Our Cooper is the only one of three Westies we have that watches TV. He’s especially interested in dogs, and that’s not really surprising. But he also becomes very concerned when humans act as though they’re in trouble. Heavy breathing, showing strong emotions, crying, etc. Kind of amazing, really.
Oh my gosh my Scottie loved TV with animals, especially dogs. She could even recognize dogs when they were just cartoons. It was amazing. Loved the video.
That is sooooo cute. It's amazing how all dogs share similar behaviors but they also have their own unique characteristics. He's a sweetie pie for sure!
My westie passed away under anaethetic 6 weeks ago. He was only 5. I've cried every day since then. The light in my life has disappeared. Rest well my sweet little fella Herbie. Treasure westies, they are the best.
+rob p I'm so sorry for your grief, just thinking about when I may lose my 8yr old Westie, Barney, in the future can bring a tear to my eye. We know we will usually outlive our pets - it's the almost inevitable part of pet ownership - but it doesn't make their loss any bearable. I'm sure you have wonderful memories of your boy and with time those memories will make you smile, rather than cry. I sincerely wish you happier times for the future.
I am so sorry. PLEASE PLEASE consider asap getting another one ( better still 2 ! ) as it is NOT disrespectful and you will STILL have all your fantastic memories but you, as a great Owner, can fill the void to giving a lovely home to another one and it will stop any dwelling negatively.
I have had 5 and the longest fap was 3 weeks as I dwelt and was sad and then transferred all my rnergy into the new one. You still have all your wonderful memories of your lovely pet rob.
My Westie always watched TV. He would bark his head off at any animal - not just dogs. He often didn't like background music either. He had a great, happy, spoiled life and lived to be just over 14 years old. Best dogs but stubborn!! Love Westies!!
Just came across this video. I too had a westie named Molly who watched tv all the time. Infact she new the intro to certain shows or adverts that had animals in them. We had to let her go April '17 aged 18yrs. Miss her so much. That little dog gave me the best 18yrs of my life. Full of love. She will be a hard act to follow. I hope your little Molly still going stronge and still watching tv. 👩
So fascinating that the movie held his attention. I think it has to do with the jobs they were breed and used for. Besides hunting they were also used in herding cattle from the meadows and glens. They are a smart breed.
I am so sorry.Nroke mt heart when I lost my first one 20 years ago and I gor 4 Westies within 3 weeks which eased the pain 100%. PLEASE consider asap getting another one ( better still 2 ! ) as it is NOT disrespectful and you will STILL have all your fantastic memories but you, as a great Owner, can fill the void to giving a lovely home to another one and it will stop any dwelling negatively.
I just read your post sorr for your loss. I lost my westie around the same time u did same age. I had my daughter around the last 6 yrs of his life they had made a great bond when he passed I didnt want another right away I needed some time my wife became a dog lover when we started dating because it was a package deal. My daughter was 6 and she was devastated. We were both hurting and my wife found us a new pup and made me go pick one......... Best thing she could have done the great thing about it is you remember the good times of your old dog but know this new guy we have now hes 4 and totally different then our last dog but in a good way just different they all love you the same.
moe dawg Happy to here you picked up a new pal I also have A very energetic And Quite different one from the last can’t keep her out of the pool and she is a great Companion love Westies
My Norfolk Terrier does the same thing! He LOVES movies starring dogs. I watched the entire "Step Dogs" movie, which was awful, but he was loving it and I didn't have the heart to change the channel.
Our Westie Millie also loves watching TV... Although she almost gets too excited when watching nature programs! I've never heard about other breeds that do this.. not even other terriers.. Everyone just got to love Westies! =)
Our 11 year old westie watches t v all the time !!! She has her own full size chair she love and she recognizes the music from certain commercials that have dogs in them . When the music plays , she could be in the back bedroom and she'll run and sits in front of the t v waiting for the dog to come on so she can bark in recognition .
Westies are very intelligent but very nosey fur babies, there just such loving loyal gentle dogs with so much love. I adore the breed. And can have such a hatred for cats.
Our Scottish terrier used to watch Spongebob, on a regular basis. He would sit on the ottoman & stay glued to the tube, through the entire cartoon. LOL!
As the mama of a LWD I so enjoyed this! Your entertainment center is as bashed up as our windowsill (watching squirrels and the daily arrival of that darn Mailman!!!) Thanks for sharing. XO
My white and cream coloured Cairn Terrier Charlie (Westies were bread from Cairns) loves to watch TV , especially any animal, zoo or nature related movies. He also recognised specific advertisements featuring animals. There is one add featuring numerous dogs and cats but out of all of these animals he welcomes ALWAYS one specific dachshund with different noises /howling then looks around to see where his friend is . Once realising that he is gone/the add ended, he is so disappointed 😔 ❤️🐾
My wee westie Molly got put to sleep last year. They are an absolutely remarkable dog. I too loved watching this video although seeing other westies is always bitter sweet. My thoughts are with you. xx
last year i was taking care of a westie while the owners were on holiday and when any animal appeared on the television she would do the same as this one. Very funny. From what i see looking at these comments this seems to be quite common with this breed
My Westie will watch if he sees or hear dog on TV. But thet is only for a short bit... Westies are such cool dogs.. We love ours with every bit of love we have...Thanks for Posting!
I thought my Westie was the only one to watch TV! He loves nature programs - he recognizes David Attenborough's voice, and will run from the bedroom to the living room to watch. He can even tell which commercials are on by the music in them, and will run to see his favourites.
My mum has two Westies. One especially loves TV, barks at animals (esp horses and bears, no idea why!) but watches quietly certain human movies. The other week she watched Stallone's cheesy action film Cobra from start to end without taking her eyes off the screen, ears up and tail wagging during the action bits! Freaky to see, but funny! Took a pic but wish I'd videoed her!
And this is why i LOVE westies ! just look how perfect they are , they get involved , they react , they have something to say , and oh they are funny and so well behaved . Mine is a sweet little angel also . best doggies ever !
My cockapoos LOVE watching TV. Elli perks up and jumps in my lap whenever there's a movie on, and Teddy runs over whenever he hears a dog barking on screen. Sometimes he runs to the window and looks around like he thinks he has a visitor.
OMG!!! First of all I Just Love Animals, but my passion is for DOGS!! I couldnt believe the full attention that Sweetheart Molly had for that movie!! My dog passed about 4 yrs ago and miss him so very much!! Molly is so lucky and so is yr other cutie to have you for their Mom!! I guess it looked like she may have watched the whole movie and like a good mom you had the patience to let her watch it with no interruptions from you! How is Molly and also yr other cutie doing today? Hope all is well and you too, wonderful mom! Many Blessings to you and Stay Safe! 💞🐕🐾😊
Our Westie Grace loves watching tv. She can be outside sunning on the deck, hear a commercial that she knows has animals, runs inside thru the doggie door waiting to attack lol lol. Mind you, this is the same Westie that jumps in the air trying to get military helicopters as they fly low heading to the bombing range.
Lost my Westie this year..it’s our first Christmas without him and he would also watch movies..I swear all westies act the same as I’m watching these clips..he died on Saint Patrick’s day 2 months shy of turning 19.
I love this. My mom had a westie that liked watching billiards. When the ball went in the pocket he looked for it behind the tv. She got her first westie when I was 14 and had several. I have one as well thinking of getting another.
My westieWatched tv as well! We had to hold onto her collar when animal planet was on. She would go in the room right behind the tv, to see if the animals were there. What a riot! Other dogs that we have had never did this.
Many Westies are visually very acute. Our "Darwin" was fascinated with TV-- he loved Animal Planet. He also reacted to irregularities in humans. We have a videotape of him watching a Jay Leno "Iron Jay" skit back in the mid-1990s, and he went berserk! Our Westie puppy Tycho is also a TV watcher. We caught her watching NASCAR at just a few months old. LOL
Same, my westie starts barking when someone on the tv is crying 😂
Oh my gosh my Scottie loved TV with animals, especially dogs. She could even recognize dogs when they were just cartoons. It was amazing. Loved the video.

