  • Things I Would Change in Minecraft. Minecraft has changed a lot from its inception, but some things have been left behind in my opinion. In this video i share my opinions on the things I'd love to see changed in an overall "quality of life" update.
    Disclaimer: This is not a complaint video at all, I love minecraft and appreciate what every update brings - However as a veteran player who minecrafts everyday, I want to share some ideas I'd love to see in the game. Some of them may surprise you.
    Personal thanks to Scar, Tango and other Hermits for their input on this video

    Those of you suggesting water for building under: it is a method that I did not include in the video, it's not ideal because you can't remain stationary, you drown but most importantly it breaks all grass, torches and redstone beneath you, which there usually is one. Very good point there are other methods - however none of them are a perfect fix, even bonemealing warped roots, they are under the block.

    i think giving villagers the ability to give you quests to complete (ex: fix broken houses, create barrier against mobs) would be a great way to refresh the game, they could be biome specific (ex: snow biomes would require heating, deserts demand water sources, ect) and each quest would serve to elevate the village's level (incorporating a ranking system for the quality of life in villages would be great) but make it so it can be partially automated so it dosen't feel too manual

    I think it would be cool if beacons would have certain special-abilities, depending on what is the base made out of.
    For example:
    - A full emerald beacon could give villagers a permanent discount.
    - A full gold beacon could make piglings peaceful, even when not wearing gold armor
    - A full iron beacon could make iron golems stronger and more durable
    - A full diamond beacon would give permanent usage-speed of all diamond/netherite tools (additional to haste 2 maybe)
    - A full netherite beacon would give all of the above as well as the 'Weird flex, but ok'-advancement.
    Maybe even add more beacon-bases
    - A full lapis-beacon makes enchantments a little bit more powerful

I defend my villagers against mobs at night, I rebuilt their houses so they don't have to leave their house to access their jobs. And when I need more villagers I just build another house, place a bed down and let them do the rest, my farmers provide enough food for everyone. I find it's more engaging than just making a bunker and stuffing the villagers in en-masse, it feels like they actually depend on me for their survival.

    About the inventory. All the things mentioned (more slots, bigger stacks, organize and quick stack buttons) are things that terraria has already. But what also minecraft could benefit from is accesry slots. Slots that you can use to put items in that give you some benefit. They can also be unlocked as you progress. In your accesory slots you could put:
    -an elytra so that it doesnt share its slot with the chestplate
    -a backpack that gives you additional inv slots (similarly to don't starve game)
    -a compas which wuld create a GUI that points you north/spawn/base
    -a spyglass to finally make it worth using (you could activate it with a button similar how to optifine works)
    -a map so you can have a minimap on screen
    -a totem of undying
    -a clock
    -all sorts of craftable or obtainable technical/magical accesories that could show you things like redstone power signals, light levels, slime chunks, coordinates and so much more things that we have to check through external sites or mods or the F3 screen

    "There is a lot to be learned from the mods that people keep picking up time and time again."
    Exactly. A large portion of the most downloaded mods on Curseforge just make inventory management and ease of access better.
    For example JEI (170m downloads), Mouse & Inventory Tweaks (200m+ downloads combined), Iron Chests & Storage Drawers - item management mods (200m+ downloads combined), & AppleSkin - displays hunger and saturation value of all food items and your current saturation level on your HUD (100m+ downloads).

    2:55 I have craved for the longest time the desire for a mechanic that makes raids a constant thing you need to defend against. It would happen only once you begin to grow a villages wealth and population. The increased level of villages gives you better trade deals, and more types of villagers, but corresponds with harder and harder raids. The raids could trigger upon leveling up a village. Once a final level is reached, raids return to just being when you kill the pillager party banner holder. Overall, villages are the key to minecraft feeling lived in. If villager AI could be mastered and constantly engaging, it would combat the emptiness and loneliness of single player minecraft worlds. Give something beyond building for building's sake.

