Mikan was a tragic villian, in contrast to Junko who had no reason to be insane and evil, Mikan had so many reasons to go insane that it's frankly impressive that she wasn't rendered entirely feral by her trauma, and the fact that she doesn't value weak people as anything other than toys is consistent with her upbringing, her sociopathic mental state is the logical conclusion of her upbringing, from a nature vs nurture perspective you can deduce that any good character traits she had were natural, but were completely overwhelmed by her abuse making her think that the weak deserve to be treated as objects

I think Mikan is a very relatable character for a lot of people. Bullying, abuse, the desire to feel loved, all that awful shit that she endured through no fault of her own. She needed a genuine source of kindness in her life...too bad that role was taken over by Junko.
True. That was actually something that ticked me off In game. Even if you were clueless it was pretty obvious mikan has serious trauma yet everyone on the island just did not care. If you notice the only time they interact with mikan is when they need something, or when their yelling/chastising her. Other than those 2 interactions, they kinda just ignore her the entire time. So after chapter 3 I was absolutely furious because they asked if the mikan they knew was real and she said yeah but I’m not that anymore and immediately after the trial they say: WaS ThAT ThE ReaL MiKAn? And I wanted to bash my head in cause she had just told them it was. I was so mad I hated all those kids for the next chapter. The only one I still respected after trial three was chiaki cause she was like the only nice one to mikan. and to see someone as relatable as mikan get brushed away and forgotten and ignored struck a cord with me. Man danganronpa 2 messed me up
@@shsltrash820 It was one of the things I liked least about Danganronpa 2, most of them were hypocrites. They said that they were all his friends and that they should understand them but when someone was different they marginalized him (In the case of Nagito and Mikan). He hated how Mahiru defended all the girls from the boys but then he let Hiyoko mistreat Mikan. Nagito and Mikan were the targets of mistreatment of the characters, Souda in the trials told Nagito to be quiet and then he jumped like "Why are you so calm?". The cast of Danganronpa 1 don't screw around bullying as much, Toko made fun of Asahina but she was never as heavy as Hiyoko and we even saw one character jump up to defend another when they passed (Oowada when he defended Chihiro from Byakuya). Makoto was extremely soft on mentally weak characters like Chihiro and Toko. While Hajime was always forced to deal with characters like Nagito and Mikan, in a free event he left Mikan hanging because she was frustrated by her strange attitude. When he was forced to feed Nagito, he let him fix himself, boy, I understand that the guy is crazy but he's tied up, he's not going to do anything to you, at least feed him if you don't want him to die. If you are normal they treat you but if you were weird they judged you and treated you like garbage. It doesn't surprise me that Nagito was the only one who knew Mikan's true dark nature, they were both made very similar, just as Celes was very similar to Byakuya.

A LOT of people HATE Mikan’s execution so here’s an alternate one I made: Mikan is in a waiting room at a hospital.Spikes rise up making a path to a door.She goes through the door and it disappears.Monukuma in a hospital gown appears and starts to throw pills and medicines at her.Syringes emerge from the ground going up and down IV drips fall from the ceiling and whip at her.Mikan then has to run through all of the obstacles.She sees Junko’s silhouette in the distance and runs to her but before Mikan actually sees “Junko” the silhouette hits Mikan over the head with a hospital cart. HAPPY NOW?
Another interesting fact that proves that she has been abused since she was a child, resides in suspicion, as already mentioned in the video, that she deliberately provokes ambiguous positions. Many people hate the character for this, asserting that it is only fanservice and that it causes those situations just to be watched and attract attention. This is very sad, since it is proven that children who have been abused often tend to behave provocatively or show their bodies on purpose because they think it is the right way to relate to someone. Considering that Mikan's mind has remained almost at the infant stage for many things (crying to be forgiven is proof), I consider this another good element to add to the theory. And about how unfortunate, sad and misunderstood this character is.

I have this theory about the Twilight Syndrome Murder Case group. What if the girls in the group ignored each other due to the fear of becoming murdered like Satou? Tsumiki would obviously try to get the group back together but in the end, it wouldn't work. Since they were Tsumiki's only friends, it would cause Tsumiki to fall into a deep depression. Junko would've saved her from that depression. When Tsumiki remembers, she might've killed Ibuki for leaving her alone. (Also, remember Saonji's murder wasn't planned. She was only killed for witnessing Tsumiki kill Ibuki)
i honestly hope the despair arc ends in all the girls reuniting and forgiving each other, and also kuzupeko becoming cannon cause the second trial ripped out all of the shipping hearts!!!
I hope despair arc thoroughly crushed your expectations, as it did with mine. Instead of adding to the story, it actively takes away from the experience of SDR2 instead. Disappointment is the only word for that crap.

