Hope you guys enjoy! As mentioned in the video, the Izuru portion could contain implied spoilers for DR0, so be cautious. It all really just depends on how well you’re able to analyze information on whether or not it could be a potential spoiler tbh. For the most part I really just think that my argument there won’t make as much since if you haven’t read DR0 yet. ALSO, since this video ended up being so long, I didn’t re-explain or simplify my theories as much here as I’ve done before, so I hope the video isn’t too confusing. But if you have any questions or anything I’d be happy to answer them!
One of you guys also recommended that I contrast and compare Naegi’s, Hajime’s, and Komaeda’s different views of hope as well which I was planning on including in the video but since it ended up being so long I decided to just compare Hajime and Komaeda’s views and responses to talent instead. But I thought it was a really cool idea so I may make an entirely different video for it or just include it in a different Character Analysis video, like if I ever did one for Naegi.
ANYWAYS THANKS FOR 25,000+ SUBSCRIBERS GUYS! And I hope you enjoy the video! :D

tbh what i love about hinata is how much he feels like a real person rather than a character. he has no exaggerated features or overly characteristic personality traits, but he's still an interesting character with believable and unique motivations, feelings, experiences and beliefs and he has his own characteristic mannerisms and traits. hes like a person you could cross on the street

I think Hajime is a reference to the Roman god Janus, due to :

2.) Having two faces. Or in this case, two personalities.

Even if Toi\ko (due to Genocider), and maybe, Junko (due to Ryoko Otonashi) has two personas, Hinata, by far, has the most resemblance due to case 1 ( in which Toko and Junko doesn't have.)

This video pretty much cements why Hajime is my favorite protagonist of the DanganRonpa games. (Not including NDRV3, since I haven't played those.) I think everyone can relate to his struggle with self-confidence. Naegi's unwavering optimism in the face of despair is noble, but I feel like Hajime's constant battle between believing in himself and giving in to despair was much more prominent and made his character arc so much more powerful. ❤️

    • @alyssaagnew4147
      @alyssaagnew4147 Před 7 lety +53

True, I also think it has do with his struggle with talent. In our world, we're often told that hard work pays off yet so many times we can work hard and still not succeed. On the other hand, we can see other people not put in as much effort and yet they do. I'd say trying your hardest and still being in others' shadows is a lot more relatable than someone who just got the chance of a lifetime on pure luck.

Btw, I have some sort of headcanon that the large portion of his inferiority complex might be brought from his parents. Perhaps, they are talented and workaholic people and they have rather high expectations for Hajime. They agreed to go along with this project of making him super-talented because of these expectations and because they wanted their son to be "worth" of something that bad. I just can't imagine that parents who accept their child the way they are would let someone to "enhance" his mind through some shady project.

Which makes the scene right before Chiaki’s death, in which she said she knew Izuru was Hajime, even more poignant.
I have reason to believe that Chiaki was the only person who gave Hajime the unconditional acceptance and love that he never received from his family. So when she spoke to him before dying, Izuru felt a lot of guilt over the fact that he had essentially abandoned the most important person in his life. He grew angry with Junko for manipulating him and so decided to leave the academy, yet when he heard about the situation in Towa City, he felt a need to act. That’s why he eventually took the AI chips and connected them to the NWP.
When he reverted to his original identity of Hajime Hinata, he ended up getting to know the other students personally. And he soon came to appreciate their presence in his life... yet his deepest bond was arguably with the AI replica of his old friend. Her words and her heart now touched him, affected him in ways Izuru could never have predicted.
The final act of Hajime and his friends to eliminate AI Junko was the result of the bonds he had formed with the Ultimate students... and with himself. His victory was based in the self-compassion he had gained from his interactions with the people he didn’t initially expect to care about. He learned to forgive himself for his past mistakes and move forward into his future, a future he could not anticipate yet was willing to embrace as it came.
“Don’t forget about me. Even when you get out of here.” - AI Chiaki Nanami

Great analysis! Hinata really is a very complex and relatable character. Only disagree on a few things:
1: I don't think Kamukura knew despair was going to win in the NWP...he follows up his "we will not meet again" with "you are boring after all".So it seemed more like he just didn't want to talk to Komaeda again because he was bored by him rather than 'knowing' despair would win. Otherwise, what would be the point of doing it at all?
2.: I do think Kamukura was affected by Nanami's death beyond just not being able to explain why he cried. If it was just interest in the unexplainable, I think he'd have held onto some memento of despair or Enoshima as well. That said I don't think her death was what 'broke' his spirit, since if anything he seemed more motivated after.