  • @powdermelonkeg
    @powdermelonkeg Před 2 lety +1015

    My suggestion for the bats:
    If you want to go for the "they should drop an item" side of things, they could drop bat wings. Then you can craft four of those into a phantom membrane in the same way you can craft four rabbit hides into a piece of leather, and use those bat wings to repair your elytra. Bonus points, a bat wing in a brewing stand could make a potion of feather falling (since phantom membranes make slow falling).
    If you want to go full interaction mode like Grian suggested, you can use it with the sculk that was just added! Sculk sensors take and give off sounds, so what if making a sound near one (that wasn't in range of a shrieker) sent a signal to any bats in range, and the bat would chirp back and come investigate you? Then if you feed it something-maybe a melon slice for fruit bats, since melons go virtually unused, or glowberries since those are local fruit-they can sit on your shoulder, and squeak at you if something nearby makes a noise.
    For non-player interactions, bats could hunt down silverfish and endermites in the same way wolves hunt sheep and axolotls hunt down fish, since a lot of bats eat insects. This could be a reason to bring them into Strongholds, even; imagine taming a dozen bats or so, and unleashing the swarm upon the silverfish spawner!
    Another interaction, maybe they land and stop moving in high light levels, or move very slowly, like how the Striders slow and shiver when out of lava. They're nocturnal, they should act like it!
    Those are just a few fun things I thought of off the top of my head.

    I think Terraria deals with villagers preety well. In it, you have to make housings for npcs to move then you can sell or buy items. You have to keep in mind their preferred biomes, their relationship, not making everything cramp etc. So that you have the best deals. You also have to move them into certain biomes to get certain items. Alongside that, certain things can only be unlocked after completing certain goals like killing bosses.
    So if mojang wants to fix villages, they can make so that the player has to make specific shops and structures around villagers for them to work, make so that you should not keep them cramped and you can't just cure them into Oblivion. Making certain trades biome specific can also be good.
    The problem with 1.20.2 rework is that no matter how far you are into the game, you can never get max level enchants from the villagers, which is preety annoying. They can do that if you do certain things, like completing certain things like how did we get here, they start to sell max level enchants. This update also doesn't fix any other issue.

    Here are some enchantments I would like to see in the game.
    -An idea I've had for a while is another enchantment called reach, which lets you mine blocks farther away from you. It could be applied on a pickaxe, axe, shovel, and hoe. On an axe it would be incredibly useful when mining taller trees like dark oaks and great oaks.
    -Another one could be versatility, and you could use it on a pickaxe to dig dirt faster (not quite as fast as an efficiency V netherite shovel with/without haste II or even an efficiency I diamond shovel so it doesn't get rid of the need for a shovel), or you could apply it on a hoe to chop wood or something.
    -The last tool enchantment idea I had would be something called "cook" or "burning" or something, and it would give you items in their smelted form. Cobble would be stone, sand would be glass, and if you have silk touch while mining stone it would be smoothe stone. To nerf it a little it would use extra durability, and some limitations would be making it so it can't make charcoal out of wood or something.
    -For an armor enchantment, I would add something like weight, which makes you take less knockback, and maybe it goes up to III or something in which you barely take anything at all.
    -Another armor enchantment could be bounciness, so projectiles bounce off you a couple blocks. This would not only be good for dealing with skeletons and pillagers but could also bounce off harmful potions/potions not thrown by yourself, which would be amazing for witches and potion pvp.
    Next would be an enchantment for the helmet which goes up to III or IV and reduces damage taken when crashing into a wall or something with an elytra.
    -Finally, For the elytra itself, perhaps an enchantment that lets it glide further after the rocket is used.

    another issue to do with inventory is that back in the beginning, all you needed was a sword, pickaxe, torches and food at hand to do most things you need while exploring, and now you need so much more: buckets, bows, elytra/chest plate (depending on what you’re wearing), gold armour for nether, potions, shield, totem, fireworks. and most of those things you could use at any moment, which fills up your hotbar with necessities.
    i recently read a comment advocating for a second hotbar, that can be swapped at the touch of a button, it would only increase the inventory space by 25%, but allow people to have one hotbar for travelling, and another for combat or building or whatever. it would also easily work alongside a larger inventory if need be.

