Installing a 2/4 drop on a 99-07 Silverado

  • It's time to tackle the rear suspension install on the UglyTruck, my 2000 Silverado 1500 extended cab. I lowered the front end last time with 2" Belltech drop spindles, and this time the back end comes down a total of 4 inches by installing some bolt-on drop hangers and shackles. All you gotta do is take off the bed to gain access (it makes things a lot easier) and move the fuel tank to the side for the driver's side install, which again, makes your life a lot easier. This process applies specifically to 1999-2007 Silverado and Sierra extended cab trucks, but overall a shackle and hanger install will look pretty much the same way on any kind of truck.

    When I started out, the stock 4L60 was blown, so the first thing I did was to swap to a 4l80e. After that, I cleaned up the exterior looks a little, swapped some later model wheels and tires, and then rebuilt the whole front suspension last and steering.

    Hey LT......Another great video! I love watching the fabrication, designing and welding in your builds! Now? I have to ask? What brand MIG welder do you have/use there? Amperage of the machine? and? what wire size do you use for "most" of your fab work?

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  Před 2 lety +1

      I use a Forney MIG welder that uses a 220v wall input (not positive of the output though, likely close to 200 amps) and for most general purpose welding I use 0.030" wire.

    • @GeorgiaHyway
      @GeorgiaHyway Před 2 lety +1

      @@LawrenceTolman I should have asked this with my first post but? do you use shielding gas (Argon-C02) or flux coated wire? I have never used just the flux coated wire myself. All my welding has been structural, either 7018 low hydrogen stick or dual shield MIG .045 up to 1" plate. Just had to ask because again....I always love to see welding and fabrication and what others do. @Lawrence LT Tolman Have you had any issues with bottoming out? I got my drop in and my driver side keeps bottoming out. I know they ride low on the drives side due the fuel tank weight but my truck used to be a farm work truck and im wondering if my springs are just riding low from wear and tear. with my bed on it seems like i may have and 1.5-2 inches of clearance WITHOUT the bump stop.

    • @LawrenceTolman
      @LawrenceTolman  Před 3 lety