I don’t really think Mikan’s execution makes sense, so I came up with one: Mikan is in an hospital waiting room, the bell rings and it was her turn to see the doctor. Then monokuma, dressed in an doctor uniform, walks out with other people ( bullies ) dressed in surgeon uniforms. They starts throwing rocks at her, Mikan tried to run away but the door won’t open. Next, the room started filling up with acid, it started absorbing everything including monokuma and the bullies. Finally, the acid eventually sucks up Mikan and the screen on the wall showed a video of Junko saying that she hates her. The acid then explodes with everything sucked in it.
Emma Li it did make sense. she was drugged, sent to space on a giant arm (that she was scared of), got an orgasm & got her organs burned (as the arm zoomed to space) it wasn’t enough for me though the other murders were more brutal
People don’t understand the chapter 3 from the second game and it annoys me! Mikan was brainwashed by Junko just like the other 15 students were. When she got the remembering disease, she remembered being brainwashed by Junko and that’s why she went crazy as hell and kept calling Junko her lover.
I wanted her to die because she's clearly designed to be a killer and her motivations could be wonderfully tragic, but I hate that they basically erased her character to make it happen. Also her execution was super lame.
Okay. To those who are wondering about how they Got Junko's body parts, and/or had...sex with her corpse. It's possible that the Junko they saw, wasn't actually Junko at all. Junko was crushed in the first game; her body was demolished. But "Junko" aka Junko's sister is still in one piece in a way (despite being burnt from and to the upper torso). Plus I don't think they knew how she died. (Unless they saw the broadcast.) But it's merely a theory.

I know this comment is years old, but I'm finishing up a playthrough of Danganronpa 2 (i finished the first one) and I'm wondering what all these comments about Mikan and Junko are about? Especially the whole "sex with her corpse" thing...could you explain? I read Mikans wiki and nothing
@@PwnageEngage It's only in the Japanese version of Danganronpa 2. It states that when the remnants of despair heard of Junko's death they kind of did... things... to her body. Like for example: Someone (Nagito) removed their arm and replace it with Junko's, as well as someone (Implied to be Mikan) took Junko's womb to have Junko's baby.
When Mikan is yelling “forgive me!” I kind of think of it as the fact that she has had no choice but to brush off and forgive people for all the awful things they have done to her. She saw how Junko was celebrated for being the ultimate despair. And Mikan’s crimes, though undeniably horrible, pale into comparison to what Junko has done. Mikan is unable to understand why the group is unable to forgive her. She has forgiven so many people who she shouldn’t have for fear of being cut off. And when you’re constantly treated like garbage, it warps your sense of what is and isn’t acceptable to do to a person.

1) The Japanese version never implied anything more than the English one did. They just said one of them implanted Junko's womb and the fandom agrees it was Tsumiki because she's the character that fits the idea the best. 2) 許す means both "forgive" and "accept". The ideal would be to choose the proper word according to context, but the localization decided to consistently translate it as "forgive" regardless of the situation in order to point out to the player how much she repeats that word.
This was great! Mikan is one of my favorite characters and it always bugs me when people say they don't like her because she cries too much. This video showed how deep of a character Mikan really is. Nice job!
Mikan execution was actually all a hallucination. She was injected with a poison slowly killing her. Which makes the execution slightly better seeing it now.
I can’t help but love her. She’s just trying her best! She was abused and bullied, and then brainwashed into doing awful things! Then she caught a disease that made her do even MORE terrible things. She would of been dead though? Lmao, Plus the ending of V3 doesn't match up. Plus their name's are different and I don't know why they would do this no reason. And also pretty much their hair is color is the only similar thing at first. But Natsumi has green eyes and a noticeable blush while Kaede's eyes are pink and her only blush is showed in her frowning sprite but isn't as noticable as Natsumi. And their personalities seem to be completely different. Natsumi's a cruel and mean girl who is able to go out of her way even hurting other people just to stand tall and proud next to her older brother in the main course with a talent. Kaede is a care free joyful person who always trys to look for something positive in everything. Not to mention their past doesn't match up, Kaede has been playing Piano ever since she was little and has performed over seas including infront of other proffesional pianist. The only thing we really know about Natsumi is she grew up in the Kuzuryuu clan but you'd think she would of been scouted by the main course already for such a talent. And yet still she's in the Reserve course claiming to Hajime to be a Super High School Level Little Sister not Pianist which Is something more accurately she would of pointed out if she knew she had that talent. As I said their place of death doesn't make sense either, Remember Kaede came into the Other Hope's Peak (Makoto's) Which is set up after the Tragedy has cleared out. While Natsumi attend Jin's Hope's Peak, Where Junko made her plans and both the 77th class and the 78th class were still students. And even before Junko arrived to start her plans about the tragedy Natsumi was found dead because she was threatening to send someone to kill Mahiru and Sato killed her before she could do anything. So theirs so much things that don't match up or make sense it's just simply their hair but even then pretty sure Kaede's is brighter and also Natsumi doesn't have an Ahoge.