I think Izuru was just assuming that either Junko or Makoto would win, which would both result in Izuru being overwritten. He didn't know anything substantial about Hajime and probably didn't consider the third option of both of them coming out in a scenario where despair had the upper hand.

Nagito, in the game, gave a speech about how people who try to become talented and cant are the worst kind of trash, and i think Hajime felt that way about himself. Meeting Chiaki made him feel better about having no talent though. I feel like slowly he accepted it until the thing wit Natsumi happened. Then the thing with the wrestling guy sent him over the edge, like 2 steps forward, 3 steps back. I think for a while, Chiaki was his hope for a while there. i feel like there is more i though but im really tired so i cant think that well 😅

Marie Antoinette syndrome is highly speculated by experts to be implausible. I'm guessing you looked no further than the incomplete wikipedia article. Historians speculate that Marie Antoinette lost access to her cosmetics, meaning she already had gray hair, she just coloured it. Cases that made it appear that a person's hair suddenly turned white is when they had gray hair before, and then lost all the darker hair, leaving only the lighter ones behind. Fiction has sensationalized this idea and it is not based on science. As far as I'm concerned, the only way for hair to actually turn white overnight is bleaching that fuck out of it. While I'm a fan of the Tokyo Ghoul manga, the only way for Kaneki's hair to turn white like that is that he already had light hair and lost all the black hair. As for Danganronpa....it's Danganronpa, these people survive explosions.

I do feel like Hajime had extreme bad luck of meeting with Juzo and Tengen at school. If anyone of the main cast of Danganronpa 2 (excluding Nagito) had met with him, things might of been different. Even if he wasn't an Ultimate, he (along with Chiaki and Nagito) was doing extremely well in the Class Trials out of the group. Also, there was a chance (highly possibly) that the group would've even become friends with him. Even though Hajime told the survivors (ones who survived closed to the end) about him being in the Reserve Course, none of them didn't treat him badly. They still considered him one of their friends (and it's likely possible the ones who died would've also treated him like a friend). Now that I think about it, it's sort of different than how Nagito treated the others. While Hajime did looked up to the others because of their talents, he genuinely felt emotions for them (like being their friend, disheartened when someone died, and etc.). However, when it comes to Nagito, it felt like he respected the person's talent itself, not the person (since he was more bored or angered that Teruteru didn't try struggle so that hope can get brighter, and more happy about Teruteru dying because he was going to be a 'stepping stone' for hope).

I really love that in the end he was happy being the best him he could be, and not trying to be great because he felt small. I always like characters that are genuinely nice people, it is probably why I like a better majority of the class in DR2. I feel like any decent human being could probably get along with them, none of them were really concerned with talent, even Hajime and Nagito by the end were way more chill about things.

Well if you think about it, her real talent is Super Analysis, not Fashionista like she was brought in for. With her being a couple steps ahead of most everyone, and her finding an addiction to despair, she wouldn't want to kill herself any normal way. Like it was stated in the video, she wanted to create a plan that would set her up for failure; yes, it would be extravagant and incredibly despair inducing, but she wanted to make the plan very over-the-top and put her entire effort into it so that she could reach her own ultimate despair by letting it crush her. It's why she took such an interest in Naegi; his luck was completely unpredictable to her, and even though she'd been around others who had luck, his was too diverse and the only thing she couldn't predict. She could've easily killed Naegi before she initiated the killing games but she CHOSE to let him live because she believed a loser like him couldn't ruin her plans, which set her up for absolute failure and gave her the despair she so desperately longed for.

