Driver management is important.
The Old driver is in a container for reverting back to previous versions, it does take space up. I use System Restore which was first in Windows ME, but not 2000, then XP~11... It has saved me headaches on drivers, but you should do a backup before changing drivers
Correct
Sage advice... once bitten, twice shy as they say. System snapshots have saved my butt more than once.
@@bokami3445it helped me be able to report a glitch in 1 and the glitch got corrected 6 months later (some things take time)
I'd even go as far as just backing up the whole windows folder, run a linux distro from a usb, copy the windows folder that way. Install all the windows drivers, if the system fails to boot after driver updates, just run linux again and replace the windows folder and try again, maybe try 1 driver at a time.
Snappy not only finds drivers for old hardware, but it actually finds almost any driver even for the latest hardware.
Very interesting and informative video. Thank you Brian, will definitely be looking into this as my laptop is about 8 years old now.
@Britec09 I would like to thank you so much for this video. The Driver Store & Snappy Driver are and have become very useful to me. I have an older machine, and this gave such peace of mind for the older drivers on my machine as well updating what I have. Again, thank you so much.
Great video ! I was looking for a tool to export, import, backup drivers and you help me a lot 🎉 Thanks 👍🏻🙏🏻
im dont need this video to mange the drivers but yea i love who you love who you keep up on youtube and keep uploading :)
You're the best!
Bloody brilliant Brian !! Bookmarked this matey cheers.
You're welcome
Another good video, thanks for that. I learned a while ago to save the driver store folder before a re-install & it has got me out of trouble.
I can't say enough good things about snappy driver installer.
When I wanted to use Win10 on new hardware, the manufacturers drivers sets would not install correctly not matter what I did. To the point I couldn't even see what drivers were missing to install because windows was so cryptic. SDI fixed all of those issues. Never had an issue installing Linux on the same hardware and actually worked a little better with system resources and performance.
I'll have to try the driver backup software. That looks interesting.
Great comment at the end B. I believe it's coming home, too.😊
thanks
Being nervous about deleting the olds, I would want to export these, but that doesn't appear to be its default function. Would I have to export all and pick out the olds to keep?
Use system restore backup
@@shadowopsairman1583 Yes. Thx.
Windows updates are soo efficient these days that we don't need third party solution.
Anyways great video brother ❤🎉
Windows installs old drivers, so manufacture is still the way to go
@@Britec09 but sir manufacturers stop giving updates on their websites after 2-3 years and then third party apps like iobit driver manager comes handy!!
Like my hp gaming laptop got updates for 2 years on hp website now they have old drivers listed. Only BIOS updates are provided on regular basis now
Based on firsthand repeated experience...no, not always.
@@alxr101101 I was sharing my experience
I have a backup of my drivers. Used at that timea command in command prompt run as administrator, to du that.
I agree to use Snappy Driver to find drivers on old hardware.
As you said Brian dont download the whole pack for Snappy Driver. As I remember the pack is 25 Gb or more now. So it is huge. Have a nice weekend.
Snappy driver installer works for me every time
driver explorer is a very useful software
Snappy Driver often aborts when you try to download the latest driver packs. This problem has been in the software for over 2 years now/
Stop windows update from installing drivers by installing LTSC edition of Windows, Home and Pro editions force drivers from windows update even if you use group policy to stop it
Learn how to just disable Windows update completely and use powersell to install only security updates, also you disable it in registry alongside group policy, there is a component in system to prevent windows from installing drivers automatically even, just find advanced system settings/system properties->Hardware Tab->Device Installation Settings
Hey britec do you have a video for “other devices” where it says unknown device etc? Every time I do fresh install I get missing drivers. Thanks
How do they determine "old"?
Date of creation
👍👍 .
Hands on, by making sure you're watching video and having to search internet for link for program
Adding links now on my site, give me a chance
Add Links
CAUTION!! This is NOT a good idea! I ONLY go to the manufactures site, and get the drivers from them.
Exactly do not trust third party software for drivers. For a tech channel he definitely should not be recommending this.
He's an idiot
Like I said in the video.
You don't listen or watch the video. I said my preferred method is go to manufacturer website.
@@Britec09 - I heard you, I was making a point!
Hmm interesting Brian but as I said the other day that you need drivers for anything to work has always annoyed the living bejesus out of me as I think that any hardware should simply work as their own entity.
Up dating drivers is NOT advised, as the updated driver IS less compatible. :( Windows update 'killed' my WiFi every month - took me nine months for a perminate fix.
Very useful to just delete the old drivers. Handy tool to know thanks.
Glad to help
Good video, Brian, and on the satrngth of watching it, I now have my drivers backed up and a driver list saved to file. :)
You're welcome
Thanks mate 👍
No problem 👍
I have to ask. I have been watching your videos for a while now and I still can't make out what it is you say in your intros. Are you saying "What ya guys" or "Watch you guys"?
wotcha guys
Thanks mate. It turns out that there will be many drivers for the operating system. It's great that there are open source programs available! I have looked for Power Shell's driver backup restore on Windows 10 and above, but it failed, and I can't understand the reason for the failure. ( DeepL translation )
Glad I could help
Help a lot, although not familiar with the computer, but also has a basic concept, there is no driver computer equipment, is not working, the basis of everything, although only know a little bit; this is the first time to have a relatively high degree of perfection, the solution, the graphical interface dashboard, and the same as the car, there is a sense of security of the backup, there is a secret technology to obtain almost all the driver ( 41.7 GB ), hard work, and Grateful! ( DeepL translation )
thank you bud
You're welcome
You can manage drivers with traffic lights and stop signs.
Never knew that, I never stopped at traffic lights
That took me a second 😁
WOW! Brian's secret identity is.... The FLASH! that's why he never stops at traffic lights 🤣
Police
😂😅😂😅
This can be handy. Any way of doing something similar for Windows Update/patches?
I've just battled through BSOD on a current ASUS motherboard. ASUS website only listed 2022 drivers for the wifi and ethernet (that was causing the BSOD). So...quite the reverse of what you suggested....had to use 3rd party tools such as SNAPPY to obtain more recent REALTEK drivers that ASUS (nor MS updates) did not provide . ASUS only had a single version available too. And their ASUS tools app is quite useless at managing BIOS upgrades and drivers.
I used to use Driver Easy to update all my drivers on Windows but after it hosed Windows update twice forcing me to reinstall Windows I reverted to allowing Windows to update any and all drivers. I just don't trust third party software for this stuff.
Its Coming Home
Yes sir