sdr2 is really bad when it comes to sexualizing female characters who experienced sexual trauma. Akane also has a heavy backstory in that regard and her design... I don’t think I need to explain why that’s messed up
While the fan service is super unnecessary some people that have been sexually abused actually become hyper sexual and sexualize themselves for attention because they get used to the feeling. This could very much be what Mikan experiences but yes the fan service is very unnecessary.
I've actually heard a rather convincing theory that the person that Tsumiki is in love with is Kamukura. She would have been able to connect Kamukura with Hinata once she regained her memories, and it would give us a stronger reason for why she would want to fall asleep on top of him. And as for her reason why Kamukura "forgave" her: in his eyes, she's every bit as useless and boring as everyone else, thereby making her equal to everyone except him. And I've never interpreted Tsumiki's abuse as being sexual in nature; she never says anything to that effect outright, focusing instead on performing humiliating tasks and being physically abused. The lone exception to this is the stripping, but even then, I always imagined as being her stripping down to her underwear (not nude), not for the sexual pleasures of her bullies, but just for the humiliation factor, and also so that they could do things like throw mud at her. I just think it's a touch too dark to introduce straight-up sexual assault into her backstory. I also feel you neglected to cover her ability to determine how someone is feeling by looking at their face. She is very perceptive in this regard, and it's possible that her personality was shaped by this. Hinata, in her final free time event, tells her to stop looking at people's faces so much and worry about herself a little more. Hopefully, the DR3 anime Despair Chapter will give us definite answers to these questions. ...Tsumiki is my ultimate waifu. Of all time.

Superfield a lot of people think that her beloved is Izuru yes but I believe her beloved is junko. I mean she got her memories back and the first thing she did was kill 2 people not 1 two. So maybe she knew about junkos plan and wanted to help her and kill them so junko could come back and complete her "junko-fy all mankind" plan. But that's my theory.
I'm so glad I saw this! There were a lot of things I agreed on with this analysis. I've been cosplaying as Mikan for the past 2 years as she's my favorite character from any series. I about screamed when I saw someone suggested about Mikan trying to have Junko's babies. I said the same damn thing when I finished the game awhile back because WHO ELSE would even attempt something like that but also she's a nurse who could try to pull something like that off. You pretty much summed up everything really well so thank you. And I'm happy to see this because I feel like A LOT of people dislike her but she has a lot of character depth and motive for her actions. This made my day so much better. I hate being the only one to feel strongly about a character and know every single detail and this video summed it up. Thanks!
Since nobody understood mikan’s execution: here’s an explanation First, mikan is in a hospital bed, as you can see, the syringe monokuma bought is oversized just to mock mikan (as she dislikes oversized things) Then the ... hand part Mikan is traumatized and scarred because of sexual abuse, so because monokuma is an asshole, he bought a giant hand (as referring to um... you know) and then when mikan sat on it with a... weird position, monokuma bought the syringe and put the syringe on the hand causing it to.. vibrate(?) as a mocking to mikan’s trauma AND she could have an...orgasm moments before she dies because Monokuma wanted her to feel despair before she dies Next, she can’t survive being blasted to space because she’ll die of a heart attack by shock
Junko brainwashed/abused Mikan and made her fall in love with her, that’s why she killed Ibuki, so basically “brainwashed Mikan killed ibuki” if she wasn’t brainwashed by Junko, ibuki would be probably the one Mikan would fall in love with.

Waifu doesn’t essentially mean over sexualized. A waifu could be a character you’d love irl and would treat them better than others did. My “husbando” is Nagito because he was so unlucky, suicidal, and really did want the best for people.
Like others said it would be really awesome if you could do a theory on how the DR2 cast fell into despair and became the Ultimate Despairs. I also think it would be interesting if you could do an analysis on not just the characters but Hopes Peak itself. For me Hopes Peak is a really intricate and interesting design that, when I think about it, I'm very curious about. Especially during Zero which gives the most information about the building itself. If possible an analysis of just the school itself and even the administration that Junko was able to over through so easily. :) Great videos and I'm excited for these releases on Steam as well as the upcoming 3 and v3!!
Um, just a suggestion, maybe you should do an analysis on Hajime/Izuru? It would interesting to see more into the decision of him becoming Izuru. Also, Mikan never intended to kill Hiyoko as she was only killed because she was at the wrong place at the wrong time so she couldn't have kill Hiyoko just for her to feel more despair. Just wanted to point that out.

4:23 Actually, Ibuki was the only one of the two which she meant to kill; Hiyoko just ended up getting involved after becoming a witness. I think that Mikan decided to kill Ibuki because either she was just the most vulnerable on the state she was in, or maybe she was the closest to Ibuki out of every person in the friend group and wanted to cause herself more despair. In the beginning of the anime, you can see Ibuki rushing to help Mikan as she starts to slide off the bridge, hearing her say something along the lines of “I’ve got you sweetie!” Based on how Ibuki has reacted to others who share the same sex as her as well as the opposite sex, it is pretty safe to say she is either Pan or Bi; The same can be said about Mikan. I can imagine Ibuki being the one to cheer Mikan up if she started to cry too. And if I’m correct, from what I’ve heard, Ibuki apparently forgives Mikan for what she did. I don’t know if I’m just assuming things or not but I think that, before everything went downhill, Mikan and Ibuki were either best friends or possibly even lovers at one point or another.
Mikan's my favorite character for many reasons. She has a similar past (bullying and lack of friends) and somehow she became a clumsy and frightened introvert with very poor social skills, just like me. She is quite smart unlike me though. I wonder if we lived in the same reality, whether would we be able to make friends with each other. Or we would be too awkward to even speak with each other.

