  • Some folks have been talking about a DnD Scandal associated with One DnD and the future of dungeons and dragons. One of my viewers pointed me in the direction of this video that talks about it so I decided to film my reaction. I'm sure she isn't crazy, just passionate..

I appreciate your reactions. As someone with a business background myself, I understand what under monetized means. I understand no longer letting other creators make almost a million dollars off of WotC/Hasbro's IP without paying anything to WotC/Hasbro. I look forward to D&D branded clothing, accessories, books, movies, games, etc. I really wish that a basic business course was required education in high school so people would understand the difference between shady business behavior and normal capitalist behavior.

I'm very glad you didn't link to the original video. Whoever put this video together is trying to exploit any possible outrage, and get serious revenue from the ads.
Like you, I think Hasbro can and should use their intellectual property (IP) to make money. Ideally, they'll do it with better products and services. There are plenty of other companies and RPGs that people can switch to if they find Hasbro's grand plan too expensive or intrusive.

Yeah, if you look at her collection of vids you'll be hard pressed to find anything positive on there.

The notion that d&d is undermonitized is a misnomer, it leads from an assumption that third party creators are riding the market share to make money from d&d's brand. The reality is the opposite, d&d only has the market share it does because of third party creators and hasbro have benefited from zero cost marketing and labor from the 3rd party ecosystem for over a decade.
Secondly, within the larger gaming industry we have seen a directional shift towards psychologically exploitative and morally questionable practices, the injection of gambling and marketing towards children in a way that is getting pushback especially in the EU but with some concerns in the United States as well. Community skepticism around a shift to similar practices in the d&d space especially after video gaming and mobile gaming were mentioned as a model in the shareholder video give legitimacy to those concerns.
Lastly the recent changes to the OGL for d&d from recent rumors are at best dishonest in their attempt to obfuscate licensing law in the United States and at worst an attempt to attack competitors to d&d that are operating under the previous license.
In the end this will cost Hasbro a considerable amount of good will, and the unpaid marketing and labor of the third party community will evaporate.

Yeah, that channel is pretty wonky, IMO. Just "nerd rage" and hyperbole. Pure entertainment, I guess.
