The Value of Lagos Calabar Coastal Road Outweigh Business Ventures Within the Coast - Ugbor

  • The EIA Act is one of the most abused environmental laws in the country however, the West African coastal road from Senegal cutting through 12 African Countries and ending in Kenya will pass through this coastal road so there's an international dimension to this that supersedes the value of business along the coastal road

This person answered questions well and i did some fact-checking. For example, the Baltimore bridge will take 4 years to build, not 10 as he mentioned. I agree with him when he said he would invest the $10 billion meant for roads into electricity, which makes a lot of sense. The government seems short-sighted; how can they attract foreign investors when they can't protect their citizens' investments? Tourism brings big money - in 2023, Mexico earned over $30 billion from tourists, and Taylor Swift's concert boosted the US economy by $5.7 billion. Without good infrastructure, like electricity, health care, and security, tourists won't come, and businesses won't thrive. It's more important for the government to focus on these basic needs than on flashy projects. Places like Obudu Cattle Ranch and Tinapa, meant to attract tourists, are neglected. Nigeria's leaders need to wake up.

Remember that the coastal road is an epic+f project and government is bringing on 15% of the financing and the private sector partner is also very ready to get it going. Despite all the issues on ground, this is a welcome development. On power, there are so much funds in private sector, waiting outside the shores of this country to be invested in power. The government must declare a state of emergency on the power sector and call for a power conference, to dissect, unbundle and chart a new roadmap for the power sector to attract nvestments like the telecoms sector. We really need to put an end to this unending disgrace in this nations power sector. We can't continue with a national greed architecture

The bulk of the money is not coming from the government, it's from private investors. They can use the same method for power too but then that will mean that electricity will become too expensive for people to afford. Even now that it's only the didtribution end and part of the generation aspect of our power sector is controlled by the private sector, power has become expensive imagine if every aspect of the value chain is taken over by the private sector.

I am sorry but I dont see the value to Nigeria of a Lagos to Calabar coastal highway that does not connect any of the major cities and towns between Lagos and Calabar. A road that does not connect Benin, Sapele, Warri, Yenogoa, Port Harcourt , Aba and Uyo, not to count Onitsha and Nnewi which are the critical commerce and industrial hubs. The first few kilometers in Lagos and the lekki trade port will be viable from a tolling perspective, but every thing else will see limited traffic, besides which tourists will drive on a road with the high level of insecurity. Also unfortunately with the way the project was approved without any competitive process and the winner of the contract is a business partner to the Tinubu, this whole thing smells. Lets be honest the 700 KM will never be built in the next 20 years, only the Lagos part will be done. Naija we hail thee......Una mumu never do

@@koladeoyebola Hi Kolade, I beg to disagree. The coastal route is not connecting any on the major ports which would be Sapele, Warri, Onene PH and Uyo that are between Lagos and Calabar, So unless the coastal road is connected to the ports and the major cities between Lagos and Calabar, there will be limited activity. As far as using the African coastal route as a justification, then why not first build the East West Highway, rebuild Lagos Ibadan, Benin Auchi, Benin Warri, Enugu PH, before this project which is probably going to be the most expensive highway in Africa at 4 B Naira per KM. I am sorry but I am not buying the justification especially when a no bid contract is given to the business partner of Tinubu. Hitech cannot compare to Julies Berger or RCC or CCC in terms of track record in highway construction. Open your eyes, for 8 years this same people told you that Buhari was fighting corruption, we now his was the most corrupt govt, his economic performance was the worst ever with Nigeria now having over 200 B USD in debt, and in 2015 you had insecurity mostly in the North East now the whole Country has banditry, terrorism, kidnapping insurgency etc. When you have even the South West wanting to secede that says a lot. This allows for the identification of potential environmental impacts and the development of mitigation measures before construction begins. There is so much invalid discussion going on about this Lagos Calabar Coast road without much thinking. The politicians that against this project for one reason or the other are trying to score political points which does not support infrastructure development in the country. When the idea of moving the Federal Capital to Abuja there were people living in the area prior that their homes were destroyed to give way top the beautiful structure seen in the city today. In order to engage in the second Nigeria bridge there were homes and businesses along side the road before getting on the bridge that were destroyed. What is different in the manner the government is handling the Lagos-Calabar Coastal road? There is no major construction project carried by any government around the the world that does not put into consideration environmental and social economical impact. To say that these considerations were not made at the time this project of conceptualized is ridiculous and not real. The guest has outlined the the importance and benefit of this project upon completion. The people that would enjoy the benefit of this project are the same people who properties have been demolished now when the time comes. The Government who is looking at the long term benefit of a project will do all it can to ensure that project is carried out regardless of the obstacle. If the government did not put in place compensation for all affected by any construction projects that would have been different. Nigerians were aware of this project right from the very time it was thought of and nobody objected to it, therefore it is strange that it is now that the project is of concern. It is sad and it is political. Politics must never be injected into infrastructure development.

I am so much disappointed in Nigeria Media Practitioners for their inability or fear of not asking Salient questions as at when due. By the way, why are Nigerians so oblivious to imminent dangers and doesn’t learnt from successive past occurrence? Why don’t the so-called Federal Government firstly deal with the periodic flooding of Nigeria that would ultimately destroy the absurd Costal Ultra-Motor way when Cameroon open up her dam, which they are likely to drain up very soon? These intellectual lazy journalists are supposed to be demanding to know on behalf of Nigeria people the prototype or statute (design) of the so-called Coastal Ultra-Motorway and how the quality of the road construction is going to be sustained all through without being compromised. If the road project is going to be short of the standard of quality and safety of smart roads (traffic electronically regulated Motorways) built in the Western World, particularly built here in United Kingdom where I live, I can dare say that it doesn’t worth it at all in this modern era. I for one just think APC strategically want to use white elephant project to campaign for reelection in 2027. Period!

The beach is landmarks main selling point, with the beach destroyed, landmark fails as a business. When raising financing, the assumption is that this is a beach resort, this is why he was able to raise up to $100m. Without the beach resort it’s just a hotel. The number of visitors will drop drastically from 3 million / year. With this huge drop in revenue, the company will not be able to pay back the $100m debt, the company will have to close down. This is an undeniable fact.
Your claim that the landmark hotel was illegally occupied is one for contention. I don’t need to tell you about Nigeria, you know how well property and contract law works in Nigeria i.e. massive scam so neither you or me know for sure if he had the right permission to build there so let’s leave this point.
Can you explain to me why the redirected route goes right through landmark hotel beach, then diverts back inland to join the original road that this highway was supposed to be on? They redirected the route to destroy this man’s business, and then the road goes back to the original planned route. Let that sit. How can you support this? How?
Tribal? Dude my parents moved me to London at age 6. I’m 34 years old now.