      They could have a 50% inflation if their overall living space is under 6x6 blocks;
      They could have a 20% discount if they live in the same room as another villager, but a 50% inflation if they live in a crowded place(something like 12+ villagers in a living space smaller than 30x30);
      They could have a 20% discount if the blocks they live in allow for acceptable living conditions(stuff like quartz, wood or concrete instead of dirt, stone or netherack, although maybe these blocks could be negated if there is something like a carpet on top);
      They could have a 20% discount if they can see the sky;

    I'm in the inventory section now, and if it wasn't mentioned,, I would like a separate area just for ammunition just like in Terraria. Also, in regards to backpacks, I have wanted them for so long. I have always hated that we can only get shulkers when we beat the game. One of the most frustrating feelings in the world is thinking about how much it would have made a difference in our lives to be able to have a backpack. And if they are worried about it not being balanced enough, they can make it so you can only use one at a time, and have it replace armor like an elytra does, and it could double the inventory size.
    Also, I'd like it if the stuff in our shulkers in our inventory could auto pick up things we are getting. Like, if we are strip mining and we have some for shunting off cobble and stuff into other shulkers, that would be awesome.
    How about an idea for something in our inventory that we can put one item into and it tells the game to throw away that one item whenever you pick it up automatically? Like an inventory trash can.
    I dunno. I just think about this a lot.

    • @propheinx2250

      They should just add a back slot to equipment and add some extra items to fight for the slot. Obviously elytra would still be a top contender for the slot, but a backpack and a quiver could be decent choices depending on circumstances.
      Backpack is obvious, it turns your personal inventory space to the equivalent of a double chest, instead of just a single chest worth of space.
      A quiver could both offer a free spot for a stack of arrows, and make you draw a bow a little faster.
      Another option could be a redstone pack that would cause you to radiate light while in dark places.
      Or even a parachute for a get of jail free card when you accidentally fell off a cliff not paying attention to your surroundings.
      Imagine a creeper cloak that would make creepers completely ignore you if you crouch while wearing it.
      Back equipment should be its own slot, and there's many things that could even challenge the elytra for the slot.

    The glass breaking actually does seem intentional. It seems that it's to prevent you from losing the blocks. Glass needs silk touch to pick it up again and if you confuse your picks, with the current speed, you at most will lose one block before you notice that you don't have the right one. If it could be insta-mined, you would lose a lot more before noticing. And glass is a PITA to get.

    Grian, the glass thing exists because glass can only be gathered with Silk Touch, so if a player accidentally breaks their windows or something, its gone and very annoying to replace. Hence its slow to break so players don't accidentally click and destroy a ton of their glass blocks accidentally. Glass in the world is almost always placed by the player, and it is very rare you want to mine it like you mined that stone.
    I don't actually like your idea of adding slots to either side of the inventory. Many mods and things use the fact that your hotbar is the same size as your inventory, and allow you to quickly cycle your inventory into your hotbar. This breaks that fuctionality. Personally, I think this can be solved by a few things mods have done. ME Systems are undeniably not Minecrafty, however, Backpacks (ever since they added shulkers) are fine, and I think a Small Pack (18 slots, 8 leather surrounding an Iron Ingot), Medium Pack (27 slots, 8 leather surrounding a diamond/Emerald), Large Pack (54 slots, 8 Leather Surrounding a Netherite Ingot), Void Pocket (9 Slots, 8 Netherite Ingots surrounding a Nether Star, HOWEVER, a void pocket is different from the other packs. While it only has 9 slots despite being the most expensive to craft by far, it has a unique property, Each of these 9 slots can contain an unlimited number of any stackable item. So you can store 1000000 cobblestone using only one of its inventory spaces.) There will also be one more Pack, Traveler's Pack (Only obtainable via Traveling Merchant rarely, requiring a Large Pack as a trade, this pack can store 81 slots, making it as large as 3 chests.)
    In addition to the packs, you add enchanting effects for the packs. "Quivering" will allow you to use Ammo directly out of the pack. "Looting" will cause all blocks picked up to automatically go into the pack if a stack of that item already exists (IE, Stacks in the bag will automatically fill before items go into your inventory). I think these two enchants on a Pack would cover the inventory management issues. Especially with a Looting Void Pocket to hold the tremendous amount of stone you happen to dig up, and a Quivering Pack acting like a Quiver so your inventory can be less messy with ammo.

