Driving Impressions 2/4 Drop Silverado

- It's time to put the UglyTruck back on the road. After completely re-doing the suspension and swapping the transmission, I am comfortable putting this 2000 Silverado back into the rotation for daily driver duty. Even if it has 326,000 miles on it, the engine still runs great, and with a stronger 4L80e transmission attached, we're ready for some upgrades in the power department.
Background: I started with a bone stock and neglected truck which had a blown 4l60e transmission when I first bought it. First, the transmission was taken care of by installing a stronger 4l80e, and then the entire front suspension was gone through, with new bushings, ball joints, control arms, wheel bearings, NNBS larger brakes, and a 2/4 lowering kit to round out the package. This time, the bed goes back on the truck, and its time to hit the road and see how all the upgrades work out together. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

I have a 2007 GMC Sierra 1500 classic crew cab that I picked up from my grandfather that is unable to drive. It has been sitting rotting in the Florida sun. Only had 58k miles on the 4.8. I replaced the dash that was turning to dust. Threw an intake on it and replaced every bulb with LED. I bought new carpet and new material to do the headliner. But before that I have some cab leaks to fix. One around the windshield on the drivers side and one around the back window on the drivers side. Plan on lowering it,wheels,music, paint, cam, headers exhaust and who knows what else. The options you have with these trucks are endless. Your channel and can do attitude are definitely motivating. Thank you.

I know the feeling dude. I got me a stray truck for 600$ and everybody thought I was stupid because of the way it looked but it was a solid truck. Haven't had a problem out of it. In the process of upgrading the rear diff now. It's a 2000 gmc sierra rcsb 2wd
keep em on the road! I don't care what they look like as long as they're mechanically sound

Excellent Video Ive got a 2001 5.3L Im wanting to do the same since its 2wd no since in doing the front leveling kit Id rather level the back to match the front height like you did. Mines got 205k on the dash but I bought it from original owner at 198k who was 75yrs young so he was 55 when he bought it brand new shes a 21yr old truck & can drink a beer now lol. He truly babied it and it feels almost new tbh super tight steering super smooth shift with Locked Rear end Dif he kept saying which I didn't understand at first but the Feller was no dummy. Im proud to have such a well built truck its truly a pleasure to have which I've had many used trucks this ones got the Clear coat going bad on the hood and roof 2 tone Navy Blue/ Champagne bottom but I think I'll go with all navy blue. Thank God I found this truck it had no pics since pops couldn't figure it out which allowed me the opportunity to be first one to look. God is Good

That's the same drop on my silverado extended cap runs good goes over bumps and railroad tracks like nothing and I also have the same 18s too

I gotta ugly truck you can work on 04 tahoe with a dented drivers door and left passenger door. I still love my truck but have no mechanical experience and im too scared ill mess something up or I would mess something up. Of course I was joking but this gave me motivation. Thanks LT
Hey LT, love the content so far. Could you provide me with shock info? I just swapped out the 2" coil spring for a new stock one and kept the 2" spindle up front. Im having a shakey steering wheel on bumpy roads but I'm guessing its due to the shocks being for a 4" drop. Im also going to be making the rear of my truck a 4" drop. Currently its a 6" and will also be replacing the shocks

These trucks are far from ugly to me. I own a 00 4.8
With 369k. It needs a lot of upgrades but still running well. Love your videos. Just wish I had more money to put into it. I do what's needed to keep it going though!

What size tires? Do they ever rub when turning? My 03 is lowered 2/4, i bought 18s and cant decide tire size. This looks great and i do want to fill the wells.

Laurence, Love the video's I'm picking up a 2000 GMC SLE 2wd tomorrow and wanted to know what year 4L80e to look for?
Does it use the same wiring or does one have to have the TCM reprogrammed?
Ideally, look for one that’s the same year as your truck, but really any of em will work. On my stepside, I used a 1994 model 4l80. There are a few slight wiring changes needed, and you will have to get the PCM a tuned to operate the 80e

Not necessarily, with the overdrive ratio and the taller tires, the RPM wont be that bad, less than 3,000 at 80mph. But I wanted to give it a lot of help in the acceleration department.

nope, still no c notch and it doesnt really bottom out all that much unless you put a load of dirt in the bed or something like that.
Man honestly how much worse does it ride from stock. I've owned many slammed trucks when young but want to do just a 2/4 on my silvy cateye. But I don't want to be bouncing and banging around. Seem my 05 2wd already seems to ride stiff and heavy in front. Way worse then my Yukon w torsion bars did. Please respond with as much input as possible. Thanks Bud.

Does the axle bottom out ? I live in michigan so I'm thinking I might have to do the c notch with all these potholes
it does on bigger bumps, but with the bump stops its really not too harsh

Hey LT just did my 2/4 drop on 06 Silverado but rear hits axle and front hit top of wheel well, have you encountered any of those issues?
If I go over a large bump at a higher speed, the front tires will rib on the fender slightly, but its only ever happened like 3-4 times. on the back, if I put a heavy load in it, it will sit on the bump stops, but the rear tires have never hit the body. Its running 265/65/18 tires on stock 2014 wheels btw...

Did you need to use the NNBS drop spindles when you upgraded the brakes?
no, the brakes pretty much interchange from 1999 even up to 2020 trucks

no, I ran it this way for a year with no C-notch... it would bottom out from time to time, but wasn't too bad

Yessir. Same as the 2wd trucks

I'm using stock shocks up front and back, but out back I am running shock extenders
What camera and mic set up do you have?
a GoPro Hero (2018) with an Amazon corded mic. super basic and inexpensive, but the quality could be better in lower light conditions.

theyre stock 18x8 (pretty sure 8" wide) from a 2014 Silverado

not sure what they are called, but they're Stock 18" wheels from a 2014 Silverado, but they were used stock on a lot of 2014-2018 Silverados, Suburbans, and Tahoes.

probably, it should be almost identical to the 265/65/18 on this 2/4
I had it on a 4/7 drop an it rubbed some on bumps

yes, the 1500HD takes a different part than a 1500, and is more like a 2500HD than a 1500
