awesome review! gonna check out advanced tiny dungeon for my solo play
Fate Core is the best system. But I'm not writing about Fate Core now. I'm writing about Mindjammer, the version that is based on Fate Core, that is a SF game. But in that SF game you can play whatever you like. And if the thing isn't there you can use the Fate Core rules to make it there. So it's a kind of SF game that is a kind of universal game. The rule book is big.
I was 11 when this trailer was released
2024 @ yet that was remarkable moments of plant earth ❤❤❤❤😊
Still coming back to this reaction..
6 years later, still gives me goosebumps. I miss marvel
FUZION was by far the best.
yes it s based on a card game and the universe around it. I bought it, i didn t finished yet but for now the system seem pretty complicated and vague, i m not sure this will fit with the table i want to make with only peoples that never played any role playing games
As a grad student, I don't have enough free time (or leftover brain juice) to plan out a D&D 5e campaign, so to scratch my TTRPG itch, I find myself running one-shots a couple times a year for friends who are complete TTRPG newbies. I find Tiny D6 (especially Advanced Tiny Dungeon) to be the perfect intro system for them and leaves plenty of room for us to build our characters, focus on epic storytelling, and get through an adventure in a timely manner. I am a HUGE fan of the Tiny D6 system and all their sourcebooks - I just found a War of the Worlds adventure setting for Tiny Gunslingers that I can't wait to try!
That's AWESOME! I just got a new TD6 book in yesterday. Stranger Stuff.
2024
Now she does her online stuff.
I really like the mechanics of Tiny d6. Simple for players and DM to manage and understand immediately--NO math :) And the action economy with "Focus" and "Evade" adds a pleasing tactical element for players. With a dice roll, all we're trying to do is decide if an action was successful, and tiny d6 streamlines that wonderfully.
I've run several character creation sessions, and character creation goes really well and easily using the descriptive sentence. What's really key is to get that book, and then pick your genre, and pick up the "white book" for the Genre (They ave Horror, Fantasy, Sci Fi, Super Heroes, Post Apocalyptic, and Fairy Tales) and it helps you pick what to extract out of the book, and adds even more. I'm really fond of it. They are constantly release new "genre books" to help people build out their worlds.
I'm still a GURPS guy but I think I may check out Coretex Prime.
I bought it some weeks ago in german. It has the newest 2E rules. I love it ...but must admit, that I searched for some homebrew rules. Now I'm even more happy ... 😁
Is that the standard color book or premium?
color premium I believe.
How much is this bill?
For the hardcover of Between Sun and Shadow is $25 right now.
i mean seperate art form artist. thats they i view people that i disagree with but they release a good product or game.
The loadout mechanics are purely there for manageable gameplay and have a very tenuous narrative justification. To me, Daggerheart is a merger of Dungeon World and D&D with numerous board game elements to help ease the management of the various mechanics and resources being used during a session.
The cards are where a lot of the game mechanics for ancestry, backgrounds, subclasses, and domain abilities are located. So rather than having to write all of that stuff down on a character sheet, it's available in cards, akin to a board game like Mansions of Madness or Descent: Journey into Darkness. It has its pros and cons, but the major pro is convenience of access.
Agreed.
I would love to see your ultimate Powers guide for tiny supers

It was all downhill for hulk starting in infinity wars
How about if I call you Omen?
That is always acceptable Lightning Bug!
Check out Longshot City I think that game is up your alley.
The synergy between PbtA and aspects from FATE makes for a very versatile and elegant TTRPG system.
I loved reading City of Mist, but haven't gotten a chance to play it. I echo your sentiment about wishing they'd release a less setting-dependent "toolkit" version of the system, but considering the changes they've been making to the rules to suit their new settings, maybe they need more time to tinker with it all themselves first? :)
Sorry for all of the tragic experiences you're experiencing, Azerod. I wish you and your wife the best. As for Legends in the Mist, the fundamentals are solid, incredibly versatile, and very useable, for both players and (more importantly) for the GM. The folks at Son of Oak studio have very informative videos on how this game works on their CZcams channel.
Thanks Pal. Last year was definitely rough! Hoping for a better one this year, but the grim reaper is working over time in my circle.
Ah...er...um...uh.......
Can't tell if this is a commentary or just poking fun at my fillers. If I use my English accent it's all "yeah, right and okays.".
Wouldn't Rifts be considered a Universal system? Wasn't it really the first popular RPG to do that?
Palladium could be considered universal, but I don't think it ever released just a core rule book with all the options.
I still wish I could go back and see that movie for the first time
True
Who is here rewatching the trailers to remember the good old days???.... great reaction, full of emotion
Who else is watching this on February 2024 ?
I have seen you reviewing several superhero rpgs. Which one do you think is best if you think of easy to mid difficulty and has a good flow to the game?
Prowlers and Paragons is the gold standard in Super Hero RPGs.
@@Azerod Thank you. I will buy that one then.
If they included every detail on every power it would make a really massive book. They should do it like the old rolemaster...One book on each topic/Power type. Make many smaller Supplement books.
How is this compared to Tiny Supers?
