- Last week Xbox announced the new Xbox Elite Series 2 Core Controller, offering some of the Elite’s core features at a cheaper price thanks to fewer add-ons, and in a shiny new white finish. It’s a good value but there’s some reasons I think you might not want to grab one just yet…

But the question is, has the reliability and durability of this controller been improved from the previous Elite controllers to a point where you don't have to expect to rely on the warranty?
With minor use, the buttons on my Elite 2 began to fail. Really happy I was able to get a full refund with my warranty.
They still haven't changed the joysticks, the same old garbage like on every other controller. If they had hall effect joysticks they would never have stick drift.
Oh you absolutely NEED a warranty lol. Microsoft has one $20 for 3 yrs but they send you a refurbished one back. Best Buy has one for 2 years $55 but you'll get a brand new in box controller when you return it. I went with best buy after Microsoft kept sending me back crappy black ones still broken. But when it's right, I can't game without it
Just as trash received mine yesterday
@@TommyT_ so you bought a $130 controller the day it came out knowing it was going to be a pos? What was the point?
Here's a tip with the back paddles: Make sure the top ones have the fat part of the ends pointing up, not down like in the video. Pointing them up allows better grip on your middle finger and makes it less likely to press both buttons at the same time.
You're welcome!
Lol I do this too
ah thx, that does work quite well, I used to only insert 2 or three of them for better grip
Here’s another tip: you can buy additional paddles for like $10-20 on Amazon, and you can use all large paddle, and have even more control with less likelihood of pressing the wrong button. And they all fall EXACTLY where your fingers sit
Thank you soo much, massively improved the ergonomics for me!
That never occurred to me, cheers.
thank you so much for this video i will wait and then buy it when i have all the options available. ONE QUESTION .... I always play with the pvp cable with a razer ... and I feel the difference a lot. My question is the cable included in the elite 2n for charging only? or also for the lag in pvp gaming? if YES wouldn't it ruin the battery by always leaving it attached? thank you for your time
coming from an elite V1 (the very first one) and I can confirm that the D-pad along with the backpaddles from the old controller work perfectly with the new CORE edition (and the V2), however the sticks from the old elite DO NOT fit the new one. Something to keep in mind! For me it was a good deal since i rarely use the sticks anyway
does the paddles from the old fit in the new?
@@D__Reut yes
That’s very nice of you to post for other people to know
As always, great place to check in to clear up any confusion. Great explanation of the options here. Well done.
This appears to be a good option as a 2nd elite controller for those that already have one. This would allow you to share accessories between them.
Especially if you own an elite from the Xbox one generation
My elite has stick drift, so this might be my best option :/
Exactly
@@roadrash2005 get an eswap pro instead from thrustmaster. Tactile buttons that last 100x longer and if a stick gets stick drift you can just replace it in seconds
@@maperez12 😮😊😊😊
6:35-6:37 i found the design lab and it gives you the option of coloring all your pieces and stick tops. I got a storm grey faceplate, light grey inner bumper, black a, b, x, and y buttons, photon blue faceted d-pad, the menu, share and double-square buttons are a sandy brown color. The back area is a light green color and with the extra components pack it really gives color to the faceplate. The triggers are a light blue color too. On a scale of 1-10, this customization is a solid 9 of the full mark
But what do you think about the price point for the customizable design labs coming out in winter? Thinking about getting the one on Microsoft store but I like geek squad protection as I hear this controller has some issues after a while
I‘m happy with my Aqua Shift Controller. It has also the diamond grip and looks insane.
For me I think that I will buy this controller because I had an elite series two that broke and I still have all of the paddles and things that I can swap on to this controller. Thank you for the review!
Lol maybe that was the Target objective ahaha😅
Hi kevin what kind of roboter was standing on your desk? And i can get it? ty
The most important question for me is: Do the sticks wobble?
I own an elite S2 that's about 2 years old and the sticks wobble so much.
