  • Muffler swap! 2020 Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 Limited crewmax 4x4.
    Carven TR series was a little too underwhelming, for my taste, with regards to sound amplitude.
    Swapped out to Carven R series. Also, switched from 3 inch rolled exhaust tips to 4 inch, double walled tips. ** filmed on my new Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra (a friggin $1300 phone) so I don't know why the sound is so LOW. **
    My current setup: True dual exhaust setup. 2.5 inch inlet on both Carven TR/R performance mufflers. Custom made H-Pipe by Atlantic Mufflers. 2.5 inch piping from cat to exhaust tip.
    Mild cabin drone on both TR and R series mufflers at around 2,000 rpm. Honestly, doesn't bother me at all. Might be annoying on very long trips, though.
    Hope you find this video helpful so that you can go on and make an informed decision when you decide to change out your exhaust.
    ** I do Not work for Carven, nor am I sponsored by them. I just simply like the tone of their exhaust and the craftsmanship of their products.

    The Toyota 5.7 v8 sounds so good! I have yet to find a v8 Tundra that doesn’t sound good with aftermarket exhaust. I want a single cab Tundra.

      Definitely! Those new hybrid v6 Tundra's are a shame

      Watched a review of a v6 Tundra a month or so ago. I remember the reviewer was talking about speakers that played v8 sounds throughout the cab. Reminds me of EVs and their exaggerated, futuristic whirring noises they make whenever you give it the beans.

    Sounds beautiful, I’m gonna go catless and do a similar setup with carven mufflers but with an x pipe for deeper sound, less rasp and drone, maybe I’ll add a second muffler

    • @kevin_hemi3923

      If u want a deeper sound, u should do an H-pipe.. Not an X-pipe

    • @lockplay
      @lockplay  Před 5 měsíci

      I concur with Kevin. H-Pipe is a deeper sound. If you really want to go loud, you can remove the 2nd cat off your Tundra. Still passes smog.....I think.

      It's definitely louder. Twice as loud? Not sure. TR has low pitch deep tone. Sometimes inaudible to me

    Did you notice a mpg change vs. stock?

    • @lockplay
      @lockplay  Před 2 lety +1

      I noticed about a 1 mpg gain. But then again that observation is probably skewed since gas is so expensive these days that I don't really smash on the gas pedal as much.

      @@lockplay thanks. I have a 2010 tundra with two flowmaster 40 series. It sounds ok, but my mpg tanked after installing. I average 11 to 12 mpg now. On the other hand they were mufflers that I already had and were 2.25 in/out. I thought it would be ok since I used two mufflers. I guess I was wrong.

      @@micahcox464 from what i read (many hours on the forums), you want to get as close to the factory oem piping width, as possible. I think Keith from Dirty Deeds did many tests regarding this, and even a 1/4 inch width in variance made all the difference in performance. Note: that is if you're stock at the block and haven't changed out to long tube headers.

    How much louder is the R compared to the TR?

    • @lockplay
      @lockplay  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I say 2x louder. It's subjective but that's my opinion.

    • @smartcookie3500
      @smartcookie3500 Před 5 měsíci

      Sounds about right. The TR has sound deadening material in it while the R do not. Also since the body is shorter on the R, it doesn't muffle as much.