Wow. That's a lot of depth for such a character that I hardly knew much about! I think Hajime's character was made to be applied to a lot of different people. It's like Kodaka is telling the players or viewers to build up some confidence so that we aren't limiting the opportunities we see in life, and to stop only looking at the bad side of things. As someone who seems like the literal embodiment of Hajime's character, I find something like that really compelling.

Sooo many comments so I'll compile them into one
1:45 - Tegan is an asshole
3:30 - So Nagito, someone who has shown to be quite capable and also posses talent doesn't feel worthy, meanwhile Hajime someone with an inferiority complex and works his butt off has a sense of entitlement, without any real talent
    Interesting duo those two...
4:20 - Imagine if Natsume didn't get killed and actually did a 180 and stopped being a jerk and making enemies. Imagine how this would have affected the Chiaki x Hajime scenario, but then again Junko would have reined supreme in the end regardless because..... thanks Juzo!
5:45 - He does have a talent: *[Ultimate Chick Magnet]*
8:20 - I dunno whose more responsible at this point for the Tragedy, Junko or Juzo. If Juzo was honest, would that have stopped Junko's plan and saved the world?
8:40 - "Impress his new girlfriend Chiaki" by dissapearing for a year, growing and dying his hair Jet Black and being the lead singer of the band *The Despairs* which would go on to preform many hits
9:20 - Hopeful, works hard but falls short. Becomes main villian. Obito Uchiha anyone?
    10:00 - Super Sayian Hajime
10:20 - If Nagito never instigated, would have the killing game even started? My theory is that Monokuma would keep throwing motives until someone eventually did kill someone
10:40 - Spot on, I feel he's the most relateable because like us he is surrounded by Ultimates way above his calibre in their respective fields and we're all as curious and intimidated as him about the whole situation. I feel it works x10 better than chasing Sayaka, a girl who Naegi's been lurking on the internet for 6 years.... but then again she was a tutorial and fanservice device and a way for the creator to add shock value by killing the girl we thought would be the love interest of the story.
11:10 - "More blunt than Naegi" well..... Naegi was literally riding along having his hand held by Kirigiri the entire game. Without her I'm pretty sure they'd still be meeting for morning breakfast right about now.
11:35 - If Chiaki says "I think" one more time during a life or death situation where our lives are determined by whether or not we can convince the other parties of something, I'm gonna explode
12:20 - He can't string together a comeback to save his life
13:00 I wanted to slap Hajime in Trial 6. When things hit breaking point he assumes the fetal position
13:50 - At least he doesnt look like he's about to play a Yugioh card each time he feels confident. Dammit Naegi, put down that arm!
15:20 - Nagito is a masochist.... just sayin
    16:40 - Read it, let's do this!
17:30 - Boy with chainsaw puts down gun and charges into melee combat with unknown black haired guy that looks like he could summon Satan at any moment. "Ultimates" my ass
18:30 - Nature favours the lazy. Think about it. Predators go extinct more often than the prey.
19:10 - Someone get Izaru a girlfriend. Oh wait....
20:30 - Junko broke Izaru, Chiakis death broke Izaru, Junko caused Chiaki's death, Izaru enabled Junko to cause Chiaki's death...
23:20 - No real spoilers from Zero tbh since everything you mentioned is either mentioned or implied in Danganronpa 2 & 3
24:00 Hajime was chosen for the Izuru Kamukura project because the student profiles were sorted by Birth Date

Honestly weeby, this is such a beautiful analysis. I did relate to him back in school, still do as an adult. :(. I remember back when I graduated, I saw many of my classmates being really successful & I got really jealous. I wanted to be like my classmates who had successful lives (having families, having a luxury life, and having their own businesses). I felt nothing but sadness & envy. I did work hard in school and wanted to be something. :(. I did thankfully go to community college and I’m still taking classes figuring out my career path.
My experience with DR2: the ending really made me cry, since I did relate to Hajime so much. :(. I remember having many insecurities about myself. I love the overall message by saying “Believe in yourself, no running away from struggles, and make your own future.” I love that so much :).