I don't mean stick drift. Just that there is too much room for the sticks basically. I can wobble them around a good amount without feeling resistance or ir registering any of that wobble.
what made me buy this controller was the fact that the paddles and core features were all i really cared about. you can buy the paddles alone for pretty cheap and in different colors too! scuf also has their own paddles for it for $20 that have a more ergonomic shape. i actually got lucky and had a friend with an extra set of paddles so i didn't even need to worry about that.
My only question is dose the new elite core controller have the newer analog sticks that the core controllers have. I hardly use my elite 2s since the core came out as the sticks on the core are just more accurate and sensitive
Can you use the old paddles from an old Xbox elite controller work on the new white one?
Do buttons on these elite series controllers make less noise ? Overall do these controllers make less noise I have the default series s controller and hate how much noise it makes
On the Core, Did they fix the bumper and button issues from the Elite 2?
So potential left stick drift of the Elite 2? I've been through two Elite 1 & 2 controllers that developed the left stick drift and right bumpers getting stuck. So I'm still skeptical. I have since switched to using the PS5 Dualsense controller for PC couch gaming.
Will you guys also be checking out on the new 8bitdo ultimate wireless controller? Either 1 of the 2 new releases, 1 targeted for switch (BAYX) 1 targeted for pc (ABXY)
Also does low battery warning indicator works on pc? does your pc let you know if your controller has low battery or does the controller shows some kind of light to let you know when it needs a charge just like the 8bitdo pro 2 controller with the flashing red light at the top of the controller.
Because i am super annoyed and frustrated with my xbox core controller with xbox charge and play kit as there is no low battery indicator on pc and the xbox game bar is useless. It shows medium all the time and the next moment your controller goes to shit and dies on you MID GAME......
Do the elite v1 parts work with this one? My Elite 1 just broke
I have a question, could I use this controller on my xbox series s or xbox one?
I’ve had the elite series 2 for about 2 years , My LB & RB are bugged out & im wondering if the new controller will be built better…. Idk what to do
BUT are the bumper and trigger switches more quality? Im on about 6-7 Elite S2 in the last 2 yrs because the bumpers become unresponsive
Might buy this since I already have the black elite 2. Good back up option if you already own an elite.
Instead of the whole add on kit for 50$, you could grab the scuf brand back paddles for the elite controller for 20$ their super ergonomic.
Yes
Hi, I got the elite series 2 and when plugged in it works fine but when connected via Bluetooth the left analog stick drifts in game, at least with FIFA 23. Any help?
I just really like the white and I've got all the pieces still from my breaking elite 2(dropped it down a staircase) so the core is a solid idea personally
I’m so happy I watched this video, my elite 2 is slightly broken and wanted to buy a core as a replacement because none of the accessories are broken, so it would be perfect, but now I’m going to wait for design labs, thank you so much!❤️
Then why can’t I change the color of the led on the center button on a core ??? Is my Xbox accessories not updated I’m so confused cause no one knows
A have spares sticks and paddles for the original elite will they work on it . Use that one for spare
Great video this is by far the best review. Clear and concise explanation of what this product actually is. Thanks for all the info, this really helped me make my decision.
Got it for $90 as an early black friday deal so I am happy with it. I also had the back buttons from the old elite controller so I am good there as well.
Do the elite 1 sticks fit in the new Elite 2?
Could you hit the buttons without the paddles if you wanted to?
@@Izzy-hm4zn Sorry to say but to be honest not really
All they need to do is allow moving the thumbstick or do they already in the design studio thing?
Great video but for just the accessories by themselves you can easily just buy them off Amazon not official but does the job
Will the Elite Series 1's back sticks and thumsticks fit on the CORE???
Ok I have an original XB elite... will all my pieces work on this core elite?
Are the a,b,x, and y buttons still mushy as hell like the elite series 2?
Did they fix the bumpers tho?
on my second one (less than a week released) both had A and Y buttons not registering side presses. You'd think they would have fixed that launch issue from 3 years ago.
For $20 you can get Scuf back buttons that fit in the Pro 2 controller... It really just makes more sense... it also fits on the Xbox Elite.