When I googled why Mikan loved Junko, it says that she has dependant personality disorder. I always thought ever since watching the anime that when Mikan came to see Ryota’s hypnotic animation she was brainwashed into being sexually dependant to Junko ever since then, leading up to the Neo World Program? I don’t get it lol
While DPD makes sense, her behaviour also aligns closely with histrionic personality disorder even before she regains her memories. She fears being ignored more than being abused or hated, she (most likely) intentionally places herself in compromising positions, and she spends most interactions trying to stay on everyone’s good side. HPD also regularly stems from childhood abuse.
After this and V3 I’ve always thought of Miu Iruma as a kind of opposite Mikan Tsumiki, whereas Mikan was always treated badly by the parent(s)/adult(s) in her life and became a timid doormat, Miu got only positive interaction and compliments from her parent(s)/adult(s) in her life reinforcing her with a huge confidence boost, warping her into the arrogant person she became. Also supported by all the times she gets challenged/insulted/yelled at and she recoiled like she’s never had that happen before. (Don’t really have any thoughts on how that could link to the kinky sexual stuff, but I’m not an expert :P)

Man, am I the only one who went here just to here more about Mikan after her trial ended. Like I truly broke my heart when I realized she was the killer, since she was the first character I got maxed hope fragments with (and I always try to max out hope fragments with one person before talking to another so this means I spent all of my first free time with her). I wanted to understand why she was acting like and I also thought it’d be useful to be good friends with the ultimate nurse in a killing game and even she never directly helps hajime by like patching him up, she ends being very useful with her autopsy analysis. So it’s also why I was fairly confident she wouldn’t get killed even in an execution so we could benefit from her autopsies throughout the entire game. So, her being the killer really suprised me. It’s literally the first time so far (so far because I am literally writing this right after finishing chapter 3) that I didn’t chose the right killer ok first try. I had to try a few others before concluding it could only be her. There are probably other things I wanted to say but I’ve probably forgotten them so I might add them in an edit, but anyways I’m curious to ear how others felt during her trial.

I resonate with Mikan on why she takes pride in being the ultimate nurse. Seeing someone weaker than you gives you power over them, and they have no choice but to give you attention because you are their caretaker. Especially when that same power dynamic is used against you from an early age. My reasoning isn't as traumatic but it's still enough to harbor such an unhealthy yearning of power. Overall its not a completely bad thing to want to take care of people, but its a very unpure way of thinking about it
I don't think Junko manipulated Mikan in a negative way, but rather in what one would consider a positive way. It's pretty clear that for Mikan, her love for Junko is a much stronger motivation than despair. I would argue that this makes it more likely that Junko "cared for her" and picked her up when the entire world seemingly kicked her down. Then she probably used some things we saw in Mikan's free time, simply showing her just how strong she could be by trampling over the sick who desperately needed her help and were themselves helpless. At least that was my interpretation of it, I haven't watched the DR3 anime yet.
One thing about mikan I think people overreact to is her comment on having power over her patients, she dident word it that well but it’s not inherently meant in a bad way. mikan is someone who already bows to everyone else’s whims and is scared to death of being ignored, she is in a very traumatic state of mind do to abuse she alludes to, so when she is the ultimate nurse, that is the only time she can ever be in a stable mindset, they won’t hurt her, they won’t verbally lash out at her, she feels needed as people depend on her so nobody is ignoring her, it’s not inherently that she is abusing power over her patients, but it’s the only situation where she has any sort of positivity in her life, cause even among her classmates their either indifferent or mean towards her or just straight up ignoring her, outside of chiaki nobody in the class gives a crap about her so home life sucks, school life sucks, even hopes peak sucks, which is why the brainwashing was so easy for mikan, their was no reason at all for her to resist, what or who would she resist for? their is not a single soul that shows any love for her or treats her with any human decency, then theirs nursing. Like a candle in a pitch black room, it makes sense she would gravitate toward that mindset in regards to nursing. Honestly it’s amazing she had not mentally snapped after all that, nursing is really the only thing keeping her from just breaking down. Well, more so than she already is.
i have two theories for her loving despair: the first is what i believe you said because she knew junko would love it so she tried to give herself that love she never really had and number two is to make herself feel comfortable because she grew up with something similair to that if that makes sense
I feel so bad for her. Danganronpa tackled the serious topic of what abuse can do to you psychologically as I can make you feel useless, alone, desperate for any love or attention, etc. I HATED Mikan for killing two of my favorite characters but rewatching this and understanding why she did it and getting to know more about her (as I didn’t know a lot abt her originally) she’s actually one of the greatest characters IMO. It breaks my heart that things had to go bad for her because I thought things would’ve turned out better, but again this is a game about despair.
I really hated how they sexualized mikan in her execution. They even gave her a HORRIBLE outfit in the 10-year anniversary. On top of that, she's completely fcked up because of all the bullying and harassment which is why she stutters and cries alot. I love her sm she deserves the world
Why did she need to be executed? She didn't deserve it, just why? Also, her execution made me confused because it looked like she survived and in her Danganronpa wiki, her status says alive. So her execution was kinda pointless.
Please make more character analysis, it would be so cool. Especially if you made analysis's for other characters that get misunderstood, such as Teruteru, Kazuichi, Nagisa, and Jataro. (I honestly find it funny how most of the male characters get mischaracterized.)
She's such a tragic character. :( But this is a great analysis. I'd love to see ones focusing on Fuyuhiko, Peko, Gundham, Chihiro, and Mondo (although it's entirely up to you, of course). Thanks for this interesting video. :)
Maybe a better execution for Mikan would be monokuma using a voodoo doll to force her to overdose on pills and inject drugs into herself. She would keep doing that until she died. Maybe she could execute herself due to her being tired of the bullying she had. It would fit with her talent and her backstory in my opinion