    Glass being a slower to break block is actually a very smart design decision despite it being counter to real world logic. Specifically because Glass is an item that can only really exist in minecraft by the player's own hand, meaning its placement is often very purposeful. If it could break too easily then it would be too easy to accidentally break your own builds, or for people to grief *your* glass builds. But by making it consistently slow to break, they make the act of breaking glass just as purposeful as placing it, giving you time to catch yourself before you screw up with a piece of your build, or catch someone else trying to grief by hand.

    1. Village defense; I think something similar to lego fortnite villages would be cool, maybe a block like the town square where you can feed resources into / upgrade the village
    2. Mining glass faster; They should be as fast as sand with a iron shovel
    3. Activating jukeboxes remotely with redstone: I'd also love if they emitted a redstone signal when the disk finishes / starts

    14. Beacons give you better power depending on material: HELL YEAH
    15. Deepslate instamined by beacons: It should be only for the better beacons that give you like Haste IV and stuff

    here's an inventory management idea.
    an exclusive enchantment for the chestplate, called strengthness. this enchantment could increase your maxium stack size in your inventory, level 1 increases it to 128, level 2 increases it to 256. and level 3 is the maxium. and doesn't change the maxium stack. but instead allows unstackable items like potions and bowls to be stackable to 16.
    (details) to prevent bugs, you cannot unequip a chestplate with the enchantment if your inventory has stacks higher than 64.
    and stacks higher than 64 can only fit in ender chests.
    if you die with the enchantment and your ender chest has a stack higher than 64. you will spawn with the extra items in your inventory.

    I wish they would have a bonding feature with horses similar to RDR2. The more you ride, the faster it becomes, the more it jumps, the higher it can jump in the future, the more you heal and nurture it, the more health it gains. This way any horse could become a max stat horse with enough time. Id even like to see adverse effects if your hose was neglected after extended time as well.

      might sound a bit of a stretch but I believe mojang and all companies have a lot to learn with RDR2 horses. no one can do better horse mechanics than rockstar but it's worth writing down some notes. minecraft horses could have a little more weight, when you ride them it's like you're sliding on ice. they could walk, trot and gallop like in RDR2. instead of wandering away from you they could follow your orders and the higher the bonding the horse is more obedient. you could tie things and mobs to the horseback or just have someone ride with you. riding with friends in RDO is whole lotta fun

    Its funny this video just popped up on my feed, we were just talking in my own server regarding backpacks and how it should be an exclusive slot to have a backpack on your person as an social slot of sorts like armor, and that backpack is either crafted or obtained in some way but can add inventory extra and is specifically in your inventory. Upgrades could be found throughout the world as well to increase it's size which could help encourage the exploration part, perhaps the backpack is obtained by saving the villagers and additional pockets can be uniquely added to it in order to increase it by 1-3 slots

      I'm torn on whether it should be available in other forms.
      I feel like if it were to be added, it would massively incentivise exploration, but more in a "I spent three hours with chunkbase looting every temple within 2000 blocks" way than a "oooh, I found a fun prize!" way.
      Then again, if it's a tradable, it'll be farmed.
      Maybe much like Soul Speed, Piglin trading? That way there's an adventure aspect to getting it, since the Nether is still at least a little danergous (not fixing that typo, it makes me laugh) and quite unpredictable, but not a massive hassle to get if you want to get it in bulk.
      It's still random, but you can increase output. You'll get ten stacks of blackstone, but you will, eventually, get Deep pockets. If you can only find it in chests, it'll end up becoming frustrating to replace. If in a 1000m2 area, there's one book with Deep Pockets on average, imagine running a server with any number of people. Conversely, if it's more common, on single player it will feel almost too common. It gives another valuable purchase for gold, and gold is an underutilised part of the tech tree in Minecraft imo.

    One extremely simple thing that can change everything about villagers is just to add a hunger system to them. If the farmers don't constantly give crops to the rest of the village, which only happens when they all gather near the bell, all the villagers could die. With this, players would be forced to make enough farmland to sustain a bigger village and let the villagers free to get the food in an artificial village, if not the player would need to supply them manually, but this would be a lot of avoidable work.