I wonder if you can use the original elite controller paddles and swap able joysticks with this core version? I have a broken original elite controller, so I would have all the swap-able parts.
You can use the paddles and d-pad, but the original elite swappable sticks don’t fit the series 2
Would the Elite 1 paddles not work?
A question here, I just bought a new Core controller after owning an Elite 2, the left and right analog sticks feel tough to maneuver, I already adjusted the sticks’s tension to low. Would playing the controller often loosen the analog sticks or is this a controller issue?
I noticed the same on my new core. Did it change for you over time?
@@Viper01010for me it’s the right stick it feels weird wasn’t like that when I first got it.
I wish this controller had macro functionality for the paddles. Feels redundant to only be able to map them to a single button instead of a button combination of at least two. Especially for the price point, it blows my mind that we don’t have this after so many years of it being on the market.
This is interesting. I had been open to the elite 2 controller. I have the power A pro controller that is basically an elite but wired was what I settled with as when I tried to buy the elite it was not available in store. I may make the move
Make sure you get the warranty if you buy before the quality has been assured. The controller is great... while it lasts.
That’s all I needed to know! Thanks! Same controller just doesn’t come with all the paddles and accessories.
I bought an elite series 2 a couple years ago and returned in 3 different times all within a week due to buttons not working/inconsistent, wireless mic functionality stopped working on the 2nd one, and stick drift on all three.
Are the components (joystick, back buttons) different on the elite vs elite 2? Wondering if I can use the components from the first elite with the new white elite 2
The back paddles are a slightly different size/shape between the elite 1 and 2 (the elite 1's paddles are noticeably thinner), but they do work in either. I don't know about the joysticks for sure since I never swapped mine but I would guess that yes they're compatible.
@@skootz24 no they don’t work considering series 2 has the new tension thumbsticks so yeah they don’t work
Paddles yes (I believe), but sticks no.
You can also see the little buttons that usually go behind the paddles, so if you adjust your grip you could hit those tiny little buttons if you really wanted to.
Abit worrying as I was gonna buy one of these as my Elite 2 has the common issues of RB button not working properly and stick drift. If it's the same internals I'll leave it and go for a Scuff or Thrustmaster.
Could I use this control in an officil competition?
Im good with the regular series x controller, that dpad is the best, and form factor always been great
Microsoft formally said there are upgraded internal components in the core 2. You say there aren't. Time will tell if stick drift has been fixed or the bumper issues etc. I would assume they had attempted to fix stick drift at least as it was so bad they had to change their warranty plan around to a year, acknowledging the issue.
Out of curiosity did you end up getting the core? And if so how was it compared to the other controllers? Just asking bc I’m new to Xbox and looking to get one of the elite scuff style controller and am unsure which would be the best option to get. Thanks I’m advance!
@@RECK317 I did get the core. I've been using it ever since. I got some aftermarket paddles for it but no issues whatsoever. It's been great for these past 9~ months. I've put probably 800~ hours on it.
@@jordanturner7821 thank you so much!! One last question though, where did you end up getting your core controller and paddles from?
@@RECK317 i just got them off amazon.
@@jordanturner7821 sweet thanks again for all the help, it means a lot!
On Xbox’s site regarding this “white” is says, “Re-engineered components”. So are there improved components vs the older “black” elite series 2?
I'd buy the Elite 2 Core...mostly cause it's white...I have the Original Elite 2....but if I wanted custom sticks. You can find them all over Amazon for around $30, in different colors also.
You can buy scuf sticks or back and paddles seperately for use on the elite 2, so you could get a core and for $20 cuz the scuf back paddles, or for $20 but the scuf sticks
I think I’ll finally upgrade from the series 1 I bought on release day, nice that I can just carry over my accessories.
Will the paddles and other parts from my Elite 1 controller work on the Elite Core Controller?
Only the part from elite series 2. No elite series 1 controller accessories work on the series 2.
