This is the hard hitting journalism I've been searching for.
The place was found by a buddy of mine,, an Ontario local named Muckus( his nickname) in the the early 70s i believe. He was at the forefront of the skate revolution back then. Good times then, L pool, bates bowl and so many more.
That’s what I heard molis
I remember when Mike Weed skated there in the Mid 70’s!!! That place is SO Bitchin!👍
Ok boomer...
The L pool off of Grove Arrow road?
@@edwardsimpson6344 yeah, it was between San bernadino rd and Arrow.
I first went there in '93. Place is not as easy to skate as these guys make it look. What the didn't show here is that close to the full pipe is the huge wash that Milton bombed in one of his recent parts. That wash is HUGE. Takes 10 min to walk up it and you end up doing switchbacks because it's so steep. My friend and I brought a bowling ball up one time and rolled it down from the very top. That thing must have been going 150 mph or faster when it got to the bottom. That's about the moment we realized if someone else came along it could be real bad news for all of us. Thankfully nobody was around, but when that bowling ball hit some boulders at the bottom it shot up about 100 feet up in the air and then hit the wall of the wash and came down and broke in half. We got it all on video. Good times. Baldy uber alles.
is the video posted anywhere haha?
That's what I was going to ask
Oh shit, please get us that video man!
Didnt know i needed this story so much rn, read it and im just like🤘😅🙏
I hear you I couldn't even jump across the Gap but you can always just ride down the big chute bring a broom and a duster like they did that place is fun no matter what but be careful you never know what kind of crazy fuckers you encounter down in there
Awesome! This was a legendary spot us east coaster kids always dreamed of...thanks to mags from the '70's (yeah, I'm old 55, but I'm still skating Landsdowne). Once it's in you, it never goes away!
Swith ollie was tight. Loved seeing the selflessness with the fence. Everybody love everybody
Independent FOREVER 🔥🙌🙌🛹
Jhancarlos JhanGnarlos !
That video was sick thanks 🙏🏼
Love from Colombia 🇨🇴
Such a spot...Now I realize that the tunnel and the jump of death are in the same place.Insane video and dope music 👍🔥
2:24 similar to this story. 1990 my friend and some of his friend when to skateboard this backyard pool in 115 degree weather in Mesa, Arizona. He told me that he found a guy all bloated laying in the middle of the empty pool. He died for a few days and the sun baked him. My friend called the police and they came to take him away.
What's the point of the story. Don't go skateboarding by yourself at abandon places. But sometimes we do some stupid stuff and it can cause our lives.
@@bobanmilisavljevic7857 Thank you. I hope that this story will save some skateboarders and let them know to be aware and stay safe.. Thank you.
I grew up 5 miles away from baldy pipe, we would go skate there every once in a while awesome to see that people still shredding the pipe 🤙
Hey where did you live?, I lived at 25th and Euclid 73-77
@@corsair12760 I lived by Towne avenue and Foothill blvd... How old are you? I'm 29 and I skated from 2007-2015
@@whatintheworld7624 haha I’m 63, I live in western Colorado now still have my old skateboard but there’s nowhere to skate here so I do more snow skiing and 4x4
@@corsair12760 yeah I live in northern Minnesota and I still have my board but like your situation there's no where to skate haha. Did you ever skate the original pipeline park back in the day?
@@whatintheworld7624 no never at “upland pipeline park” I didn’t want to wear pads and a helmet lol
We would skate the tube and bomb Euclid Ave up at 25th and we had an abandoned pool in San Antonio heights right below Van Ness Water gardens to skate in
I used to skate it all the time, used to live in upland down the mountain and man you meet some interesting people and the experience lasts a lifetime. must go spot, at least once in your life.
all those moves on the full pipe were amazing and so dope! but that switch ollie that nasty gap was bonkers
I have fond memories of skating here in the 90s, shooting the wash was so much fun!
Used to find totally random stuff like this full-pipe or other various types of drainage systems while driving across the country for years. Often times would stop to take a break and pull out the ol board for a quick session. Those were good times and lasting memories I'll never forget. I'm now 42 and building up my 1st complete since last skating in my mid to late 20's.
Hell yeah.
From my recollection a guy named “ Muckus” found that back around ‘73 or so & after the story leaked out I can remember seeing guys like Mike Weed & Waldo Autry shredding it as early as late ‘74 -early ‘75 . Once those pics hit Skateboarder magazine it became famous.
Just so cool to see a session at Baldy of a new generation! Kickflip indy! The Ollie gap tricks were sick too. Great filming!