I actually Have A Theory About the DR3Anime. To be Specific: the Future Side Op's "Death Scenes".
I made this theory a while back, and looking back on it now, I find it shocking how Close some things are...
I tried not going into Too much Detail: What if, The "Death" scenes are actually what each character is Dreaming about:
Dreams Hold a lot of meaning, so after looking some stuff up...
Kirigiri - Being Hung by Rope : "[Likely] death might be the result of self sacrifice or it might be as the result of social action; a punishment because of feelings of guilt... reflects depression, loss of any pleasure in life, a retreat from pain, or feelings of hopelessness or guilt"
Asahina - Being Stabbed in the Stomach : "blade generally indicates that the dreamer is making some important or difficult decisions in their waking life"-"being stabbed symbolises the dreamer being wounded by someone's words or actions...guilt, shame and disgrace"
Izayoi - Being Burned by Fire : "To dream that you are being burned alive suggests that you are being consumed by your own ambition."
Seiko - Being Stabbed Multiple Times[By Syringes] : "To dream that you have been stabbed, signifies your struggle with power. You may be experiencing feelings of inadequacy and defensiveness. Alternatively, you may be feeling betrayed" "Being stabbed by Syringes may suggest complacency, yearning and companionship"
Juzu - Being Cut in Half : "the release of deeply buried feelings or tension. In some dreams it shows the release from restraints or the awareness of deeply buried past experiences"
Tengan - Being Electrocuted : "To dream of an electrocution, indicates that the current course of your actions will lead to disaster. The dream also represents fear and the consequences of your actions"
Ruruka - Being Broken like Glass : "Dreams about glass may symbolize being fragile, easily hurt or breakable."-"Broken glass may symbolize negativity, broken promises, shattered dreams, disappointments, etc. in life."-"If you dream that you are made of broken glass then this symbolizes the idea that your emotions have been compromised... You do not feel as secure as you once did because someone has violated your trust"
Daisaku - Drowning : "drowning depicts fear of being overwhelmed by difficult emotions or anxieties [Natural Conflicts]; Drowning in a dream is also about struggling to survive as a person, so it applies to your identity as it is dealing with relationship with other people, but also with your own internal world of instincts, body activities and needs."
Gekkogahara - Being Split in Half : "To dream about half of something suggests that there is an unsettled aspect within your life that needs to be addressed. It could also signify that you do not completely accept your emotions"-"A person splitting in two can represent someone who is “two-faced” or dishonest. If you dream that you split into two, you are feeling very conflicted over a personal decision, or about what direction you should take in your life."
Hagakure - Being Wrapped in Vines : "Vines represent all of the struggles that we have in life, as with anything that constricts or frustrates us in general... Vines tend to come up in dreams because the dreamer is going through a time of feeling that level of frustrating constriction"-"Thorny vines indicate being over protective of those around you."-"To see one overgrown with vines, foretells that happiness will result from sorrow or loss of relatives."
Chisa - Slitting Your Wrist : "To dream that you are cutting yourself indicates that you are experiencing something so emotionally unbearable that you are willing to cut yourself out of your own life and totally end it all in one stroke."-"suicide captures the simple feeling - I just want to give up."
Gozu - Wrapped in Chains : "Chains in your dreams represent some extremely strong emotions and forces in your life that are holding you back."-"a dream containing a chain is a sign that you cannot progress in your life without the help of others."-"To dream of being bound in chains, denotes that unjust burdens are about to be thrown upon your shoulders"-"Dreaming that you are chained up could mean either You're feeling that someone is trying to control, limit, or deny you freedoms or You're feeling that you're limiting yourself"
Mitarai - Being Shot [In the Heart] by Arrows[3] : "If you are hit by an arrow in your dream, this shows that you feel as if you have been exposed."-"Being shot with multiple arrows often leads us to question challenges, conflicts and difficulties with matters of the heart."-"multiple arrows would indicate feeling bombarded by matters of the heart. This could be jealousy but often, this would indicate harsh words or judgments by friends and family"
Kizakura - Being Wrapped in Plastic : "Plastic can suggest an artificial relationship or something that may block us from expressing what is real. If it is connected to the body it can be something artificial that was taken into you...many things are wrapped in plastic to preserve them, So it can suggest a protective influence."
Munakata/Mokoto - Shotting Yourself in the Head : "If you dream of being shot with a gun, it can easily mean that you are trying to get rid of some aspect of yourself, or that you do not like or accept some elements of your persona."-"To see a shooting in your dream, indicates that you have a set goal and know what you are aiming for in life."
If anything, A lot of the meanings i found are Shockingly related to an aspect of each of the corresponding characters. However, The Descriptions above come from many different places and may not fully represent the "Dream" of each character...
I would love hear your thoughts, regardless! Thank You For reading this big Mess!

