    Very nice video! Thank you. Those people that that leave critical comments, lead small lives and are attempting to elevate themselves by bringing others down. It is clear you speak at least two languages fluently. I"ll bet you they don"t.

      Well said. CZcams comments have turned into a competition of who can leave the funniest comment. The majority of comments are outright dumb and don't add any value to the topic. This is a good video on the basics of lawn care.

    I don't bother raking up leaves. Instead, I just run over them with my mower once or twice to shred them up and let them filter between the grass blades on their own. Last autumn I decided my soil's organic content wasn't high enough (the previous owners of my home routinely scalped the lawn and threw out the clippings which left me with exhausted soil and sick looking turf) so I actually took some of my neighbor's leaves off their hands and spread them on my lawn. I wound up incorporating a layer of leaves about 10cm thick into my turf, and by spring this year not a single visible trace of shredded leaf remains. My lawn has never looked more lush.

    • @EuroYardService
      @EuroYardService  Před 3 lety

      This is definitely a way to go as long as you make sure the leaves are shredded up as much as possible so they don't choke out the lawn.

    After many experiments, I found the best way to make grass seeds grow in small areas:
    1) remove dead grass
    2) apply about 2 inches of top soil
    3) spread grass seeds liberally on top of the topsoil
    4) apply another 1 inch of topsoil
    5) Tap the area down gently with a leaf rake
    6) cover the area with a screen (window or door type)
    7) make sure the screen suspends about 2 inches above the topsoil to keep the birds away. You can do this by spiking small thin wood branches, about 5 inches long, at the 4 corners of the screen, and in the middle on all 4 sides. The birds will NOT fit UNDER the screen, and cannot reach the seeds from above. It works! All the seeds grew beautifully!
    8) water every day for 4-5 days. The idea is not to let the topsoil get dry.

    Best thing I ever did for my lawn was to raise the blade on my mower. I never water my lawn. This forces the roots to go deeper in search for water, which makes the lawn healthier.

    • @aguyandhiscomputer

    • @EuroYardService

      I'd suggest you do a scientific soil test through a lab. They can tell you what you need to add. Compost composition can change so it's good to get an analysis from your supplier.

The first part of the year all i have is weeds and very little grass. I am afraid of killing it because there will be nothing there but dirt.
