How to teach your Parrot how to Step Up (step by step, on how to)

  • Here a video to teach your bird to step up. Many of you have asked how I taught Ricco to step up, so I have put a video together that will hopefully work for you.
    Teaching your parrot to step up should be one of the first things you do.
    It will come in handy for many things like simply picking up your bird and also create a better bond between you and your bird.
    Once your bird has learned how to step up, you will now be able to teach your bird many things like tricks and further training.
    Keep in mind that all birds pick up things at a different pace, so always be patient with your bird and never force your bird to do anything it does not want to.
    This will only make your bird fearful of you and will brake that trust and bond you have with your bird.
    You always want to make any training sessions as fun as possible, that way your bird will want to do more.
    Ricco from a baby until now, watch here❤️

    I have an alexandrine parrot whom i brought when she was a baby... She was only comfortable with me and would eat from me only and she used to step up whenever i asked her... But once she fell sick and i had to send her to my friend for a few days but after returning she became very agitated and more aggressive... She stopped eating from me or anyone else and forgot all the tricks and bit everyone.... It went on for a year and a half and now I'm starting to improve our relationship again.. She now allows me to touch her(not all the time) she has learnt a new trick that if i say "left foot up" She raises her left foot upto her head and I'm working on the right foot😅... She even goes on her perch on command... But she has totally forgot the step up so it's difficult but I'm sure I'll eventually succeed and we will get along better than ever

      Is your bird afraid of you or hands? Either way use treats to build a bond and trust with your bird first. If it’s your hands your bird is afraid of you can use a stick for your bird to step up on.

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn
      @Riccothegreenpiedirn  Před rokem

      You need to pay attention to his body language. If he is biting you he may be scared or doesn’t like something you are doing. Birds need time to trust, it took me 1 year for Ricco to fully trust me. Use his favourite treats or food to build trust with him.

    • @Riccothegreenpiedirn
      @Riccothegreenpiedirn  Před 2 měsíci +1

      That’s a good start as it means your bird is not afraid of your hand. Try placing the treat in your other hand so he needs to step up to reach the treat, hope that makes sense.
