    My chrome cast was having so many issues with buffer, loading content, lowering resolution to stream. Was so fed up with it after 3 years I went out to buy an Apple TV. What a major difference in performance. I liked the Chromecast features, but the performance was so poor for me. Shocked it can't handle 1GB connect in a single household where the modem is merely 15-20 feet away.

    • @GriffinWiebel
      @GriffinWiebel Před měsícem +7

      Agreed. Hoping Google makes a newer Chromecast that rivals the Apple TV's performance. It's the only reason I still have my Apple TV.

      @S4nt11PC Před měsícem +1

      I had a similar issue, it was not consistent and was extremely frustrating to have it buffer when the network was much more than capable of handling a 4K stream, I decided to test with an ethernet adapter and it solved all the issues, hard to know why that happened since the location where it is has a strong wifi signal, my phone gets 500 plus mb/s without any issues and it used to work perfectly until about a month a go, it feels like there is some sort of software bug that is impacting the wifi connectivity, I know the hardware can handle the load, it has done it for years now for me.

      My Chromecast 4k has trouble loading commercials and it gives the "Big G of Death" and then reboots itself and you are back to the beginning and as soon as you go back to the App you again get the Big G of Death as soon as a commercial starts to load

  • @austin.paquette
    @austin.paquette Před měsícem +13

    I hope the next model is an actual box with a bit more processing power. I use mine every day, and there are times when it really chugs. Like, press a button, nothing happens for 10 seconds chugs. It also displays 4k videos fine but trying to interact with the CZcams description, comments, like button, etc while the video is playing is also chug city. Just a bit more power could do the next Chromecast a world of difference. Also, bring back dedicated play/ff/rw buttons on the remote.

    I bought one for my parents LG TV as it didn't support any form of casting (except CZcams) and the WebOS interface was far too clumy to use.
    Fair to say it exceeded all expecations! It's surprisingly quick in navigation and while it can occasionally hiccup it's still miles ahead of any of the TV interfaces I've ever used.
    I ended up liking it so much I bought one for myself and straight up replaced the ageing Android TV on our ~6 year old Philips TV. The Chromecast is much quicker, the remote is nicer and it allows us to merge controls with our soundbar, something I was never able to achieve with the standard Philips remote/software.
    For the relatively low price there's no better way to watch TV imo. Even the internal storage has been a non issue since I recently made a Plex server at home that houses all my movies/TV shows. That + Netflix and CZcams is more than enough content for me. 9/10 would recommend. (-1 point for the very occasional hiccups due to the older specs)

  • @chrisad1177
    @chrisad1177 Před měsícem +4

    For the price, Google got most of the formula right with the CCwGTV, and expansion via USB C was an effective way to make up for lack of storage, etc. Hoping for a stronger chip and a bump in memory/storage a la the Onn 4K Pro

  • @BriGuyThompson1
    @BriGuyThompson1 Před měsícem +2

    One thing that has bothered me since day one of this chromecast is with my personal library of movies there is no "show all" button with a list view. As someone with a pretty large library of movies it's very annoying to scroll forever to the right when I want to watch a movie that starts with the letter "T." Still holding out for an update for that. I would also gladly pay for a higher end version of this device with a more premium feeling remote and updated specs to make the UI more snappy.

    What a was briefly touched on here was the the advantage of using a usb hub. All of mine have been upgrades with a usb-c hub and external power supply, web camera, multimedia keyboard (logitech K600), flash drives, ... etc. Google TV with chromecast is a flexible powerhouse. I'm looking forward upgrading them all with the new streamer form factor.

      I've yet to upgrade my main Onn 4K box as it does all I need it to do when it stops getting updates, and I'll consider the new Pro Model, I just wish they would release a version without the speaker as there are people like me who have Google Nest Home Hubs, Google mini speakers, and others like Lenovo smart clocks with Google all over their houses, and I've found too many speakers in the same room can cause issues, or lags in them responding too you.

    I have the 4K, and HD versions at home, and I'm happy enough with them, but for the money if you're in the US the ONN 4K boxes from Walmart are just as good for the money with a little better remote, as I have few of them at home, and at work running a senior center for a non profit, having said that, I also keep Roku 4K sticks on my 2 main TV's at home, and work for apps that are not on the Chromecast, or for ones that get updated faster on Roku like Peacock here in the US.

    I would like to ask everyone, if you have a chromecast with google tv, are you experiencing WiFi issues lately? I had to get an ethernet adapter to get it to work as it used to, which is weird, my network is still the same, the signal is strong, but via Wifi it buffers always, with the ethernet dongle it just works perfectly, no issues, it even feels snappier, the interface works better, overall it feels like when it was new, still some hiccups here and there but nothing major, happy to be able to continue to use it.

    I switched to Web OD built into my LG TV due to CZcams forcing it's screen saver to run on the Chromecast, it's really annoying that Google/CZcams doesn't allow for disabling the CZcams screen saver, it prevents my TV from shutting down if CZcams is left unattended, a significant inefficiency and waste of power.