Jhank is wild!
Independent of Skateboarding adventure 🛹 🔥💥🐐🤙
Kieran Woolley killing it
I lived on Baldy when a youngster. Have been to the pipe many times. so cool to see current day vids of it.
That switch Ollie over the pit!!!!! Holy f***
My dad Mukus was the first to find this and skate it with his buddy. Like in 1970. My dad invented the pool tool skateboard(first board designed for pools). Glad peolle still know the truth. Thank you for that.
Dude, is your Dad Muck who lived in Ontario in the 70's? He was older but was cool with the young guns coming up. The guy I'm thinking of lived over around Campus and 6th and had a Yamaha XT 500. He liked to do wheelies. I want to say he worked at a skate shop ran out of the back of a record store in old town Upland.
I also had a Pool Tool deck. I remember Tay Hunt and his dad (I think his Dad was a cabinet maker) were cutting those decks and they were really popular in our area. The guy I'm thinking of was friends with my friend's older brothers which is how we came to know him. My friend has a 10-foot quarter pipe we used to roll out of the backyard and onto the sidewalk on 6th and Monterey and skate all day.
Muck would drop by skate a while and then wheelie off. Our parents thought he was a bad influence; we thought he was bad-ass. Back in those days it seemed like all we did was skate, surf, and ride dirt bikes - standard hooligan stuff. I remember skating the wave (a section of wash off 6th street), the Bait Bowl, the L pool (Old Upland Swim Club), the skull bowl, and later Pipeline skate park. So Cal was a great place to grow up in the 70s.
I drove there! The hike, the long skate then the big gap to get over.salba just shows up and pretty much blew minds.
I've never thought about your brand in 30 years. Independent was my go to. Respect.
🤣My dude gets in with his gear and his homies and has no idea where he's going. I LOVE SKATERBOARDING🤣!Salba's 9CLUB Is awesome! Right up there with Lance and Mike and Tony and Bob B....
Rhino with the gap jump!!! Legend
Thought they were gonna push the shopping cart into the bushes just like the ol’ CKY days! ;)
96 quite bitter beings riff just started playing in my head
So good to see the local So-Cal gov't didn't shut it down -- tar, jackhammered grooves -- so it's sill alive for 45+ years of vert.
Skating and ripping Historical Spot , Great Video !
Skated here in the early 90's. We entered through a crawl space that led into the pit and then there was a rope up the slant. That was some fun times!
What people don’t realize about Mt. Baldy pipe before they go there for the first time is because it’s a water drainage system, the pipe runs at a downward angle. You pick up so much speed so damn quickly bc of that downhill slant. Before you know it you’re at the mouth of the pipe and you’re weightless.
The distance from the mouth of the pipe and the big giant pit is also much smaller than the video makes it look. The whole time I was skating it I was so afraid of losing my board to the pit lol
me and my buddy went there the other day and it was gushing water, do you know if there’s a specific time in the year to skate it or if there’s a water schedule somewhere?
Rad session 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I'll be there tomorrow!
I suck at skating but enjoy cruising dwn the dam.
Hopefully it's dry towards the bottom
Considered that brick fountain destroyed. Fuckin sick. Ride the best.
The Camaraderie is clutch
I was in Phoenix in '86-'87, studying Archetectural Design. I came across the 'Engineering Maps' for the underground Water and Flood-Control pipe-ways. They're "Public Record" IF you know whom to ask, and where to get to them. The Bigger thing is, You cannot make copy, without certification. But, as a Draftsman, I could easily make quick, accurate sketches, and plot my routes in from that. Thus, I found the 'Big Pipes' from the 70's that Alva/Inyoue skated, but underground, unified, Under the City, that went for Miles (Darkly, btw, and the Rats were HUGE!). But, that Info is out there, just gotta think like an Engineer fixing the plumbing-line. Bring a Taser, Lights, and chalk to mark where you've been; and Never go-in, Alone. "PSR"
go film it homie
No lmao
Jhancarlos PROOOOOO my GGG
Grew up near there, been to Baldy a whole bunch of times......but never to the pipe.
I remember seeing pictures in Skateboarder magazine in the 70's of the pipes.
Jumping that huge "death box" was insane!
There was a poster of the late Bob Biniak riding it in one issue from memory. Circa 1975,76ish. High up frontside on the wall with (I think) Roadriders & Bennett Pros.
Wow that is definitely a bucket list crazy
always makes me think about Bob goin for it and breaking both his ankles. That place is heavy
In Perris there was the Bubble
That was more of a free waterslide than for skateboards as it was running with water most of the time
What a crazy spot to discover on acid! Shoutout to that dude!
