Fred is the only character that has actually been funny and somewhat likable. When he said, "prison is cool and all, but no one watches me pee quite like my mom," I actually laughed. The thing is, the only character anyone likes and can relate to is the one character Mindy Kaling wants you to hate. Fred's the most human of all the characters. He might actually develop a character arch. It's ironic, but at this point, Fred would make a better protagonist than Velma.
