Wow! Almost exactly a year ago. I have watched a ton of your videos, but never saw this one {with the short hair}. I love your work. Thanks for taking the time to let us follow along.
" a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step' in this case a soggy step... Awesome journey you are about to embark on, I would like to do the whole trail one of these days... Good luck... Looking forward to watching more videos of your progress!
First hiker of the year, and maybe the only one ;-) That environment seems much sketchier than the AZ trail or the AT, what with the gators and snakes. Your pace on land is noticeably slower, for that reason I assume. Love the videos.
Wonder if it's always that wet? We've (Florida) had a lot of rain this year. I don't think I would enjoy hiking/wading through that much water. Thank you for doing this video though. I didn't even know this trail existed. Been watching a thru hike video on both AT and PCT.
Would you SUL(Super Ultralight) hike Big Cypress? I'm pretty close to a SUL pack but it essentially means having to sleep on the ground with a tarp and not a tent.
Hi Chris, I follow this whole series of the Florida Trail last year, and it inspired me to go ahead and do the same, something I've been thinking about for a long time. I'm trying to research the cost and get a plan together, would you be willing to share that information perhaps in an email back-and-forth or do you have some videos on what it cost how to send your food ahead etc. etc.? Maybe what kind of gear you would recommend. I'm doing a south to north route just like you did starting in January
Chris. Really enjoy following your hikes! With all of the water you had to wade through on the FST I was wondering what type of shoes or boots you wore and what type of socks? Thank you!
funny to see your pace has changed .... on the AZ trail you are hauling. Maybe you were a little apprehensive especially since this area is under water
There is really little in Florida that can get you out there. You have a very tiny population of panthers in the big cypress area (only 100 of them or so remain) I have hiked and camp extensible on that area and never see one. I am sure they have been around but they know that humans means trouble and keep their distance. The black bear population is also no that large... and they are basically big raccoons as long as you keep the food safe there should be no issues. I will be more worried about the 2 legged kind of critter and not any animals. Although it is a lonely trail cause not that many people thru hike it the trail is close to civilization 90% of the time. A gun is a personal decision, I have never taken mine out while camping but if you feel more comfortable carrying one by all means. Just make sure you double check cause the trail passes thru an indian reservation and a military base and they might have some special regulations for carrying fire arms.
I open carry while backpacking as is your right as long as you are camping (not just hiking) or traveling to and from camping, fishing, or hunting activities.See Fl st. 790.25 (3)(h). There has been some debate as to whether you can open carry in National Parks. I always have and have never had a problem but do your own research about National Parks. My decision is to protect myself from the most dangerous animals on the face of the earth....the 2 legged kind. Bears, coyote, panthers, snakes, raccoons, don't pose much of a threat as long as you use common sense. Man, I don't trust at all. Just a personal decision.
Your genuine enjoyment of the simple things is exactly why I love this section. Very few places like it in the world. Great video!

@@ChrisBerry Did they dry very fast when you had the chance, especially in the Florida climate?

Before you finish, you just might have the chance to catch and eat a python.
Hi Chris! I watch you on "yankeeintheSouth". Are you single?
