Future to me. Is the definition of true popping in all aspects of the word. I've met and chilled with Castro and have respect for him as a dancer. Just when it comes to a battle in my honest opinion. There is a very very small amount of dancers that I've met and had the privilege of getting down with that can match the creativity, passion and cleanliness in every get down that Future gives out. Future is the type of guy where you might be able to beat him in a competition with two 45 second rounds because you stepped it up, but he's the type of dancer who is your worst nightmare in a call out battle with no time limit. So many styles upon styles that you can clearly see that Future was not struggling to come up with new material and new feels. I don't think a lot of poppers would have done as well as Castro did. Definitely liked the way they handled the beef. A little shit talking here and there but it was more shut up and dance rather than a corny step up 28 movie.
Was dope to have this settled at our event, 4 Hours of Funk. Our night has been going on for 6 years in Baltimore and we're happy to support the dance community.
David Castro from what I've seen in his videos doesn't have much foundation and plays with his arms most of the time. Not much use of levels, torso, styles.... He can dance though. He needs at least a decade to come close to touching Future. A decade to actually build some layers in his dance and 'musicality'. He kind of got lazy here too. It seemed as if he took the safe route, easier getting smoked whilst coming off as not trying than giving it your all and getting smoked. I may be mistaken.
David Castro got taken to school. He has a more limited vocabulary, but has good musicality for what he has mastered. Future is just neck and shoulders above in vocabulary and expression. #RESPECT to both dancers. Future won this one hands down. Hopefully this exchange has started fresh relationship between the dancers and there will be more cooperation and understanding!
You know who won this battle? The spectators and poppin community. Ryan brought it hard with flavor, covered ground. and levels. Castro brought soul and hardness. Both dancers went the distance and are keeping the culture relevant.
Damn it Future, I simply want to call both Rashaad and you out just to go to that same place, dance our hearts out, and *have a great time*!! :D That looks hella fun!
From 4:16 - 4:47 go change the playback speed to slow it down and see what Castro is doing that is some advanced popping & waving right there so many complex angles.
As someone who values musicality and feeling over vocabs or more concepts, I think Castro took this for most of the rounds by a large margin. Yeah, Future did a variety of things but it just doesn't feel as connected with the music as Castro's dance. I am now gonna watch more of Castro. I feel a connection with his dance style a lot.
9:22- "you're tired", 9:25- Future jumps to the ground and continues to flaunt his popping prowess, 9:27- Castro's look of horror and despair.......all amazing to behold. Hats off to the lads for providing us with 24 mins of pure passion! Also, massive respect to the DJ. Seamless mix of disco and funk!
I see now what they mean by vocabulary. Future literally got better every round. Nowadays someone’s 1st or sometimes their 2nd is best and then it’s ride the beat or do tricks to win over the judges or crowd