@@Jarl2392 Thank you: I've go an Elite 1 with a bad stick and I was hoping.
i heard the regular controller is superior than the elite 2 for latency is that true? i want to play on pc . i need a wire controller i order a regular for 39 bucks i feel like the elite 2 core is 100 dollars more for a few features
are there still QA/QC issues?
Have you stripped them down to compare? I'm wondering if it is really "Re-engineered components" as advertised, or simply the exact same elite 2 with qc issues..just in a white shell now too
A guy on another video did a comparison of both black and white elite 2 stripped down. Same exact parts nothing new except the color difference
@@DaScorpionSting I seen it. Yeah. Paying more overall than og elite 2 for a different color & thinner shell, no thanks lol. Looks like i'll be waiting on the next elite.
Hi, Thanks to your video, I've just ordered a custom "Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Complete Bundle" rather than the stock "Core" edition, Thank you.
is it compatible with first gen elite paddles and sticks
Fortunately I was lucky enough to hang on to the accessories for the original elite controller I had since 2015 and the paddles and dpad swap out just fine only the extra thump sticks are not compatible.
They've had the paddles from third party sellers online for awhile. Also, for the standard controller the Lizard Skin grips you can buy for like $20 are more comfortable then the Xbox grips.
The lizard skin grips they are the shit much better than KontrolFreaks so many different color variations I'm serious you have to try them to believe it Love the feel of them
@@caroljordan130 Couldn't agree more.
Will elite 1 paddles work?
Is it broken again? Bought the last version, drift stick on day 3. Still very disappointed and a bit angry at Msft . not confident it will work out this time either
Now you can buy the paddles and thumb sticks separately. And when you use Xbox design labs you can choose both or just 1
I think it's funny that the only thing they included with the controller is the tension key that can easily be replaced by any flathead screw driver
You can also buy scuf accessories made for the elite series 2
I use the very first elite controller and I got all the back paddles and sticks and case so I can use everything from the old elite to the core that's definitely a Plus !
The first elite controller accessories won't work unfortunately, only the second generation ones will
@@ArmanRafique really ? Are the paddles this different?
@@cyrilA. yeah the old ones are slightly bigger
@@ArmanRafique damn, ok thanks made ! But I think I get still the core may I find some paddles on ebay 😉
The paddles and thumbsticks wont ne compatible. Do yourself a favor and get parts off of ebay, for second gen elite
I'm excited for the White one, my old elite series had bad Bluetooth
What was that music at the start?
I was lucky enough to score an elite 2 last Easter for $140 from GameStop. Although they shipped me a used one when it clearly said new, I contacted customer service and was able to get a replacement in a brick and mortar store.
I got mine hardly used on fb marketplace for £70 lol
Sounds like something GameStop would do. Charge full price for a “new” controller and send you a used one they probably gave someone $35 for… I guarantee it wasn’t an accident. They were just hoping you wouldn’t notice.
In canada Toronto its $229.99 core controller same prices as elite 2
Almost a year later just got a plain white elite core for $104 I'm happy with my purchase. Think I will spring for some colored design lab joysticks tho. Maybe an orange and brown color scheme.
Series s/x dpad is great. Hoped that would have been added.
same build quality? so your bumpers will fail and youll get stick drift in 6-12 months of use?
The regular elite got metal bumpers and triggers
both of my elite 2 controllers came faulty on the first day and now im hoping the elite 3 will come soon to fix quality control issues 😭
It's such a good controller but it just needs better reliability and precision.
Mark my words - elite core will be $100, elite 2 will be $140, and regular at $50 all at black Friday. Watch out.
THE ONE PIECE THE ONE PIECE IS REAALL
So high
How does is feel to find out that the last 20+ years of One Piece was just FILLER?!
I literally just saw the ep where white beard mentions that😂
Series s/x dpad is great. Hoped that would have been added.
Fun fact you can get the accessories from ebay or Amazon pretty cheaply from people who don't use em
There are 3rd party back paddles that you can buy on their own if that is all you want to add-on.
I need a similar controller for my switch.
