There is water...but the worst of it is in Big Bend and the Eastern Panhandle. Big Cypress is good if the water table is low. You'll see parts of Florida you didn't know existed. Remember that the FTA considers the paved road walks like the Nova Rd walk to be optional...most hikers do them, but they can make you feel very unsafe. Honestly, the trail is not as wet as people say in the Southern part...sure Big Cypress is 3-4 days of water, but then it's a lot of roads, dirt roads, and berms to hike on. When you start getting back toward the Panhandle be careful...Bradwell Bay can be very dangerous if you don't check the water table, and the same goes for a lot of the river areas up there (remember that some of them are watersheds for further North and just because it hasn't rained in the local area it doesn't mean they aren't at flood stage)...oh, yeah, don't risk it if an area is at flood stage...not worth it at all. Make sure you plan a zero at Hillcrest Baptist Church, the Wilton Hilton is the best place to stay up there. The trail can be deceiving about how long it takes or how hard it is...if water is up it's like lifting weights with every step. If you need anything or want my take on pieces of it (I did it 2 years ago now) and I live in the Orlando area, just message me. Trail name is Loafer.
I waited over 8 minutes to hear the magical "heading north!" Look forward to tracking your progress and seeing what this trail looks like. My daughter lives in Tampa and I was thinking about spending a week on a section of that trail next time we visit her! Buen camino, Betty White! 🙌🏼
Good to see you again. You were one of several who convinced me to attempt in 2022. Short failure. To quote Little Feat “my mind made a promise that my body couldn’t fill”. Look forward to follow your adventure.
What a great surprise to see a new video from you today! My wife and I watched your daily AT videos during your 2021 thru-hike and really enjoyed the “realness” of your narration and vlogging style. We’re glad that you’re doing well and excited that you will again bring us along on this new journey.
Lived in Florida (St Aug) for 25 years. Glad to be farther north now. I can understand the apprehension from the tramily. I don't want to spend more than a couple of days down there now, too hot, too buggy, too wet and don't even get me started on the politics. 😆 I'll be watching you slog through it. Good luck! I enjoyed your AT hike.
So excited to see this video drop - like many other posters, I loved your 2021 AT thru-hike series and the honest and natural style of your narration. It is going to be great!
Hello Ian, we are so glad you are back on CZcams. I hope we'll be able to connect on the Florida Trail with you! BTW, of the dozens of AT Vloggers, your vlog has been our overall favorite
Frost here. I'll see you on the trail, Betty White! Going to try and make it to the first Florida trail days in White Springs February 7th, 8th and 9th
Wow, great to see you again, your last hike was awesome to follow. You’ll do great I’m sure, stay safe, stay healthy, have a great time. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Hey Ian, Followed your A.T. hike on you tube. I am planning to do the A.T. in 3 or 4 years. After I retire. I am looking forward to following your Florida hike. Heres wishing you well. CB
Hi from Canada Ian,I was quite happy to see you pop up in my feed today as I hope to hike the A.T in 2025 and look back at your videos for bits of information quite often. Good luck on this hike and I look forward to following along.
Glad to see you back. I feel your pain about the lack of mountains in FL. Down here in So Fl, if its not a bridge or a landfill, its flat! I'll be tuned in.
Cool, i have had an interest lately on hiking the A.T. and fl. Tr. Just saw this post. Cant wait to follow your trip. I live in naples really close to big cypress preserve. Close to where you will come out of your first 30 miles to i 75.
Nice to see you back. Old distance runner and trekker from Navarre here... looking forward to your experience on this trail... totally enjoyed your AT vlogs. Thanks for posting and good luck... the older i get the less exotic i find that the trips must be to generate interest. Sometimes a walk around the block can be an adventure! Is it age? wisdom? feebleness?
Great to see you back. Loved your thru hike of AT. Still have your original gear list for the AT in my notes...ha. Hoping to section or thru hike the AT in 2025. Durston is supposedly coming out with a X-Mid Pro 2+ on October 25. Not sure what thats about. Good luck on Florida Trail....be nice to see some of the Circus join you !!! Also, curious to to what you vlog and edit with if you can share. Thanks!
Thanks for the support! I’m still working on getting the Circus out there. We’ll see. Right now I’m just using my iPhone for video and the iMovie app for editing. That’s what I used on the AT also.
Great to see you back, Ian. If you hike the FL Trail in the winter, you might get the Flying Circus to go along with you. I loved the camaraderie of that blended-age group. Look forward to following you again. *adjusts La-Z-Boy to full recline* Mac
Yeah, unfortunately they can’t get away from school in January/Feb. Plus, it would take a little bit of extra convincing to get them to the FT. They’ve got the Colorado Trail in their sights.
I always meet people right after they cross the St Marks River. I can give you instructions when you get there. You can also tell me your needs and for how many.
@@worthheadingnorth2297 please do, I’ll be following along watching the videos. But keep in touch. Last year I did the first 10 miles from Fort Pickens southbound well I guess actually eastbound lol
I followed you on your '21 AT hike and made my own attempt in '22 (I only made 1800 miles before my knees gave up on me). Looking forward to following you on the Florida Trail!
@@worthheadingnorth2297 I'd just gotten over the Kinsmans and it was clear that my knees weren't going any further. Hobbled into Franconia Notch and headed to an airport. I hadn't started the hike with the goal of making it all the way. I was just hoping to go as far as I could and to accomplish something significant. I felt I did that so I'm good! On another note, I've been using the Durston X-Mid 2Pro lately and I think you'll be pleased with yours. I'd been using the ZPacks DupleXL on the AT and really never was happy with the doors during any kind of rain/wind. Unfortunately that Durston tent wasn't available when I was preparing for the AT. (I do have couple of his SilPoly tents which I love). I've been using my X-Mid Pro2 with the full sized MSR Groundhog stakes (the mini's on the doors) and it's been quite solid. Good luck on the trail!!
Enjoyed your AT videos, so will check out your FT videos. Personally, FT has too many creepy crawlies, snakes and gators for me. No interest here, but will enjoy seeing what you get into.
Starting Nobo around the same time ! Didn’t rlly plan on doing this one either jus randomly goin for it with my friend who did it last year , see ya out there 🤟🏻
I followed your AT journey all the way to Katahdin in '21. Also watched KellyHayes23 (Nine Lives) hike the AT in 2021. I followed her as she did the Florida Trail early this year and vlogged it. I'll be watching your journey north on the FT!
OMG so excited about your plans! Homemade Wanderlust did the trail and had a series of videos. She does post hike videos that are probably helpful too. 8:09
It was good talking to you and Fresh Ground. You made great videos and I paid homage to you quite often with my own “Heading North”. I made sure to give you credit for it because I didn’t want to plagiarize like some people do… Give Fresh Ground a hard time, he needs it!
Welcome back, Ian. Wow, the Florida trail, Lots of luck and I will follow. I just purchased an RV and will be doing lots more vids so if you are bored check it out. George
