I had an epiphany this last year. My mother and mother in law died in December one week apart from each other. And I would like to say if you do anything for your children do not leave a hoarded mess to leave for them, please, please, please. My mother had 3 walk in closets filled to the brim plus jewelry and makeup and hats, purses etc….we just now tamed that situation. And it’s been mentally and emotionally exhausting and sad. So please y’all, have some sense of moderation or if something happens, you’ll leave a mess for whomever comes after you to clear out. Do not put this burden on your kids

No one talks about this enough…I’ve seen this happen with my great grandma, my grandma, I see my mom and 7 aunts doing this and even see my own self doing this and I have no kids. This video and your message have confirmed that unsettled feeling I’ve been having within myself to begin to purge and quit buying so much crap that I won’t use. Thank you for sharing your story because this is truly my epiphany. 🙌🏾

@@CChamp79 it’s a Western mindset. I watch all these bloggers & vloggers basically shopping themselves to death & this has now become a norm- watching people shop & doing the same. To me, it looks crazy.
I’m from the Caribbean & we all have a sense of familial & national responsibility. You didn’t raise yourself, so once you’re older you use the money you make to support others in your family, or wider community. Many of us are raised in poverty, so once we make a lil sumn- it’s going towards improving our countries.
When I see people pouring all this money on themselves I think, where are your parents? Where are your nieces & nephews. What is happening in your community? It’s a very self centred mindset & from the outside looking in, it looks like pure madness.

This is real growth, Mrs Eva! Unfortunately, we live in a very consumerism environment and these days having an abundance is seen as good while people don't realize the negative effects that come with having unnecessarily too much. Rather best to have the however many items that actually mean something to you than an entire collection just for show, yet you're an unhappy buyer. I have a bit of a clothing and shoe addiction but I try to catch myself before purchasing the item - cos sis has no space in her apartment. Great video and I've missed you, thank you for sharing your wisdom!

    Hey lady,
    I missed you!
I'm so happy and proud of you. You've come into a new season of your life. As some of us get older and wiser, we come to learn that all of the "stuff" doesn't give us joy because we start to enjoy the little things that we took for granted, such as health, which is the ultimate wealth! We start to realize that all of the expensive bags, clothes, jewelry, shoes, cars, etc. which meant something at one time, means nothing. After all, we only use 20% of what we buy, meaning that we reach for the same things over and over again. Spending time with love ones, taking mental breaks, and self discovery is what becomes our focus. We no longer do things that we thought we needed to do to be happy, such spending and wasting money. We hopefully learn that time is a commodity and there's no need to sweat the small stuff. We learn that being angry has no power and forgiveness is for ourselves! We learn to just BE!!

I agree with you. Most of my clothing is not worn daily except on Sundays because I work in scrubs. So it's better to buy more scrubs so I have enough for a whole week without doing laundry in between and more pjs to sleep in than other fancy clothing for our fantasy glamorous lives lol. I am also selling/donating 80 percent of my current wardrobe. I don't have too many shoes so I will keep most of mine because they wear out fast. I am also selling some accessories. I only have 6 or 7 purses; but, a few are so small they only fit a phone a lotion and lipgloss. I can only use those for a special event so one black one is sufficient for that purpose. I hope you check my channel out. I don't really do hauls on purpose because of the way it would affect me to think I am encouraging people to spend money they may not have to feel better.

NOW, in my early 50s, I’m living and loving my own whenever I desire (per the weather). It transforms you, moves, thrills you and satisfies you. My mother was a gardener and my grandmother was a gardener and that made me a gardener and from that my children even learned and have appreciated gardening. So it is definitely what I call “free therapy”. Gardening is God’s earthly gift of serenity; enjoy it. You will never stop loving it. Nothing as satisfying and gratifying as watching a plant grow and flourish and your garden beautify itself in time. All in God’s timing and earth.

I’m mostly at home resting, working, entertaining or hiking in the woods.

Racial trauma? On a daily basis?!
There are many black & brown people risking their lives trying to get to the USA. The same black/brown people that face horrendous discriminations, BY THEIR OWN KIND and also by their white counterparts.
Yes there are racial challenges here in the US, but I can assure you it does not compare to what others go through in other parts of the world. We are far too blessed here in the US-- if we do not have money, we can get subsidized housing, EBT for food, medicaid, free education, grants for college, etc. These are all things that a person in Africa would only dream of, and they're the ones facing the REAL trauma. This is the exact reason why Africans (Nigerians, Ethiopians, etc.) EXCEL when they come to America-- they see opportunity here and they know what REAL poverty and discrimination looks like.
Besides, African Americans face far greater threat from their own kind here in the USA-- and that's a known fact!