I picked up both the Core game and this campaign and I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. There's definitely stuff I can pick apart, but it looks like it should be a fun campaign. While I'll definitely present an option to change characters for each Rank, I think it would be more interesting to establish in Session Zero that the heroes being used are just having their powers awakening and they'll be learning more and more about what they can do as they progress, justifying the ranking up of them for each adventure. I may consider adding some form of "cosmic boost" to really justify getting all the way to Rank 6, like in a Captain Universe sort of vein, but if the players go into this with the "awakening powers" mindset and don't just make street-level heroes, that may not be necessary. I'll have to give the campaign a second read through to consider it further, but I think there's an opportunity to run the same characters and make it work. We'll eventually see when I finally get it to the table.
Greatest Trailer Of All Time
Seriously, how can you have people tearing up over TRAILERS!!. Then totally screw it up where no one wants to watch your films?
How is it compared to games like ICONS or Mutants and Masterminds?
Dude! Turn your intro music DOWN and your microphone UP! About blew out my phones speakers initially and then thought your music actually did blow them when you started whispering into the mic like uncle Joe
LOL. Thanks for the heads up and advice!
The music at the beginning of the video could've been a bit louder, especially compared to your monologue.
6 years later 😲
Great review, backed kick starter and looking forward to running campaign!
Yes the heros and stuffs your get in the starter box!
Very cool!
Yeah echo gain the phoenix force in Aaron’s Avengers run. Not a great run in my point of view.
TSR's Marvel Super Heroes is a more intuitive, faster system to run and play than the new Marvel Multiverse game. If only good art made the overall playability of an rpg better 🙄
Agreed. It also established clear benchmarks and made stats for just about every hero that I agree with. TSR Marvel and DC Heroes back in the 80s were absolute gems.
@@Azerod Have you heard of the TTRPG, Ascendant? This supers RPG pays tremendous homage to both TSR Marvel and DC Heroes in the use of both its chart (and d100 resolution mechanic) and the use of logarithmic scaling for many types of quantities to figure out how the comic book physics within the game world work (which can be done pretty quickly if you have the corresponding formulas readily on hand). The artwork in it is also high-quality, something akin to the first edition of Mutants & Masterminds.
@@Azerod I'm not sure I agree. Looking through the profiles, everyone mostly makes sense. Granted I've never played TSR Marvel Super Heroes but that's just me maybe. The only real problem I have is the dice gimmick of the system and how the Marvel die has two sixes so you have a 25-30% chance of getting a six. However looking at a few combat test videos it's actually a bit more involved than at first glance.
I know this video is a few years old, but I got recommended it out of nowhere (well, not NOWHERE, I watch a lot of TTRPG videos) and I was interested to see your list. Turns out, our lists of the best generic systems are almost identical! I do agree that Genesys and Cypher are on the lower end, primarily because of proprietary dice (which makes it really hard to play the game when they're out of print) and somewhat overly complicated rules, respectively. That said, I do love Cypher's character creation system of "I am an X Y who Zs". Fate and Savage Worlds are my overall favorites; I love narrative systems so Fate is just about perfect for me, and I think Savage Worlds is the perfect balance point between a lot of crunch and a lot of narrative. But then Cortex Prime is so incredibly interesting; i've never played it _yet,_ but as someone who loves generic systems as a sort of toybox ("I'll pull out this, that, and these other toys and see what I can do with them today, and perhaps tomorrow I'll pull out entirely different toys and have a different play session"), Cortex Prime is that in _spades._ Cortex Prime feels more like it's a step by step guide to create your own TTRPG, because so many of its little modular bits are just so unique and cool. I still to this day love the concept that Marvel used Cortex Prime for, where every hero has a ranking based on how well they work solo, as a duo, or in a team. It evokes such a simple concept in supers comics; some supers are total loners, some join every team they see, and some just need their iconic buddy with them on the job. Cortex Prime gives you so many other cool ways to rank your characters' abilities, like based on your bonds with other people. It's definitely the system I'm most interested in trying once I get the time to sit down and really delve into it.
Cortex is one of my favorite systems of all time. Give you that cinematic feel. Smallville was a master class in someone who understood screen writing and put into an RPG book. It's a lot to wrap your head around, but once you do, holy cow.
Watch one cat video and over the next year you'll get cat video recommendations even if you tell it to not recommend them.
One of my friends got very into City of Mist as something to read, chat about and write up characters in, so I got some PDFs for it. Looked like a really cool and actually fresh way to do "supers" to me. I'm not that into Otherscape as Cyberpunk isn't really my jam, but I was wondering if that game would bring the CoM system closer to "standard" superhero material in some ways. As for Legends in the Mist, your video is the first I'm hearing of it!
Thank you for the great review. Was hesitant to give it a look.
Hey man, how you doing? Oh man I remember back 5/6 years ago when Infinity War had just been gearing up to come out, I remember watching the trailer about 20 times. And I remember seeing your trailer reaction with your daughter all those years ago…..sucks we’ll never get another Infinity War again 😢
I'm surviving. I've got high hopes for Secret Wars. The set up in the Marvels wasn't all in your face about it, but boy are they subtly doing a build up.
As not a fan of PBTA systems, I enjoyed reading City of Mist, at least, so I do look forward to a fantasy take I can read through from them! Also, since you do enjoy the faster systems, what do you think about the ICRPG system? There's a light supers setting in it (not the most extensive, but a good start). Would love to see you review it!
It looks very interesting, I haven't picked it up yet. I just might!
