What is your number one unwritten rule in triathlon? Let us know in the comments below 👇
YES!! ALWAYS race with a SMILE :D :D :D :D
An honest but ugly truth of triathlon.... using the bathroom takes time and some athletes decide to just go while they’re on their bike or while running. Similar to the trash, be aware of who’s around you and try to give yourself some space so you don’t spray any athletes nearby.
I also say "Thank You" as I pass through the aid stations cause the volunteers are there helping me.
It's crazy how cheering can help to keep up in the race, I always try to smile/noticed the volunteers.
“9 times out of 10 they didn’t mean to hit you.”
I am that 10th time. Fear me.
Fear me 😂😂
Definitely thank the volunteers!! As a matter of fact you should volunteer at least once. It gives you perspective that volunteering is hard work and a sacrifice of time. And since you race you really know what the athletes are going thru, making you an even more awesome volunteer 😊
Thank the volunteers. ALWAYS! And a nice to do is to give your competitors a kind word of encouragement along the way, all in it together.
Giving your fellow age groupers some encouragement on the way around the course. We all need it! Thanking volunteers too.
Good manners are never inappropriate. Love that you place such high importance on this. :-)
Adhering to traffic lights on the bike route when there's not a lane closed off for the race. Can be a tad annoying when you stop at a red light tired and grumpy as you had to stop, then someone goes past you like the flash through the red light and gains a few hundred metres on you when you have been busting your gut to stay ahead of them lol 🤬🤬
Love it!!!!!!!!!!! Well done....
If only I was as fit as Heather!! Keep it up!! 👍
Nice tips! I have my first triathlon of the season tomorrow (in Australia), so these tips are excellent for me :)
How did it go?
Nice job showing a little bit of Kailua-Kona
Well, how was I to know that White was reserved for the pros when buying my first trisuit from wiggle - mostly white! It was the cheapest I could find!! 🤣
This one seems a little silly to me. The general rule is "don't look faster or more professional than you are," but I doubt anyone is going to care about an age grouper finishing hours later than podium contenders wearing white. I just think about arguably more pretentious sports of tennis/ golf which often require a white uniform
Smiling or thanking the volunteers always seems to help me take my mind off the suffering.
Great Videoo and and you are looking Nice and Fit... !
great video thank you
Thanks!
Try to always thank all volunteers as by definition they have volunteered and are not getting paid. Oh, and technical officials are people too!
idk why but you look sharp with your cycling kit, the bunches and the aero helmet
hahaha look at Threlfalls's face at 3:32 as he does what he's always dreamt of doing!
Great video btw. The advice on white tri suits... I wear a white one at times, I do look like crap, but the important area around the groin is all black, so no Dan-Lloying of my jewels in your vision. (I think it's worth mentioning that white stretchy material discloses the exact shape and size of male genitals to everybody caring to look, and after a cold swim and a genital-squeezing bike ride this may not necessarily be a good thing).
Thanks for the upload. Nice work. I got hit by a flying water bottle way outside the litter zone. That was not cool.
All this video was missing is Matt Stevens. Has his name written all over it.
# 1 That at age 28 I came into the sport back in 1985 for better health . Now age 61 no major injuries, same thing
I think this is the third time I’ll say this... really loving the lean look Heather! 😍
I thank the local law enforcement directing traffic; thank the volunteers handing out water and giving direction; announce when passing to the left when cycling; congratulate any handicap team you may pass
True 👌
rule 1: Going #1 on the swim bike or run is fine, but going #2 in the tri-suit too save 30 seconds in the portaloo is not
😂

I'm watching this and then all of a sudden I'm like, hey that's old airports 😆
Heather looking ripped! 💪
I love triathlon
SO DO WE!
I am racing today
Love 💕 from Australia
Don't forget the 7 unspoken rules which can't be spoken about.
Daym girl, you look ripped!
A summary of my speech throughout racing-I try to be polite but it doesn't work sometimes
Spectator(mile 1) "well done!"
Me(mile 1)"hi, thank you!"
Spectator(last mile)"well done!"
Me(last mile) "ugh, argh"
Rule 11: If you are not leading the race and/or on pace to set the world record at Kona, don’t dump Coke all over yourself.
Actually, strike that....... Rule 11_rev 1: don’t ever dump Coke all over yourself when you are near other competitors or aide station volunteers.
No... strike that..... Rule 11_rev 2: don’t dump Coke all over yourself.
Cheers get a smile; catcalls get a finger?
Going to be doing my first triathlon in the new year. It's a pool sprint triathlon. Is their any unwritten rule to wearing a tri suit in the pool? Do you just swim in shorts and then put a cycling jersey on or just swim in your tri suit? Cheers
Josh, that is completely acceptable, racing is all about saving time. Good luck.
@@heatherfell_oly cheers 😀😀
Wait!!! People grab other people's ankles during the swim?! What do they think this is - a bicycle race?? One more reason for me to be the last one in the water 😂
Heather ❤
Heather, you're looking ripped, and cute as always! 🤙😍💪
i think i'm in love with Heather's lean shape! And of course herself!
i think you missed the point with "unwritten rules" these are more like tips for triathlon
Keep out of the overtaking lane on the bike.
When getting passed on the bike, don't start applying more power.
Rule for the road as well. Get dropped and then start to apply more power 😂
OMG, you’re so skinny! You look amazing!
She's lost at least 10 lbs it looks like.
She's not skinny..Its called lean!
Thanks, Mark.
Abs to die for!
@@gtn I guess Heather was typing this...😎
Why not wear white, it doesn't absorb heat??
Because it's yellow by the end of the race. I have a white/red cycling shirt, it looks yellow after a few hours.
No Drafting. Oh wait, that is written; just not enforced :(
Definitely agree with the rule about wearing white. Let the professionals deal with the mishaps of wearing white.
More so do not wear white shorts/bottoms, and the pros shouldn't either. Especially if they are (i know, not triathlon) a cyclocross rider. Mud on white shorts looks nasty
To sum up, don’t be an @ss!!