one theory is that after chiakis death izuru was fully on hopes side, and that he intentionally went through with junkos sdr2 plan knowing that his hajime side could win, could being the major word here becuase i think he wanted a fair fght between hope and despair at the end to trully decide which was superior in his mind, as for why he told nagito they wouldnt meat again im thinking either he didnt think hajime would reawaken his izuru side or he meant he wouldnt be seeing the despair filled nagito again

Nor sure if you'll see my comment, but there are A LOT of characters that I'd like to see an analysis of:
-Fuyuhiko and Peko(mostly Peko) because not much people give her much attention, but Ind really like to hear about her past. And talking about her past obviously involves Fuyuhiko. But Fuyuhiko is my fave so that's okay haha
-Ibuki: I really like Ibuki and I just want to see a video where it's explained how she quit her group and fell into despair and all.
-Finally, Kazuichi and Ishimaru: I'm putting them both together here because I believ both didn't have any friends before and I think they were bullied as well(though I'm not sure for Ishimaru). But I'm just wobdering how Kazuichi's childhood went like, and Inm more curious about his relation with his dad and how he fell into despair(and some even say he made the executions in the first game too)
About Ishimaru, Ind love to see how he handled the problems with his grandpa and father(I read somewhere that his grandfather had done bad things and that he tried to fix it and all, resulting in his behavior)
Voila, I hope you'll actually read this comment and consider making an analysis video about one of those characters

  • @003D1
    @003D1 Před 6 lety +5

An important thing about Izuru is his need to understand his existence. Just as you said in your Junko analysis, they were both born with a great amount of power and talent, and were both quickly bored of living. Junko found a purpose to living by living with despair, where izuru was born with no sense of who he is, what he likes, and what his purpose is. Yes, the doctors told him that he was the ultimate hope, but what is hope to him? This is why he willingly went along with Junko, to introduce himself to the concept of despair.
So the question “what is hope and despair, which is more interesting to live with, and what is the purpose of living when you literally have all the talents in the world?” Can be answered with chiaki. After observing the student council massacre: despair, he then gets a glimpse of the other side of the coin: hope. Instead of being intimidated or revering his presence and power (after checking on Nagito after getting shot), Chiaki was more interested Hajime, his past identity who had “no talent at all”.
Later, seeing chiaki dying in front of him, he wonders what her last actions would be, and he’s shocked that it starts with her referring to him as hajime. And what’s more shocking is, after all of the suffering and torture she has suffered due to Junko, her last wish is to play video games with her friends.
Izuru is confused as to why this ultimate wanted to play video games with her friends, such a simple casual task that doesn’t bode any real impact on the world.
This causes Izuru to question the effect such a happy casual lifestyle has on someone, and how such a casual, simple, non powerful activity gave purpose to chiaki’s identity and life.
Izuru begins to cry, definitely because of Hajime’s lingering feelings. I also believe that Izuru kept Chiaki’s hair pin out of respect for her causing him to become confused, and causing him to question himself and his life even further.
Please correct me if I’m wrong (cause I’m very curious as to if this would be a logical head cannon) but I think Izuru helped gather all of the remnants of despair in order to go into the Neo world with them, and live a normal life with them m. Yes, he did input the Junko chip into the simulation (I think. Correct me if I’m wrong) but again it was because of his curiosity and his need to see how these people would react to her.
Long story short: Chiaki’s death really inspired Izuru to further question the purpose of his life and life in general, and I like to think he low key helped makoto gather all of the remnants of hope onto the boat.
