  • Learn the anchor release with this breakdown from Train 2.0 Hockey directer of coaching Kevin McKinnon. He breaks down Cale Makar's release on the beautiful goal from the 2024 playoffs. We explore advanced techniques for lateral movement and shooting in hockey.
A key secret is adopting a wide double shoulder width stance, referred to as the "corkscrew," which enhances maneuverability. As Makar crosses the blue line, he drags his inside edge, subtly changing his angle to create a better shooting lane while remaining deceptive.
By using an "anchor" to readjust his hips, Makar can quickly release powerful shots with minimal effort. These techniques are part of the slingshot shooting system, essential for modern NHL skating. To learn more, viewers are invited to join a free five-part training on the downhill skating system, which is foundational to all hockey mechanics.

Is being able to barely see the puck when replaying a video of a persons shot an indicator of an nhl shot.
