Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thiagarajan Argues Why States Shouldn't Be Forced To Cut Down Fuel Taxes

- A day after the Centre reduced excise duty on fuel, several state governments reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel. On Saturday, the Centre had cut excise duty on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre to give relief to consumers battered by high fuel prices that have also pushed inflation to a multi-year high.
The excise duty cut would translate into a reduction of Rs 9.5 a litre on petrol and Rs 7 a litre on diesel after taking into account its impact on other levies.
After the Central government’s decision to cut excise duty, several state governments slashed VAT on petrol and diesel.
In an exclusive interview with India Today's Rajdeep Sardesai on News Today, Tamil Nadu's Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan talks about the reduction of VAT on petrol and diesel. Watch here:

@@sancool84 Running a state is not like running a bank. Every developed economy has debt. It is the difference between GDP and Expenditure that matters.
TN's fiscal deficit(diff btw spending and receiving) for first half of 2022 is 3%, which is lower than projected value 5%. Lower fiscal deficit is a direct indicator of developing economy.

Second Indian economy is a central economy with GST, so all parameters have an influence of 80% from Center. Then why inflation is high and low in some states. One, neither high inflation is bad or low inflation good. All numbers are subject to a context, or else Fed won't allow big inflation in US now.
For your basic knowledge then why inflation is high in some states? Tamilnadu has a different demographics, if you want to compare with Gujarat, Haryana etc read first. The fuel consumption of private cars in Tamilnadu is way less as 60% people travel by bus. Good or bad is another debate. Second the data is he is tom toming is for March and April 2022. He can not talk his mother language Tamil properly.
He has to debate with Mr.Annamalai BJP chief TN with all his facts (???) and figures. I am 100% sure he will fail.
Mr.Ptr has not talked about his own party's election promises to the people of TN.
DMK promised to reduce 5 rupees on petrol, 4 rupees on Diesel and 200 rupees on cylinder.
What they have reduced is only 3 rupee on petrol nothing on diesel and gas.
We have seen dmk's big big election promises from 1967 onwards.
First first they came to power by promising 3 padi ( 'padi' means about 1.5 kg) rice per rupee. But they never fulfilled.
Later they promised 2 acres of free land for poor , but never fulfilled.
This time there are many many promises unlikely to be fulfilled.

I believe he is a excellent and appropriate finance Minister for Tamil Nadu and he is even qualifies for Finance Minister of India no doubt.