I think it that way because she never get a mental breakdown as the Mikan we all loved always said sorry to everyone. Mikan's life problem could've been solved easily with just one little good deed to her and then she may never get the idea to kill someone.
I didn't really listen to the whole analysis yet, but I personally think her parents were just normal parents, maybe too busy to notice or deal with her injuries and problems at worst. So either she was toi ashamed and tried to hide it all while dealing with it herself, since when sge was younger, her parents would dismiss any injury, small or big and she learned to not whine or trust anyone to care, or they still do and she dies the same

Mikan was a tragic villian, in contrast to Junko who had no reason to be insane and evil, Mikan had so many reasons to go insane that it's frankly impressive that she wasn't rendered entirely feral by her trauma, and the fact that she doesn't value weak people as anything other than toys is consistent with her upbringing, her sociopathic mental state is the logical conclusion of her upbringing, from a nature vs nurture perspective you can deduce that any good character traits she had were natural, but were completely overwhelmed by her abuse making her think that the weak deserve to be treated as objects

I think Mikan is a very relatable character for a lot of people. Bullying, abuse, the desire to feel loved, all that awful shit that she endured through no fault of her own. She needed a genuine source of kindness in her life...too bad that role was taken over by Junko.
True. That was actually something that ticked me off In game. Even if you were clueless it was pretty obvious mikan has serious trauma yet everyone on the island just did not care. If you notice the only time they interact with mikan is when they need something, or when their yelling/chastising her. Other than those 2 interactions, they kinda just ignore her the entire time. So after chapter 3 I was absolutely furious because they asked if the mikan they knew was real and she said yeah but I’m not that anymore and immediately after the trial they say: WaS ThAT ThE ReaL MiKAn? And I wanted to bash my head in cause she had just told them it was. I was so mad I hated all those kids for the next chapter. The only one I still respected after trial three was chiaki cause she was like the only nice one to mikan. and to see someone as relatable as mikan get brushed away and forgotten and ignored struck a cord with me. Man danganronpa 2 messed me up
@@shsltrash820 It was one of the things I liked least about Danganronpa 2, most of them were hypocrites. They said that they were all his friends and that they should understand them but when someone was different they marginalized him (In the case of Nagito and Mikan). He hated how Mahiru defended all the girls from the boys but then he let Hiyoko mistreat Mikan. Nagito and Mikan were the targets of mistreatment of the characters, Souda in the trials told Nagito to be quiet and then he jumped like "Why are you so calm?".
The cast of Danganronpa 1 don't screw around bullying as much, Toko made fun of Asahina but she was never as heavy as Hiyoko and we even saw one character jump up to defend another when they passed (Oowada when he defended Chihiro from Byakuya). Makoto was extremely soft on mentally weak characters like Chihiro and Toko. While Hajime was always forced to deal with characters like Nagito and Mikan, in a free event he left Mikan hanging because she was frustrated by her strange attitude. When he was forced to feed Nagito, he let him fix himself, boy, I understand that the guy is crazy but he's tied up, he's not going to do anything to you, at least feed him if you don't want him to die. If you are normal they treat you but if you were weird they judged you and treated you like garbage.
It doesn't surprise me that Nagito was the only one who knew Mikan's true dark nature, they were both made very similar, just as Celes was very similar to Byakuya.

Another interesting fact that proves that she has been abused since she was a child, resides in suspicion, as already mentioned in the video, that she deliberately provokes ambiguous positions.
Many people hate the character for this, asserting that it is only fanservice and that it causes those situations just to be watched and attract attention.
This is very sad, since it is proven that children who have been abused often tend to behave provocatively or show their bodies on purpose because they think it is the right way to relate to someone.
Considering that Mikan's mind has remained almost at the infant stage for many things (crying to be forgiven is proof), I consider this another good element to add to the theory.

