It should turn off once you remove the negative cable, but that doesn't determine if your alternator is bad, anything with an ECM and electric pump, especially gm vehicles will shut off once battery cable is removed, because you are turning off the fuel. You should have done a load test on it and it would have been more accurate to find your problem

Looks like a 105 amp
Yukon Denali takes 160 amp