Fuck yeah that's my neighborhood. SALBALAND!!!
Sick session
You rich bastard!
Murdered both spots. Good skating and filming! Thanks for posting
yeah kieran!
Now that’s …fucken 🛹 I ❤️ it!!! 🤟🏾
This is deadass my dream to go here one day this summer
We want more full pipes!
Tristan crushed that thing
the flat gap
Anyone know where that fountain is at in San Bernardino??
Nine club Salba's episode is great! Definetely recomended
Top 5 for me.... although I don't like trying rank something like that
SALBA. with a B.
Sweet
The story about the guy jumping in to get his lighter and getting stuck is insane
DAR
Reminds me of a time when i was young and doing graffiti, got stuck in a super tall storm drain, had to stand my board up on the wall and use it as a ladder, had to leave it there till i could come back with a friend
They did all the tricks on that thing.
more of these =)
NBDs for the youtube channel. Nuts.
🤘🔥😎
🤘🤘🍻
No Salba?
I grew up on 25th and Euclid the Tube was in my backyard I was skating it 1973 with crappy urethane wheels
San Bernardino spot is sick!
8:04 dont hit a stoprock on the runup....
Yall's pipe game is on another level
Gay
Love that place..... Did you see any tarantulas?
Cookie is so good.
1976 around that year I seen guy go all the way Around inside the pipe no half circle
kickflip abd Duffel in 06
I need to hit that spot
His name was GAR HANSON. RIP. Je told me this story when it happened that Christmas day 20 something years ago and i thought he was bullshiting me. Now i know he wasn't....miss you Gar.you crazy sob.
“…besides alba”
legit
Dar was working on his Darwin award haha
Haven't, been to baldy in many years. But, what a waste of time removing all the old graffiti!
What about shooting the line and Baldy boggers?
We made our own skateboards in Wood shop at school then we would rob trucks off of skates,
I remember upgrading to a Wayne Brown skateboard I thought I was cool man
Skating at the pool across from San Antonio Heights market we called it “the Little store”
Then we would bomb the hill on Euclid from 25th down to the store I got going 52 miles an hour scared the crap out of me
The locals called it the Tube
who's the little dude with the beenie ...he's super smooth
Was this the spot used for hardcore band JFA's album cover?
Shoutout to Dar. Willing to die for a smoke
There was no graffiti back in the day we would take a portable eight track and stick it in the back of the tube listen to the Led Zeppelin Black Sabbath Aerosmith etc.
That wasy buddy Far who you saved
It's up from SD. Not down
I would love to see a straight old Nollie over that gap.
Ima have to get over there soon😅🤘 been needing to go, i don't live far from it haha
Edit: just realised Nollie🤦♂️🤦♂️🤣
at the start of the video, when hes talking about a man stuck somewhere on his own on christmas day, was he stuck in that hole/gap they are ollieing over at 8mins into the video? whats the gap for? whats down the hole?
yea they were, its just like a room, people go down and put fat pieces up cause they never get painted over, its basically a closed off antechamber for water run off
pretty sure they quit using the pipe for water run off, and shut it off since so many people go there so often, and since they have been since like 65
@@cru7ch3ss it's still active. I go there to ride down the dam and it's been wet before
What are those shoes at 12:14?
ENEMA
Where is Waldo?Probably the best skater from the 70's at Baldy pipe.
Waldo Autry? Bob Biniak featured on the Skateboarder poster from memory.
Remember that time Rhino had a temper tantrum and focused a lawn mower in the parking lot of a Home Depot?
who had the #NB shoes?
Cookie is such a naturally good skater. So much control, but if he was just more of a character, he would be more popular.
I grew up skateboarding in VT with him ever since he was like 10 or 12, he IS the most talented skateboarder I've ever met.
@@elliotroberts1824 I believe it. His flick is so effortless.
That brick spot, is that Sadlands?
No. Sadlands was in Anaheim, unfortunately it was torn down a long time ago...
Shout out to DAR
I now understand why the logo is like that.
Good to see that indy product is pc now, they should also get some rainbow flags on there trucks!
have anybody seen a faster kickflips than this @8:08? what was the record on berrics on flat?
25 years old, off and on been living within an hour, or so, from it... still havn't gone🤦♂️
I was just about to ask about anyone ever ollie the gap. Ever see anyone bang out?
Lighters important when you got Crack! 🤪😅
Waldo Autry Mike Weed Greg Weaver Miguel Munoz
Bob Biniak.