I have this theory about the Twilight Syndrome Murder Case group. What if the girls in the group ignored each other due to the fear of becoming murdered like Satou? Tsumiki would obviously try to get the group back together but in the end, it wouldn't work. Since they were Tsumiki's only friends, it would cause Tsumiki to fall into a deep depression. Junko would've saved her from that depression. When Tsumiki remembers, she might've killed Ibuki for leaving her alone. (Also, remember Saonji's murder wasn't planned. She was only killed for witnessing Tsumiki kill Ibuki)

I don’t really think Mikan’s execution makes sense, so I came up with one:
Mikan is in an hospital waiting room, the bell rings and it was her turn to see the doctor. Then monokuma, dressed in an doctor uniform, walks out with other people ( bullies ) dressed in surgeon uniforms. They starts throwing rocks at her, Mikan tried to run away but the door won’t open. Next, the room started filling up with acid, it started absorbing everything including monokuma and the bullies. Finally, the acid eventually sucks up Mikan and the screen on the wall showed a video of Junko saying that she hates her. The acid then explodes with everything sucked in it.

Okay. To those who are wondering about how they Got Junko's body parts, and/or had...sex with her corpse. It's possible that the Junko they saw, wasn't actually Junko at all. Junko was crushed in the first game; her body was demolished. But "Junko" aka Junko's sister is still in one piece in a way (despite being burnt from and to the upper torso). Plus I don't think they knew how she died. (Unless they saw the broadcast.) But it's merely a theory.

When Mikan is yelling “forgive me!” I kind of think of it as the fact that she has had no choice but to brush off and forgive people for all the awful things they have done to her. She saw how Junko was celebrated for being the ultimate despair. And Mikan’s crimes, though undeniably horrible, pale into comparison to what Junko has done. Mikan is unable to understand why the group is unable to forgive her. She has forgiven so many people who she shouldn’t have for fear of being cut off. And when you’re constantly treated like garbage, it warps your sense of what is and isn’t acceptable to do to a person.

1) The Japanese version never implied anything more than the English one did. They just said one of them implanted Junko's womb and the fandom agrees it was Tsumiki because she's the character that fits the idea the best.
2) 許す means both "forgive" and "accept". The ideal would be to choose the proper word according to context, but the localization decided to consistently translate it as "forgive" regardless of the situation in order to point out to the player how much she repeats that word.

She would of been dead though? Lmao, Plus the ending of V3 doesn't match up. Plus their name's are different and I don't know why they would do this no reason. And also pretty much their hair is color is the only similar thing at first. But Natsumi has green eyes and a noticeable blush while Kaede's eyes are pink and her only blush is showed in her frowning sprite but isn't as noticable as Natsumi. And their personalities seem to be completely different. Natsumi's a cruel and mean girl who is able to go out of her way even hurting other people just to stand tall and proud next to her older brother in the main course with a talent. Kaede is a care free joyful person who always trys to look for something positive in everything. Not to mention their past doesn't match up, Kaede has been playing Piano ever since she was little and has performed over seas including infront of other proffesional pianist. The only thing we really know about Natsumi is she grew up in the Kuzuryuu clan but you'd think she would of been scouted by the main course already for such a talent. And yet still she's in the Reserve course claiming to Hajime to be a Super High School Level Little Sister not Pianist which Is something more accurately she would of pointed out if she knew she had that talent. As I said their place of death doesn't make sense either, Remember Kaede came into the Other Hope's Peak (Makoto's) Which is set up after the Tragedy has cleared out. While Natsumi attend Jin's Hope's Peak, Where Junko made her plans and both the 77th class and the 78th class were still students. And even before Junko arrived to start her plans about the tragedy Natsumi was found dead because she was threatening to send someone to kill Mahiru and Sato killed her before she could do anything. So theirs so much things that don't match up or make sense it's just simply their hair but even then pretty sure Kaede's is brighter and also Natsumi doesn't have an Ahoge.
She deserves to be protected people hate her bc "she cries too much just to pretend and get what she want because it's leverage for her" uh no, that's Hiyoko. Mikan deserves so much more love, care, and respect she really does have a kind heart in her but, with all of the bullying and trauma she's gone through it really is sad, plus on top of that with Junko brainwashing her which eventually lead to her getting the despair disease in sdr2 and she remembered the brainwashing Junko did and that's why she killed Hiyoko and Ibuki

While the fan service is super unnecessary some people that have been sexually abused actually become hyper sexual and sexualize themselves for attention because they get used to the feeling. This could very much be what Mikan experiences but yes the fan service is very unnecessary.

I've actually heard a rather convincing theory that the person that Tsumiki is in love with is Kamukura. She would have been able to connect Kamukura with Hinata once she regained her memories, and it would give us a stronger reason for why she would want to fall asleep on top of him. And as for her reason why Kamukura "forgave" her: in his eyes, she's every bit as useless and boring as everyone else, thereby making her equal to everyone except him.
And I've never interpreted Tsumiki's abuse as being sexual in nature; she never says anything to that effect outright, focusing instead on performing humiliating tasks and being physically abused. The lone exception to this is the stripping, but even then, I always imagined as being her stripping down to her underwear (not nude), not for the sexual pleasures of her bullies, but just for the humiliation factor, and also so that they could do things like throw mud at her. I just think it's a touch too dark to introduce straight-up sexual assault into her backstory.
I also feel you neglected to cover her ability to determine how someone is feeling by looking at their face. She is very perceptive in this regard, and it's possible that her personality was shaped by this. Hinata, in her final free time event, tells her to stop looking at people's faces so much and worry about herself a little more.
Hopefully, the DR3 anime Despair Chapter will give us definite answers to these questions.