Treasure westies, they are the best.
Oh my goodness! you need another Westie or two! We have two. Can't imagine life without them!

Westies are VERY intelligent!! This little doggie knows what she likes! Thanks for the post! :)
I quite agree. They assimilate information very well.
Yes they're Awesome. 😄😄😄😄😄😄😄
My westie did the exact same thing whenever a dog appeared onscreen. He was so cute, especially when he tilted his head to the side.
My Westie loved watching the Westminister dog show with me. He would wait for the terriers and bark like crazy for his favorite. Love this video 🥰
Such an adorable Westie!
And yeah, they'll watch movies...they'll do whatever interests them! =]
My Westie always watched TV. He would bark his head off at any animal - not just dogs. He often didn't like background music either. He had a great, happy, spoiled life and lived to be just over 14 years old. Best dogs but stubborn!! Love Westies!!
Love how she gets comfy as she watches tv. My Westie loved Animal Planet. I still miss her.
She is so absorbed by the movie. Like she wants to understand so badly.
EXACTLY hahaha
I'm afraid my Westie had an accident the third Saturday he had accident he got too excited
Wow! Molly is very tuned in. She is adorable. I had 2 Westies in my past a father Buddy and son Wally.
Thanks for sharing! Love Westies!

My grandfather's Westie is the same way, except he barks a lot more.
WESTIES RULE !!!!
Once a Westie lover ---ALWAYS ONE !!
My Norfolk Terrier does the same thing! He LOVES movies starring dogs. I watched the entire "Step Dogs" movie, which was awful, but he was loving it and I didn't have the heart to change the channel.
Lori Thom my poodle used to watch basketball games when she was younger. She tried to chase the ball. LOL!
Our Westie Millie also loves watching TV... Although she almost gets too excited when watching nature programs! I've never heard about other breeds that do this.. not even other terriers.. Everyone just got to love Westies! =)