I love this content. I believe more people will wakeup about all this over spending thing. Social media is full of it and I think people is getting tired or it. I just saw that the majority of Americans live paycheck by paycheck and they don't have at least $500 save in their bank account in case of an emergency. That's crazy if we think about how much money we spend in other things.

I needed this. I have gotten rather carried away with the niche fragrance buys, clothing and makeup, jewellery etc since I lost my husband last year. I know I am trying to fill a huge blank in my life, but you have helped me to realise I must get off this merry go round and get back to reading, colouring anything but you tube ! Powerful! Sometimes you have to step back and reassess what’s really important. I have been cleaning and getting rid of things that I’m not wearing. I’m only keeping things that spark joy 🤩 and saving money in the process. I’m only 1 month in of no shopping and I honestly don’t miss it, I have been shopping in my closet and that’s bringing me joy😊
Now talking about back in the day… my love started with Sweet Honesty by Avon and Skin So Soft…. Moving up to Loves Baby Soft from the drugstore to my first Designer fragrance Beautiful by Estée Lauder and Cacharel’s Anais Anais those were my signature scents. Love to see you back🌹

I stay out of the fragrance stores because I know there are perfumes I would try then I’m buying those also. At least I thrift my clothes and shop from my closet. I need to get this house back in order. This Covid thing changed me.

I am truly so happy for you Eva. By the way, welcome back! I haven't seen a video from you popping in my feed for a long time... and now I know why. I have confession to make: I also went through some self checking about buying and buying perfumes senseless- ly. I found myself feeling ridiculous. I said to myself: this has got to stop and focus on other more important things. So I am on a no buy period as well and I'm actually selling quite a few fragrances that I find redundant.

Your video is timely and perfectly matches where I’m at as well. I’m in the process of moving from one state to the next, and I’m always amazed, and this time slightly overwhelmed with the amount of stuff that I have accumulated a short period of time. I’ve come to realize that, like you, there are certain things - a select number of things - that I reach for over and over again! I have thoroughly enjoyed downsizing, and upgrading, my wardrobe, home decor, book collection and even… The ingredients I used to cook! Variety is great, and a luxury that every single person should at one point in time explore. However, I’ve come to realize that variety in excess is clutter and all forms… And it’s too much to manage! I’m here for this renewed mindset, and also glad to see that there is a budding community of influencers who are having the same kind of Epiphanies!!

Just found your channel, decided to stay and listen, fast forward most of it until you started talking about fragrances. Been on the hunt for something new, well everybody's talking about this or that, so I decided to try 2 new designer labels. (1) MFK delivered, smelled it and my first thought was, umm no, no, no, ok what is wrong with me, everybody is talking about this fragrance, or how everybody stops traffic to run and ask "what are you wearing?" (2) Delina, arrived today, nervously opened it, smelled it...ok I might be able to work with this one, waiting for the dry down and it's getting better as I'm watching you speak on it. This one I'm keeping, she's definitely a keeper.

I feel you on the shopping...I told myself that I don't need anything else...no clothes, shoes, perfume, purses....I am at peace with not buying so much...I am spending some of my money on plants and art....and save more:) You're speaking the truth!!

This was great Eva! I didn't impulse purchase every payday before the lockdown but once that happened most of my shopping became more need based. Working from home, fewer places to go, fewer guests so why waste money? I have started using any extra money to prepare a little for the short term future in how to take of myself and help my family deal with inflation and putting away non perishable foods and learning how to do it properly. This means something to me so Eva you are sooo correct...you look at spending and collecting "things" differently when something more important occupies your time.

I relate to this so much. I have always been a fragrance lover since I was young. And just how you described getting up Saturday morning to fragrance shop I related so much to that special occasion. I also found that when I am lonely, working nights, dealing with the rough winters I shop so much more. I told myself no more blind buying because I want to love what I have and use up what I have. My love of fragrance will never go away, but I want to be more conscious of what I buy and recognize if I want something or if I’m chasing that high due tue my current situation being alone.

Thank you for this message. I had this realization a few months ago and felt so relieved when I shifted from consumption to appreciating what I do have. Now, I have 4 perfumes and do not buy another fragrance until a bottle has finished and once it’s finished I can try something else. That feels reasonable to me and feels like I’m not just purchasing to purchase. Plus, the fragrance gets old after 2 or 3 years so that makes me want to use it up before it gets old and pungent.

God shows us when it's time to let it go. He will help us to let it go. It's very hard. Sometimes, he gives us a new joy, His mercies are new every morning! It sounds like you are celebrating His new mercies. I am so glad for you. He who began a good work in you shall complete it. Rejoice, my sister! I wish I could sew.
