This is the best example to show how translation consists not only of the original language but of the culture as well. If we say in Spanish the "Muffin man", it won't make sense for us. However, Mambrú is a known character from an old song. And here the important thing is the rhyme.

In Brazilian Portuguese it is Soldado, the "Soldado de Cabeça de Papel", or Paper Head Soldier.
      The dialogue is more like:
-- Do you know... the Soldier?
      -- The Soldier?
      -- Yeah, the Soldier.
-- Yes, I know that soldier... the one with the paper head?
-- Well... she got married to that soldier.

In Bulgarian, the joke goes something along the lines of:
GM: Do you know where the hole of the doughnut is?
    LF: The hole?
    GM: Yeah, the hole..
LF: Yeah, I know where the hole is.. It's always in the middle, right?
GM: Well.. that's where they're hiding; In the hole..
    LF: In the hole??
GM: OF COURSE IN THE HOLE!
LF: They're hiding in the doughnut hole..
Edit: In Bulgarian, the doughnut hole is a metaphore meaning nothing, zero, empty, for obvious reasons.
