I hope your heart heals some. I know my heart never completely healed. I believe this is because I gave it to my dog, and when she died, she kept a little piece.

Both our dogs have nice white coats. They use to get the brown fur around the mouth and feet. Some people say it is their saliva. I believe the brown fur went because we now use ceramic bowls and not metallic bowls.
Mine gets his dye on his beard and paws from the turmeric we add to his food. He licks his paws from time to time, so he transfers it. We think it gives him character and makes him cuter.

No, they just bite to itch not to hurt, it just randomly makes the feet look dirty. I know many people who own westies and the older westies always look like this
If they're nibbling at their paws, it's to satisfy an itch, usually from allergies. It happens at any age, not just older Westies and the staining is usually caused by dye transfer from the tongue to the itchy area. They usually get this dye from certain types of kibble. Westies tend to have a lot of health issues to include allergies to many different outside elements such as pollen and several types of grass. This is why they bite or nibble at their paws for comfort. My Westie is on Apoquel meds to suppress this discomfort.
My westie has staining on her eyes and mouth. How do you deal with that (if you do) and what shampoo do you use? I want to protect her skin but I want her coat white. Yours are smart and lovely....naturally...they're westies!!
Years ago I started giving my Maggie distilled water and not any water from the tap, from then on there was no issue with stains around her mouth. Not sure what to do for the fur around the eyes.
We had two Westies. 14 and 16 when I lost them to old age. They were my beautiful, fun loving babies. Miss them every day.
Love Westies also enjoys watching the problem solving and figuring out how to get the treats out very smart

It's just a bit of fun for the dogs. It doesn't hurt them. It shows that the dog can work out a simple puzzle and he gets a treat. Simple as that !!!
