My Westie loves watching tv especially seeing other animals and runs outside be he thinks they are outside barking My other Westies loved csi Vegas use to bark or sing the opening song WHO ARE YOU WHO WHO ANYTIME SHE HEAR IT ON THE RACIO OUT THE DOIR SHE WENT
Our youngest Westie Finley, loves the no longer popular police reality shows. He waits patiently for the K9 officer to be deployed so he can help him chase his quarry down. Lest you think he has a violent streak, he wouldn't let us watch the Superbowl because he really was upset about the tackling. This was like at about a year old.
I think it depends on the TV whether dogs can perceive the movie as motion or just a series of still images. A normal film is displaying 24 frames in a second. That's 24 consecutive still images. The human eye and brain retain a visual impression for about 1/30th of a second (Source: Google "human persistence of vision"), so anything close to 30 frames per second will look fairly smooth. It was also said that the minimum threshold for humans is 16 frames per second. But a dog's persistence of vision is different! It's said that the flicker fusion rate for dogs is estimated to be as high as 70 to 80 Hz. That means that for them to perceive video as actual motion, the video would need to be close to 70 frames per second! Lower than that will only look like a fast sequence of still images. But some TVs have a 100 Hz or 120 Hz display and they can interpolate new images between the actual frames in a video. This can make the motion in video appear smoother (albeit a bit unnatural depending on how advanced the technique is). If such interpolation tech is used, then a dog should be able to perceive the video as actual motion. A side note! Many light sources and displays modify the brightness of the lights by flickering the light on and off at a certain frequency. You can see this effect sometimes when you record a video. While humans perceive the flickering light as a continuous light that's just at a certain brightness level, dogs might see the flicker and it might be uncomfortable for them. So be mindful when purchasing a lamp!
One of my westies watched TV, and no matter where he was in the house, if he heard a dog food commercial or any other commercial with a dog in it, he'd run to the TV and watch. My other westie couldn't care less about TV.
My white and cream coloured Cairn Terrier Charlie (Westies were bread from Cairns) loves to watch TV , especially any animal, zoo or nature related movies. He also recognised specific advertisements featuring animals. There is one add featuring numerous dogs and cats but out of all of these animals he welcomes ALWAYS one specific dachshund with different noises /howling then looks around to see where his friend is . Once realising that he is gone/the add ended, he is so disappointed 😔 ❤️🐾
Our Westie Grace loves watching tv. She can be outside sunning on the deck, hear a commercial that she knows has animals, runs inside thru the doggie door waiting to attack lol lol. Mind you, this is the same Westie that jumps in the air trying to get military helicopters as they fly low heading to the bombing range.
My Westy, pictured, love to watch TV until war scenes came on or horses charging on the battlefield! Then he went nuts charging the television stand trying to attack the horses on the TV screen!
My Gigi loved to watch tv also. If she was in a different room and heard a certain commercial she liked she would take off running so she watch it. My baby died in March of cancer she was only seven years old. 😭
Westies are very intelligent but very nosey fur babies, there just such loving loyal gentle dogs with so much love. I adore the breed. And can have such a hatred for cats.
Our Cooper is the only one of three Westies we have that watches TV. He’s especially interested in dogs, and that’s not really surprising. But he also becomes very concerned when humans act as though they’re in trouble. Heavy breathing, showing strong emotions, crying, etc. Kind of amazing, really.
Our 11 year old westie watches t v all the time !!! She has her own full size chair she love and she recognizes the music from certain commercials that have dogs in them . When the music plays , she could be in the back bedroom and she'll run and sits in front of the t v waiting for the dog to come on so she can bark in recognition .
HILARIOUS!! Before I Knew What These Breed Of Dogs Were Calked...When I Was Younger I Called Them Granddaddy Dogs B/C Of Their Beards...Not This Breed Of Westies But Another Breed Of Them. I’m Seriously Thinking Of Getting One.
Lost my Westie this year..it’s our first Christmas without him and he would also watch movies..I swear all westies act the same as I’m watching these clips..he died on Saint Patrick’s day 2 months shy of turning 19.
OMG!!! First of all I Just Love Animals, but my passion is for DOGS!! I couldnt believe the full attention that Sweetheart Molly had for that movie!! My dog passed about 4 yrs ago and miss him so very much!! Molly is so lucky and so is yr other cutie to have you for their Mom!! I guess it looked like she may have watched the whole movie and like a good mom you had the patience to let her watch it with no interruptions from you! How is Molly and also yr other cutie doing today? Hope all is well and you too, wonderful mom! Many Blessings to you and Stay Safe! 💞🐕🐾😊
Adorable completely, a bit more docile would be preferable ! I need this in my mansion, for sure, along with a cute small girl!
