Step 1. delete photoshop is a reasonable thing to do, whether you are a game developer or not. 😂
I couldn't agree more 😂
My God THANK YOU SO MUCH for asking to uninstall Photoshop. I hate it with such a passion, I don't know why a program like this happens to be the industry standard, the answer is always "too bad". Now, I hope everyone else I work with follows suit.
Yeah, me too. When I finally uninstalled it, I literally felt relieved. And like I said in the video, I even had some fun using Krita. To be honest, I just keep my fingers crossed that those standards will change for the industry as well.
I am not a creative one, a retired systems guy, but I have got both my daughter and son using Krita. Had to learn a thing or two helping my youngest learning it, but well worth the time and effort. Fully support your ideas. Sub'd for the support!
Learning new things to support your children is extremely wholesome 😍 Thank you!
I've never understood the philosophy that you have to start from scratch in order to be considered legitimate. The same people who believe that aren't exactly making their computers from scratch. They're effectively outsourcing computer production to others!
True, looking at it that way, they also didn't build houses where they sit with those computers 😂
@FiggsNeughton I can tell you why. You need a deeper understanding to make something from scratch. Personally I have no problem with people using frameworks like pygame or engines like unity, but in reality they are a substitute for real programming knowledge (as an example).
To continue with this example, all things being equal I'd rather learn assembly or c++ and make things from scratch because it requires a massive knowledge of coding in comparison. But that's just me, and in the end it would probably take years. Naturally I don't have the luxury to spend years on something like that, so I will make use of other people's work (frameworks, engines etc.) but I think you can tell what my preference is.
@@r.e.4873 But why would you care about someone's depth of programming knowledge? When you're watching your favorite movie, does it bother you that the director didn't build their camera from scratch, and instead went to a store and said "mmm I'll take that one" ? Thinking that you have to learn to program in assembly (!!!!!!) in order to make a game condemns you to remaining a hobbyist... games are already hard enough to make without hamstringing yourself with an illogical purity spiral. When I play a game, I want a meaningful experience. The last thing on my mind is the depth of programming knowledge that some poor dev had. If you have a gift for game development then you have an obligation to show us what you can do, not putter around with assembly!
Thank you for sharing the tools you use. I'd love to see more content on what programs you use!
Thank you, will do!
this video really helped me thank youuu
Glad it helped!
@@Sweepy_Games yeah but still i have alot of questions from you i Dm you in instagram hope you reply
Thank you so much, I would like to start in game dev and your videos motivates me a lot ❤️
Happy to hear that! I keep my fingers crossed for your game dev!
I agree, because there's so much tools that is open to everyone
The tools are like a buffet - so many options, just gotta pick the ones that work best for you.
I'm currently taking a break again as I still have work in my main job - and perhaps I'm also lacking a little motivation to continue... It was nice and helpful to listen to you, thank you!
I'm really glad I could help 🫡
Dani will only come back if they release a new Milk product
It might be true, and what's even worse, releasing a new Milk product to lure him out is beyond my capabilities. At least for now
Hi! First, thanks for your tips. Second, yes, please I would like a video for 3D game art including animations. And finally, also a video with a list of useful tutorials AJ and you have found, will be great, please. Thanks again!
Noted! Thank you 😊
Thanks!
Thanks for this great video and info
hi , it was a cool video , recently i had an idea for a game and i kidna want to make it , so thanks . have a good life
Thank you! Well, maybe that video is a sign to really make a game based on that idea 😊
you're profile picture looks like Elizabeth Holmes.
8:48: "And you know what else is good looking and free?" Umm, me? 🤣
But no. Not really. 😛
Lol that was a good one 😂
Alright, and now for the serious reply. This was not the kind of content I was looking for, nor is it the kind of content I currently need. But I can appreciate the fact that this video deals with things not directly related to the game development process itself, but instead focuses on often overlooked aspects of game development: tools necessary for promotion/marketing and localisation. When you're making games for a living, as opposed to just as a hobby, there's more to it than just your game engine, code organisation, asset creation etc. At some point you need to sell the game too, and that whole process is often not even talked about.
Where are you from ?
Poland
Where exactly did you learn all this things? Like did you take any paid course, or learned from CZcams, or learned on your own?
I didn't learn from paid courses. At first, I learned from CZcams. The skills I acquired from CZcams were enough to land me a job in the industry. Then, I learned a lot from my coworkers on the job. And the techniques you can see in this exact video, I learned on my own. Mainly because at work, I was pushed towards more mainstream programs like Adobe Photoshop. Now, I've discovered that there are easier programs to use to finish the game on your own.
@@Sweepy_Games How on earth? CZcams is enough to land a job? You really should be making a beginner to pro game dev tutorial on youtube
@@LoneWolfGamer666There are plenty of tutorials online on how to do things, from basic to more advanced, nowadays companies want to see your portfolio, not from where you learned, you can learn how much you want but if you do not put what you learned in practise nobody will hire you.
Tutorial or maybe we can make a video with a tier list of tutorials that AJ and I find useful for learning the basics? There are a lot of them that we find really helpful 😊
@@Sweepy_GamesYes plz! And make a video on Godot 4 too.
Ciekawy materiał! 🙌
Thanks!
Interesting and very useful.
Btw. What is your nationality?
💚
Thank you! I'm from Poland
@@Sweepy_Games Me too 😄
What's your favorite game engine?
We're using Unity
@@Sweepy_Games That's what you're using. What's your favorite though 🤣
@@hidemat5141 Well, when we were deciding which engine to choose, the decision was between Unreal and Unity, based on what companies were looking for in the market back then. So, we prefer Unity to Unreal. However, since we're developing the game on our own, we're considering switching to Godot. It's open-source and that is pretty cool. But for now, I'll say that we prefer Unity to Godot because we know Unity better 😊
@@Sweepy_Games That's fair. Thanks for your content. It's inspiring.
Pardon me for asking, but for the whole course of the video I've actually thought you were Russian 😅, but it seems that you aren't - judging by how you spoke about Russian localization.
So where are you from? Poland maybe? If you don't mind answering of course.
P.S. I do find your video helpful, keep it coming please)
Don't worry, I don't mind! Your second guess is correct, I'm from Poland. May I ask what made you think I'm Russian? Perhaps the accent? And thank you for your kind words, I will!
@@Sweepy_Games well it's both the accent and appearance I guess) Thanks for replying and for localization effort, I'm sure it means a lot for the players.
I've actually did the same thing not so long ago with the game mod we've been making, and it also gave us a pretty impressive influx of Russian players judging by the number of country flag emojis on our Discord dev logs
That animation that a kid made would only be criticized by someone who never watched Ian Hubert's stuff (the inspiration is quite evident and predominant).
Note something about the sorts of indie games that succeeded and the sorts of AAA titles that failed:
Indie titles that succeeded are _fun_ and push boundaries of morality: Palworld is a slavery simulator (more so than Pokemon, and better executed). Helldivers 2 is Starship Troopers: the game (making colonialism fun). I'm not saying this to discredit them, these are fun games. On a similar vein, derivative games like Stellar Blade ("Korean NieR") are getting a lot of hype just because the content is "forbidden" by the morality police.
Meanwhile, AAA games are highly polished turds that tick a bunch of boxes for "representation". There is a reason why overpaid and overemployed big studio writers are scared of ChatGPT taking their jobs, and they should.
Wow, that's actually a very interesting approach to those things. I hadn't really thought about it like that before, but that really might be a key as well
U cute
Thank you! 💕