Superfield a lot of people think that her beloved is Izuru yes but I believe her beloved is junko. I mean she got her memories back and the first thing she did was kill 2 people not 1 two. So maybe she knew about junkos plan and wanted to help her and kill them so junko could come back and complete her "junko-fy all mankind" plan. But that's my theory.

I'm so glad I saw this! There were a lot of things I agreed on with this analysis. I've been cosplaying as Mikan for the past 2 years as she's my favorite character from any series. I about screamed when I saw someone suggested about Mikan trying to have Junko's babies. I said the same damn thing when I finished the game awhile back because WHO ELSE would even attempt something like that but also she's a nurse who could try to pull something like that off. You pretty much summed up everything really well so thank you. And I'm happy to see this because I feel like A LOT of people dislike her but she has a lot of character depth and motive for her actions. This made my day so much better. I hate being the only one to feel strongly about a character and know every single detail and this video summed it up. Thanks!
Since nobody understood mikan’s execution: here’s an explanation
First, mikan is in a hospital bed, as you can see, the syringe monokuma bought is oversized just to mock mikan (as she dislikes oversized things)
Then the ... hand part
Mikan is traumatized and scarred because of sexual abuse, so because monokuma is an asshole, he bought a giant hand (as referring to um... you know) and then when mikan sat on it with a... weird position, monokuma bought the syringe and put the syringe on the hand causing it to.. vibrate(?) as a mocking to mikan’s trauma AND she could have an...orgasm moments before she dies because Monokuma wanted her to feel despair before she dies
Next, she can’t survive being blasted to space because she’ll die of a heart attack by shock

Waifu doesn’t essentially mean over sexualized. A waifu could be a character you’d love irl and would treat them better than others did. My “husbando” is Nagito because he was so unlucky, suicidal, and really did want the best for people.

Like others said it would be really awesome if you could do a theory on how the DR2 cast fell into despair and became the Ultimate Despairs. I also think it would be interesting if you could do an analysis on not just the characters but Hopes Peak itself. For me Hopes Peak is a really intricate and interesting design that, when I think about it, I'm very curious about. Especially during Zero which gives the most information about the building itself. If possible an analysis of just the school itself and even the administration that Junko was able to over through so easily. :)

Also, Mikan never intended to kill Hiyoko as she was only killed because she was at the wrong place at the wrong time so she couldn't have kill Hiyoko just for her to feel more despair. Just wanted to point that out.

Actually, Ibuki was the only one of the two which she meant to kill; Hiyoko just ended up getting involved after becoming a witness.
I think that Mikan decided to kill Ibuki because either she was just the most vulnerable on the state she was in, or maybe she was the closest to Ibuki out of every person in the friend group and wanted to cause herself more despair. In the beginning of the anime, you can see Ibuki rushing to help Mikan as she starts to slide off the bridge, hearing her say something along the lines of “I’ve got you sweetie!” Based on how Ibuki has reacted to others who share the same sex as her as well as the opposite sex, it is pretty safe to say she is either Pan or Bi; The same can be said about Mikan. I can imagine Ibuki being the one to cheer Mikan up if she started to cry too. And if I’m correct, from what I’ve heard, Ibuki apparently forgives Mikan for what she did. I don’t know if I’m just assuming things or not but I think that, before everything went downhill, Mikan and Ibuki were either best friends or possibly even lovers at one point or another.

Mikan's my favorite character for many reasons. She has a similar past (bullying and lack of friends) and somehow she became a clumsy and frightened introvert with very poor social skills, just like me. She is quite smart unlike me though. I wonder if we lived in the same reality, whether would we be able to make friends with each other. Or we would be too awkward to even speak with each other.

When I googled why Mikan loved Junko, it says that she has dependant personality disorder. I always thought ever since watching the anime that when Mikan came to see Ryota’s hypnotic animation she was brainwashed into being sexually dependant to Junko ever since then, leading up to the Neo World Program? I don’t get it lol
While DPD makes sense, her behaviour also aligns closely with histrionic personality disorder even before she regains her memories. She fears being ignored more than being abused or hated, she (most likely) intentionally places herself in compromising positions, and she spends most interactions trying to stay on everyone’s good side. HPD also regularly stems from childhood abuse.
After this and V3 I’ve always thought of Miu Iruma as a kind of opposite Mikan Tsumiki, whereas Mikan was always treated badly by the parent(s)/adult(s) in her life and became a timid doormat, Miu got only positive interaction and compliments from her parent(s)/adult(s) in her life reinforcing her with a huge confidence boost, warping her into the arrogant person she became. Also supported by all the times she gets challenged/insulted/yelled at and she recoiled like she’s never had that happen before. (Don’t really have any thoughts on how that could link to the kinky sexual stuff, but I’m not an expert :P)

Man, am I the only one who went here just to here more about Mikan after her trial ended. Like I truly broke my heart when I realized she was the killer, since she was the first character I got maxed hope fragments with (and I always try to max out hope fragments with one person before talking to another so this means I spent all of my first free time with her). I wanted to understand why she was acting like and I also thought it’d be useful to be good friends with the ultimate nurse in a killing game and even she never directly helps hajime by like patching him up, she ends being very useful with her autopsy analysis. So it’s also why I was fairly confident she wouldn’t get killed even in an execution so we could benefit from her autopsies throughout the entire game. So, her being the killer really suprised me. It’s literally the first time so far (so far because I am literally writing this right after finishing chapter 3) that I didn’t chose the right killer ok first try. I had to try a few others before concluding it could only be her. There are probably other things I wanted to say but I’ve probably forgotten them so I might add them in an edit, but anyways I’m curious to ear how others felt during her trial.

