  • Shenzhen has 21.000 electric taxi's and most of them charge at this charging station. 650+ electric cars can be charged here at once. Most of them are BYD taxis, but there are also some people owned cars. What does it look like? What do the taxi drivers think of the fact that they have to drive electric cars? And what are the other car brands you can find at the station? One of the brands we find is NIO, a Telsa-type electric car brand that young people like a lot.
    This video is EPISODE 01 of the "INSIDE CHINA'S MOBILITY REVOLUTION" series by EVreizen.nl/ for which we travelled to Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Shijiazhuang, Tianjin and Beijing to find out all about Chinese' New Mobility world.

    In America, media are talking down on EV vehicles, all the big petrol station companies do not want people using EV vehicles, because all big petrol companies share prices will fall sharply to nothing,

    That is awesome, and interviewing the actual users for feedback really gives an accurate viewpoint on real world usage and how people feel about it.

    This is 2019 at that time BYD made mostly gasoline cars. In last 18 months BYD which is the GM of China has gone from 20% EV 80% combustion cars to 20% combustion cars and 80% EV ! GM claims along with senile Brandon that they will do the same by 2035 ! BYD proves if you are going to do it you do it now. BYD will be 100% EV by 2024. If you have no intention of really changing there is always a date that is 15 years away for evasive dishonesty.

    Actually, I talked to a Shenzhen taxi driver when I was riding an EV taxi and he doesn't like it. First of all, it takes about 40 min to charge the car. Secondly, the charging park is outside the city so they have to spend about 30 min to get there and another 30 min to get back to the city where their customers are. Thirdly, taxi drivers usually go to charge their cars at the same time, just before the next shift (they are required to hand over the taxi fully charged,) so a lot of time, they have to stand in line for another 30 min for a charging spot. All in all, in a 12 hours shift, there is 2 hours that they are not making money. The EV mandate (by the Shenzhen government) is great for the environment for sure, but it does come at a cost to the livelihood of taxi drivers. The taxi driver told me he was looking forward to most is longer battery ranges and shorter charging times. Apparently, he never heard of battery swapping yet.

      The driver did say the electricity cost is much lower than gasoline, but it does not make up for the time lost.

      People like that are stupid. Dont they know how much is the cost of hospital bills due to respiratory illnesses and cost of climate change. They shoukd be proud and thankful instead. Tell that taxi driver to count his money while not breathing

      @Bittergigglejoker Před 3 lety +1

      All taxi drivers r spending the same time to get charged so nobody earning money for 2 hrs.....2 hrs working hrs reduced...instead of wasting time, pls use 2 cars, once battery charge is empty so take another fully charged car , adust the timing by the support of chinees gvmt or bring battery swap technology...

    Until 2019, BYD had been a bigger EV maker than Tesla, but Tesla is recognized as the pioneer in this space. BYD is OK in building cars, but it totally sucks in building a brand and awareness. It did the most business in selling fleet to taxi companies which might be a sensible business strategy before large consumer adoption of EVs, but who wants to drive a car that is associated with the taxi fleet.

    Vincent if there is one country that could standardise on a single form faktor battery pack exchange system it is China.
    Why have thousands of people waiting there, hanging around for hours, in that boring and depressing area if you can exchange a fully charged battery in a couple of seconds..?
    I will NEVER settle for this.
    So stop pretending that this station is anything innovative, it’s just depressing
