    Just changed mine out yesterday! thanks for the great vid! No more battery light! and yeah, getting the alt out was a pain in the butt. especially when I didn't realize the ground lead was still plugged in!

    Worked great!! I also unbolted steering pump for extra room based on another youtube video. For 2007 the t-bar is two piece which saves a step. I want to thank the person who took time to make this video, THANK YOU!! saved me money and hassle of scheduling work.
    FYI- for those that find hood not latching fully. Just loosen and push the whole assembly up.

    Thanks for the video. Although I hate doing work like this in general, this made the job easier for sure. I appreciate it.

    Thanks for the video. Just finished this up tonight. I pulled the one radiator fan off for more room as well. Also, the various plugs and clips at the bottom of the T-Bar are a pain in butt.

      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety

      You welcome, I agree about those clips, they tend to break easily too, you can buy them on eBay by the bag for cheap

      Have fun David, very tight spot. Someone suggests to unbolted the power steering pump from the engine to make more room (hose still attached). I never tried it, could work...thanks for the feedback

    The plastic piece covering the radiator top and the t-bar doesn't need to be removed just how to remove the reservoir tank and the power steering pump and you'll be able to remove that alternator from that Honda

      HAHA..wish i would have seen the reply before i started...but eather way it was easy...less then 2 hours to remove then replace the alternator...and found a broken ground wire that goes to the A/C...now i know why it stoped working..lol...but Thanks Again...very helpfull video

    I'm going to do this this weekend (hopefully). I'm replacing the water pump and belt tensioner while I'm in there since I'm at 150,000 miles and have never replaced anything. I figure it's all there together I might as well just take it apart once instead of doing it again later.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety

      My kind of weekend...Is your water pump noisy? It should be good for another 100,000 miles

    • @benjiG19
      @benjiG19 Před 7 lety

      Joe Baker it's not noisy as far as I know. Right now all I can hear is the alternator.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety

      Changing your water pump may be overservicing, won't hurt anything, I guess...make a video

    • @benjiG19
      @benjiG19 Před 7 lety +1

      Joe Baker it was a pain in the butt to get that water pump out and back in. We got it, though. I replaced the main upper and lower radiator hoses too.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox

      Should be good for the next 10 years...

  • @jessb1775

    I'm literally playing Tetris trying to get the alternator out. Made room and it still won't come out. Keeps hitting everything. Throwing tools as we speak. I hate working on cars

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety

      Joe Baker I changed my starter and it took me 2 hours. I had to remove lots of things to get to that sucker ! But you know it saved me around 400 bucks

  • @nissanelement43
    @nissanelement43 Před 5 lety

    Did you take off the bottom two bolts from underneath? Also, is your 12 pt wrench a ratcheting kind? My bad if it's a blonde question... It's just that you sort of skip the actually removal of the bolts action

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 5 lety +1

      Those 2 bolts are hard to reach, the best way that work for me is to moved the radiator towards the right side, then the bolts will be right in front of you, then use a ratchet and a long extension to reach the bolts (12mm or 10mm not 100% sure). Hope that help
      For more working room you can move the power steering pump out of the way without disconnecting the hose. Hope all this make sens

      @@JoeBakerOutsideTheBox Thank you brother

  • @scottshisler725

    Taking the radiator out would have been a big help... more room to maneuver, and it'd give you the same opportunity to flush the cooling system, while you're at it.
    And so much less blasphemy.
    I had to build myself a serpentine belt removal tool with an offset 14mm line wrench, a 3/4" socket, and two 1/2" inch drive socket extensions.
    Still beats paying dealer labor fees.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 6 lety

      It's in a tight spot, I replaced the alternator on my older Element a few weeks ago. This time I also removed the power steering pump (without disconnecting the feed line), the radiator does not need to be removed but can be slide on the battery side to make room for a 12mm socket and extension to reach the bolts underneath the alternator

    • @scottshisler725
      @scottshisler725 Před 6 lety

      I believe that they built that car around the motor, with utilities attached.
      It's funny... I spent over an hour trying to wedge the alt in that tight spot, when it started to get dark.
      I let it go until the next day.
      It just about dropped into place in the morning.
      Glad I scarred my knuckles on British cars. It helped.
      All in all, this one's a keeper.

    Have no idea how you got that last plastic pressure connector from the bottom of the tbar. Did you do it from below?

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety +1

      yes I did, you need to remove the plastic splash pan that's attached to the bumper to access it

  • @tencowsinc.6592

    How did you get the two screws on the lower end of the alternator? I'm on that step now and there doesn't seem to be enough room.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety

      I slide in a 12 points wrench on the bolt behind the tube. It's really tight but workable.

    • @tencowsinc.6592
      @tencowsinc.6592 Před 7 lety +1

      So I did it with a universal joint on my drive and used a 12mm to get it out.

      @bikewhorder Před 6 lety +1

      Yeah I watched this vid and didn't understand why I would need to remove the radiator support, you don't! I could see removing the electric fan if you wanted to give yourself lots of room but I don't really understand how removing the brace would even help.

    i just replaced my element's alt with rebuilt ultima. is it any good?

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety

      I don't have any experience with ultima. The way I see it any remanufactured part is a bit of gamble, if the part is under warranty and easy to swap, no big deal

    stripped the top bolt dang it. any ideas?

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 7 lety +1

      Ouch...If it was me, I would squirt the bolt with penetring oil and tap it side way with a punch to unscrew it a bit, then vice grip. Google "stripped bolt on a tight spot" a few ideas there...good luck

    Hi guys I'm wondering if someone could help n give me some tips regarding my alternator. I was jump starting another vehicle with my 06 Honda Element, when the alternator in the Element caught fire. I obviously have to replace the alternator but does anyone know what other cables devices and parts i should inspect or replace? That would be a lot of help. Thank you.

    • @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox
      @JoeBakerOutsideTheBox  Před 6 lety +1

      If you are lucky only the alternator wiring harness, I had a short like that on a vintage 63 Buick Riviera. The wiring burnt right through the firewall....inspect all of your wirings...good luck

    DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY!!! Just remove power steering pump and coolant overflow container. You have to flip the alternator around to remove.

      I know, I know and mention it in the comments. But for those with big hands it's good to know there is a different way

  • @largesizejellyfish3014

    well i hope its my battery thats gone bad, and not the alternator. It looks like a pain in the butt.