I've never really liked her fan service moments, but I love her voice because it sounds adorable
I resonate with Mikan on why she takes pride in being the ultimate nurse. Seeing someone weaker than you gives you power over them, and they have no choice but to give you attention because you are their caretaker. Especially when that same power dynamic is used against you from an early age. My reasoning isn't as traumatic but it's still enough to harbor such an unhealthy yearning of power. Overall its not a completely bad thing to want to take care of people, but its a very unpure way of thinking about it

I don't think Junko manipulated Mikan in a negative way, but rather in what one would consider a positive way. It's pretty clear that for Mikan, her love for Junko is a much stronger motivation than despair. I would argue that this makes it more likely that Junko "cared for her" and picked her up when the entire world seemingly kicked her down. Then she probably used some things we saw in Mikan's free time, simply showing her just how strong she could be by trampling over the sick who desperately needed her help and were themselves helpless. At least that was my interpretation of it, I haven't watched the DR3 anime yet.
One thing about mikan I think people overreact to is her comment on having power over her patients, she dident word it that well but it’s not inherently meant in a bad way. mikan is someone who already bows to everyone else’s whims and is scared to death of being ignored, she is in a very traumatic state of mind do to abuse she alludes to, so when she is the ultimate nurse, that is the only time she can ever be in a stable mindset, they won’t hurt her, they won’t verbally lash out at her, she feels needed as people depend on her so nobody is ignoring her, it’s not inherently that she is abusing power over her patients, but it’s the only situation where she has any sort of positivity in her life, cause even among her classmates their either indifferent or mean towards her or just straight up ignoring her, outside of chiaki nobody in the class gives a crap about her so home life sucks, school life sucks, even hopes peak sucks, which is why the brainwashing was so easy for mikan, their was no reason at all for her to resist, what or who would she resist for? their is not a single soul that shows any love for her or treats her with any human decency, then theirs nursing. Like a candle in a pitch black room, it makes sense she would gravitate toward that mindset in regards to nursing. Honestly it’s amazing she had not mentally snapped after all that, nursing is really the only thing keeping her from just breaking down. Well, more so than she already is.

the first is what i believe you said because she knew junko would love it so she tried to give herself that love she never really had
and number two is to make herself feel comfortable because she grew up with something similair to that if that makes sense

I feel so bad for her. Danganronpa tackled the serious topic of what abuse can do to you psychologically as I can make you feel useless, alone, desperate for any love or attention, etc. I HATED Mikan for killing two of my favorite characters but rewatching this and understanding why she did it and getting to know more about her (as I didn’t know a lot abt her originally) she’s actually one of the greatest characters IMO. It breaks my heart that things had to go bad for her because I thought things would’ve turned out better, but again this is a game about despair.
I really hated how they sexualized mikan in her execution. They even gave her a HORRIBLE outfit in the 10-year anniversary. On top of that, she's completely fcked up because of all the bullying and harassment which is why she stutters and cries alot. I love her sm she deserves the world

Why did she need to be executed? She didn't deserve it, just why? Also, her execution made me confused because it looked like she survived and in her Danganronpa wiki, her status says alive. So her execution was kinda pointless.
Please make more character analysis, it would be so cool. Especially if you made analysis's for other characters that get misunderstood, such as Teruteru, Kazuichi, Nagisa, and Jataro. (I honestly find it funny how most of the male characters get mischaracterized.)

Maybe a better execution for Mikan would be monokuma using a voodoo doll to force her to overdose on pills and inject drugs into herself. She would keep doing that until she died. Maybe she could execute herself due to her being tired of the bullying she had. It would fit with her talent and her backstory in my opinion

I still wonder if anything could change Mikan drastically to save her. You know, to save her from being a culprit and whilst that saving her from being executed. She sure is an extreme character, but what if anyone else she loves besides Junko, could probably be in love with her if she have the reasons because one of the boys seriously confess and accompany with her, then would she actually forget about Junko? I think it that way because she never get a mental breakdown as the Mikan we all loved always said sorry to everyone. Mikan's life problem could've been solved easily with just one little good deed to her and then she may never get the idea to kill someone.

I didn't really listen to the whole analysis yet, but I personally think her parents were just normal parents, maybe too busy to notice or deal with her injuries and problems at worst. So either she was toi ashamed and tried to hide it all while dealing with it herself, since when sge was younger, her parents would dismiss any injury, small or big and she learned to not whine or trust anyone to care, or they still do and she dies the same
