He talks about breaking the parasite cycles in livestock and pasture development/management. I hear sheep cannot tolerate copper in any amount. I applied spinosad (biological control) on avocado trees…it’s like they are covered in rust or something.😃🤙🌈
@@Vesparado I wish I was on island. I’m not sure but it has to do I think with bugs eating tree sap and then our fire ants going up the tree. After the bugs. If I were there I could look into it….Our place is in Puna which we have to rent unfortunately for now anyways our yard guy applied the stuff
It's lacewing. They are attacking everywhere. I would love to split up my little half acre for rotational grazing. Really need to get some fencing but don't want fencing all over in my yard either. Conundrums
I had a friend who had goats, and he would tie then up in a area, and they would only eat anything in the radius of the area they were in. That's how he controlled them from eating everything in site.
I was in a farm that did that once. The goat got tangled in the rope around its leg, got injured and a month later the leg fell off. I can't do that again to an animal. It was sad.
@@HomesteadinHawaii Wow, that is sad. How long did they leave the goat unattended??? My friend used a Cable up in the air, with a slid leash, that followed the goat. I know another guy, a friend of my dad that did something similar, but used a chain on top of a post that swiveled around in a circle. He used a chain, as the goat kept eating through the rope.

Sean, I live in Paauilo which is between Waimea and Hilo. I am getting an old raised planter bed ready for planting vegetable seeds. It is about half full of planting material. Looks like the red soil that is all over the property. How do I replicate that? Mix red or black cinder from Puna Rock with steer or chicken manure and compost? Just don’t want to mess it up and want to preserve the good drainage. What proportions should I use of each material? Also how do I keep poisonous slugs out without injuring my cats? Thanks for your help.
Gotta go out at night a pick slugs with tongs or use shallow dishes with beer in it. Use black cinder for drainage. Mix soil, manure, compost you name it. Just enough cinder to drain well. I did make a video on how I filled my beds, Maybe it could help

Should I continue doing Auto Glass Repair? Should I start a Landscaping business? Or perhaps could I start a Butchering business? I’m very interested in Butchering. Is butchering in high demand out in the rural areas of Hawaii? Perhaps I could have a business in which I butcher other homesteader’s animals. If not, is Auto Glass Repair in demand in Hawaii? everyone has a landscaping business out here so Iʻd second guess that. Butchering would be huge but there are tons of regulations and hurdles. Auto glass could be a thing but I donʻt know the market well enough. But coming out with a trade is the best way to go. I wish I could say conditions were the same now as when I came out here but unfortunately housing is expensive, there is not much of it and locals do not like transplants, especially now. With that, it is possible if you want it bad enough. Good luck on what you do!!
I live up in mountain view and am new to the island and was wondering where it is that you get your garden dirts, cinder soils, and mulch. There's not much dirt around here and I'm wanting to plant fruit trees, dragon fruit and vines. Thanks for any help

I've got the same rusty avo leaves in Kealakekua. I think they're infested with lace bugs.

Good work out there. Fire ants suck. You have to be consistent treating with tango and Bifen for border control
