    As a Brazilian born and raised man, I am extremely proud of Taurus' recent pistols. I just picked up my G3C at my local FFL this afternoon! FBI check was "proceed" and I walked out with my cheap Taurus cardboard box in less than 20 minutes! Jokes about the cardboard box aside, this really is an incredible value. Three 12 round magazines, new Teflon finish, nice textured grip, railing for a flashlight, good size for concealed carry, all metal sights and full Glock sights compatibility, second strike capability and best of all, an extremely affordable price of $250~300 after FFL transfer fees. Of course you could get a Glock instead, but if you go with this gun, you'll have plenty of money to spare to get yourself 1,000 rounds of 9mm less than the price of a Glock. There's just too much to love about this gun. Looking forward to receiving my CCW in about 2 or 3 more weeks! Thanks Sooch for your great entertaining video reviews! I've also purchased a Tippmann M4-22 Mini about a month ago! Such a mean looking, yet sweet little beast of a gun! Loving my first two pistols! • @zerolabs
    @zerolabs Před 2 lety +12

    This video review contributed greatly to my decision to make the G3C my first ever gun purchase. I have few regrets. I did, however, run into ammo jams when manually operating the slide, ESPECIALLY with JHP ammo. I am not alone, and I know why.
    The feed ramp is really in two halves. The first half is cast into the slide rail assembly. The second half is machined into the barrel with a smooth face. There are two contributors to the jamming. #1) The leading edge of the barrel feed ramp is as sharp as a dull knife that literally cuts into the bullet tips if operated too slowly, and #2) #1 would not be a problem if the barrel feed ramp was constrained closer to the slide rail, not allowed as much freedom to flop up and down inside the slide, which would allow the bullet tip to ride high enough up off the leading slide rail feed ramp to engage only with the smooth face of barrel feed ramp and miss that sharp edge altogether! As is most often the case when releasing the slide too slowly, the barrel feed ramp is elevated slightly, forcing the front edge of a jacketed hollow point to scrap across that sharp edge before getting to the smooth face. I have close up photos of JHP rounds that jammed clearly showing cut marks made by that sharp edge of the feed ramp that should never engage the bullet tips in the first place! There are a lot of things I like about this pistol but this is not one of them.
    In lieu of a better designed slide/barrel from Taurus, I found my own solution, and it works. I will start by saying that if you do this, YOU WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY! I will follow that statement with I DO NOT CARE THAT I HAVE VOIDED MY OWN WARRANTY! I now have a firearm that loads JHP rounds far more reliably (even TMJ practice rounds which also sometimes had a problem) than it ever has, or that any stock G3C ever will (unless Taurus reads this, takes my advice and makes the necessary adjustments). I wrapped the barrel in paper towel and clamped in my bench vice pointed down. Using my Dremel with narrowest grinding stone at low speed I flattened the feed ramp knife edge. I should have taken baseline measurements but I'd guess I took off as much as 0.010" or slightly more. Then I rounded over the new flat edge with the same stone, followed by 500 grit emery paper, then polished with the small felt buffing wheel and compound. The result is a rounded over and polished feed ramp leading edge.
    This does three things. #1) The leading edge of the barrel feed ramp sits further back by ~0.010", allowing the bullet tip to ride further up the first half of the feed ramp in the slide rail before engaging with the 2nd half, hopefully missing the leading edge altogether, #2) Even if the bullet tips do engage with the 2nd ramp leading edge, they are FAR less likely to get caught against it because there is no more sharp edge to cut into them, and #3) It will void your warranty.
    Having said all this, I will also say that if one racks the slide all the way back and releases quickly so it snaps back to imitate firing, the operation is more reliable. I attribute this to momentum. When the bullet tips engage the 1st half of the feed ramp, momentum either carries the bullet tip up, avoiding the sharp edge of the 2nd half, or momentum of the slide itself is enough to push the bullet through the sharp edge, leaving behind copper and lead debris that will need cleaning. Regardless of which one is correct, I have far more confidence now modified that my firearm will function as I need it, WHEN I need it.
    The choice is yours. I am very happy with my own choice.

    I have owned a G2 for many years. I like it is because the top of the slide is tampered in on each side. Making it very comfortable to carry in a IWB holster. It does not have block edges like a Glock and other handguns. Taurus did not do that with the G3C. It is much more comfortable to carry than my Glock 26.

    Great review. I have the first generation G2 that I purchased just out of curiosity. It has been an excellent performer. In addition, I own several Taurus revolvers that love to shoot and I will be adding at least another. This is enough of an upgrade over my G2 and the G2c that I'm sure I'll be adding a G3c as well.

  • @ericg7183
    @ericg7183 Před 3 lety +2

    I picked up two of these in early August. I wiped one down, oiled up the rails and springs, tossed a couple silica gel packs into the box, and vacuum sealed it. The other is now my EDC, relegating my G2S to a shower/shitter gun. Really liking this gun, and this is the third model I have owned, the first being the PT92. I don't have any issues with printing when concealed carrying. I have an IWB holster I don't use much anymore, because I recently went to a Versacarry Commander OWB holster. Really liking the combo of this holster and pistol. I will definitely be swapping out the sights for fiber optic/tritium, though I think in the interim, I am going to hit the front sight post with a yellow highlighter.
    I know a lot of people have negative opinions regarding Taurus. Things have changed in recent years. If your range has guns for trial, and has one of these, give it a go. I think you'll be surprised.

    Scootch00 thanks for the fair and honest review. I just purchased one of these because of the upgrades. The G2c is a great little pistol but I couldn’t stand the mushy trigger. It was a deal breaker for me. The G3 solved most of that but I’m gonna order a SS striker guide from Lakeline LLC which is supposed to really improve trigger feel/break. Also Tarus going with a Glock sight cut was a great idea. Tons of sights available for the G3C now. The MecGar 12 rd mags in the Tarus will interchange with the Sig P226 and Canik pistols not to mention the G3 so you have a ton of higher capacity options and I believe MecGar has released a 32 round fun stick for the Tarus G line so round are no problem. It was a good match for my Canik Elite Combat Executive. I was also considering the Sig P365 but for half the price the Tarus won out.. I’m still considering the Sig though , lol. Thanks for a great channel !

    My G3C had a rough start. The etching on the barrel was cut rough, and would drag on the frame. My gunsmith took a stone too the etching, and its been flawless since. I actually shoot this better than the Hellcat, or my Glock. It just fits my hand that well.

    I've put about 700 rounds through my G3c with no problems. I also took advantage of the $30.00 off for the Viridian laser sight and I'm very happy with it. About a decade ago I wouldn't have touched a Taurus semiautomatic (Their revolvers are great! I own the Tracker 44 and the Tracker 357 Magnum) but lately the semiautomatics have been great guns! I'm very happy with the G3c for my back up gun!

    Love my G2C. Just bought the G3C. Unfortunately I haven't been able to shoot it yet because I can't find ammo anywhere! I only have 40 rounds of hollow points and 50 rounds of FMJ. I'm not shooting any of that unless I have to. Hope this stupid ammo shortage is over soon! Paid $260 for G3C. Paid $239 for my G2C so the extra mag with the G3C makes it worth it.
