, amazing, I tried it and you can hear where he is shaving a few notes here and there, but not nearly as many as I would have guessed (meaning guessed not by listening at speed, just by assumed necessity, my 'ears' aren't that good, but I'll bet Cateen was aware of every time something went ary, cool that he 'put himself out there' for the attempt, gutsy, actually, IMHO. He could have easily stopped when he started encountering ANY significant mistakes). You can also tell where the timings are off a bit. It IS incredible how intact and accurate it is when he plays it at that speed.
      You can also go the other way, and see what it sounds like at at 4 intervals (each) at up to 500 bpm. What it sounds like is...not even remotely humanly possible. I wondered if there are many actions, if any, that could accommodate that rate, so I got curious to take a first cut and looked up Peter Bence's single note one minute record on the Bose. You can tell when you listen that Peter had portions that were slightly above the average, and a couple significantly below so I added 5% to his total for that, which gives 800 bpm on a single key. Obviously using different keys it can operate MUCH MUCH faster than that, but for a single key, on the Bose he was using, it at least accommodated that, so as a quick reasonable first cut lower bound, anyway, that is what I found. FYI, if you care, OW ignore my esoteric engineering/physics/general interest driven ramblings. ;-)

    As the speed increased the friction and pressure between you and the keys sounded as if I could actually hear the beat of wings as if the bumblebee tried to keep up and make it to the end before you. In my mind I saw the race start and colors speed by, the ground as it was pushed away, each inhale at the crest of a hill and the silence as you both reached the finish. Beautiful. Thank You

    Dear Cateen: This is really a mark of true genius, playing with dexterity on a toy piano. I never thought this was possible. So, in this case, then, a cheap 88 full-size e-piano, even a Casio, could convert my cerebral and claws, customizing myself to consider Carnegie Hall.