My elite series 2 controllers left bumper is broken it won’t work
Im getting this for Christmas, can’t wait
Received my core controller yesterday and after 2 hours Luv restored. I would say it does feel lighter and maybe they used a lighter more durable plastic compound. The color control makes me luv it 10 times more.
Is it better then the old series 2 controller
@@lizzyontheglizzy3983 honestly No, the original series 2 felt more premium while it lasted. I went through 2 black S2 controllers both with different problems at the end. 1 - unresponsive bumper issue and the 2nd - right thumbstick somehow would become stuck. Yet the feel-quality was there and the 9 months it worked perfectly. Core is good but I did notice they used a different thumbstick because the tension turns in only 2-3 positions, as for the original it was way more precise.
Where did you get the shirt? I want!
Just snagged an elite 2 used for $40. The listing says it’s in working condition with obvious signs of wear and an issue with it powering on the console wirelessly. Hope that’s all that is wrong with it. If not then I will just have to repair it but I hope I won’t have to 🤞
Production quality : kevin kenson> wulff den> beatemups
Content : they all rock.. Love them all, all of them.. Good work.
Gaming motivation
For PC gaming I'm still waiting on the DualSense Edge to see how it stacks up.
Probably gonna be the best pc controller besides the steam controller, mainly cuz the dual sense has that track pad and gyro. With steam controller dB the track pad or the gyro can be mapped to the mouse. It's pretty dope as a PC controller
It'll probably be more reliable overall than the Elite controller by virtue of scuf not being involved.
If you've ever heard of hall effect joysticks, you know that all cheap and expensive controllers have the same crap joysticks that will have stick drifting in a month.
I have the original Elite, the S2 and the Core. I love them all. I still think the OG feels the best in the hand and the tighest overall, but man USBC charging and bluetooth are BIG selling points.
Do the original elite paddles fit on the core?
@@arron6867 I didn't do any rigorous testing but they snap in there just fine and seem to trigger the button functions
@@THEUrinalCake thank you. I will give it a shot
@@THEUrinalCakei! I’m planning on getting one of the new Xbox’s soon (switching over from my ps4) and was looking to get one of the Xbox versions of a scuff controller. Since you have used all the versions of them are there any you recommend to get or stay away from? I’ve heard pretty bad reviews on all of them about buttons not working when they’re brand new or stuck drift easily occurring and am unsure which would be the safest option to get. Thanks in advance!
@@RECK317 Hmm that's a tough one. If I had to choose one based on controller feel and reliability alone my series 1 still has the others beat. To my recollection I've never had a problem of any sort with it and all the sticks and buttons are still super tight and smooth. That being said I haven't used that controller nearly as much as the S2 or S2 core which are my daily drivers due to the convenience of bluetooth and USB-C charging. My original S2 is starting to have the issue with RB not registering occasionally and my S2 Core was having a problem where it would appear to charge to full and then die on me spontaneously. I thought I RMA'd it for that but can't find any record of it anywhere. I did switch over to charging it with the pogo pin dock from my other S2 and it seems to be just fine since then. These controllers are well known for having a lot of issues so it's probably a gamble in any case. I don't know a whole lot about SCUF and their reliability but here is a page of customer complaints on BBB that might shed some light on things. www.bbb.org/us/ga/duluth/profile/video-game-supplies/scuf-gaming-international-llc-0443-27437240/complaints It seems like a big dice roll in any case. Personally I'd probably go with whichever one you can get a good deal on and has the features you want and hope you can get your money's worth before something fails. Just life in end stage capitalism I guess. Good luck boss.
i wish xbox would actually come out and say that they fixed the previous problems like the rb and lb button
Omg I didn't realise you could tighten the Series 2 anologs lol
Has anyone noticed you can change the color of the xbox button on the elite controllers now.
So this control is made for a small group a people to me. The hard-core gamers that need to replace there control but don't need the full kit. Cheaper price and still have all the accessories. I for one will be getting it since I've had more then two years know the controller I have now and need to replace it now (buttons not working correctly and stock drift)
should of added hall effect sensors to the sticks
I like the elite controller but what is that to your left? Looks like a old futuristic TV
