Dude that was freaking ballse I don’t think I could cut into my $40,000+ truck but great job. It looks fantastic. Congrats.
Thanks man. Kinda did it as encouragement for others that are a bit shy to cut up there truck. Was kinda glad I showed my mistakes so that others can think if he did it so can I lmao
Damn
@@THEYGOTYUH got my 2019 zr2 for 46k in canada. Wife hates it. I love it. Traded a 2015 duramax high country in on it
Was thinking about getting one but was afraid of getting wind noice, glad to hear you didn’t notice any.
Yea none dude. I almost expected it and just said screw it who cares if it does. So was very pleased to find that it didn’t
I really like how you almost do it live, you make mistakes and you say what a dummy. These are the type of videos I enjoy. Keep them coming Carlos. See you on the trail soon
Thanks Steve. Yea haven’t seen enough of you. And yea I think people watching me make mistakes helps to encourage others without proper training or tools to try it themselves.
I make mistakes all the time, but the building and fabricating never ends. Always making changes. I’m hoping I finish the prerunner bumper and adding 1/2” more lift clearance to front end tonight and tomorrow do I can make a run Sunday to see how it all works
Lol hell yea man. And yea just gotta keeep trying
I did this to mine back in October. That little foam piece fell out of mine as well. It adds to the look and functionality of the truck very much so. I had another fender in my shopping cart in case I messed it up... but it worked out! Good job man!
Lol. Awesome man. Glad you tried it. Stupid foam piece lol
Finally the video I was looking for with this snorkel. I was really concerned about wind noise and I couldn't get a straight answer. Love your videos, keep it up.
Thank you buddy. I was concerned too but figured who cares it’s so much fun on the dirt I’ll love with it’s drawbacks on the road. Pleasantly surprised to know that it’s nothing but upside for this mod
I dont think anyone in the comments mentioned that you should paint the exposed metal..... xD
I get anxiety from all the drilling and cutting into a new car, thanks for taking the plunge!
Good video, really like this channel!
Absolutely getting painted today
One of the best videos on CZcams
Damn man thank yiu
Have to appreciate the way you approached this project
Thanks for the informational video, it's going to help me take the plunge very soon for my install on the Colorado!
Oh awesome man. Good luck
A great heads up on the install. Being a licensed body-man, I feel confident doing it, but having a heads up on steps is always welcome. 🍺. My Bison and I thank you
Hell yea man thanks
I would put the inlet for the snorkel on backwards In reverse Facing towards the back of the truck because I know where I live in Florida we got such heavy downpours that would probably start sucking in rainwater
Yea I was curious about the first day cause the rain. Won’t be a problem in Southern California but yea that sounds like a good idea depending on use and climate
Hell yea, clicked on this video so quick!
Lol thanks man
Nice video, it was enjoyable to watch. Quick note about MPG though: ram air cannot increase your mileage because you will restrict (or throttle) the intake with the throttle body anyway. All ram air will do is cause you to use a little less throttle opening for the same amount of air and fuel. Exhaust can help MPG for sure because it isn’t throttled. Ram air can get you more power for sure, but that’s at wide open throttle. Also cold air is great for power but efficiency is actually better with higher air inlet temperature as long as it doesn’t get so hot that you have to pull timing from pinging.
Oh wow ok. Not gonna pretend I’m qualified to debate any of that lol. Also what I have noticed is that the computer guesses your mpg half the time depending on your driving style. Everything from distance till empty to mpg. There are times that we go through more than one full tank offroading and by the time we fill up again and head home the computer says we have 230miles till empty with a full tank. So I’m not sure how accurate my statement is anyway just going by what the truck said. But no one buys toys concerned about mpg right. Lol. Thank you for the education. Actually have heard it’s the other way around though as far as fuel efficiency. When temps go up pass a certain point performance is effected negatively as well as mpg. But that has more to do with engine temps than intake temps I guess. I’m just glad to have more power lol
@@420motors The air intake temp and efficiency is a theoretical prediction and would have many practical limitations like pre-combustion and burning exhaust valves which means the computer will richen the mixture to protect the engine and there goes your mpg and power, so you are right about the extremes. My point was I don't think the intake air temperature difference between the snorkel and factory intake on the freeway (where heat soak isn't an issue) would affect MPG. Off road, towing and super high ambient temperatures could mean cooler air gives better MPG and for sure power so I'm kind of walking back that statement. Thanks for reading and keep up the videos.
Yea man and thanks for the insight. Love viewers getting info that’s beyond me through the comments. Never ashamed of not knowing, only shame would come from resistance to new info.
You did a great job! You also showed me enough to know that it would be a terrible idea for me to attempt the installation on my own. I have a 2018 ZR2 with the duramax, I’m am also interested in the new underbody skids that they let you buy from the bison package aftermarket. Keep up the content and keep it dirty
Lol yea man I think you’ll be alright. I’m glad the bison has them and it is a good upgrade but I’m too stingy to upgrade before I bash in my current ones
Can't wait to get one for my new black ZR2 Bison. Just took delivery of it two fridays ago but currently have it getting ceramic coated. Also I spoke with AEV and they are coming out with more accessories besides the snorkel in early April. Great video and well done, I'm not sure I have the balls to do it myself
Lol. You’ll be fine buddy. At the end of the day it’s just a fender. But yea I understand it’s scary
@@420motors true! Well done man. Great video. I don't do videos but I may have to for the bison.
Yea you do man
I love the vice grip used as a jack handle! lol. Keep up the great videos!
Lmao. Yup. Low budget
Good stuff bro! Thanks for keeping it real on the DIY Mods tip. It’s nerve racking cutting holes and permanently altering your vehicle! Ive been there many times! Definitely paint to match the hose clamp on the snorkel. Keep em coming!
Lol yea man thanks. Actually surprised that it ended well lol. Usually you end up just living with battle scars
You are a confident man! That first drill man, that hurt me! LOL
Lmao. I cut it out. But after every hole I said fuck or shit. Lmao. It sucked man. But whatever. Figured if I got into trouble just tape it up and pay someone to install it. That how all my do it yourself jobs start lol. Save up for a pro just in case. And then roll up your sleeves.
@@420motors It sure does look great!
Thanks man
Good video man! Love to see good parts being throw at the zr2
Thanks man. Got some more coming too. Ordered the aev wheels and the pro 6 lights
That’ll be good looking!
Yea thanks man. Not an original look. But those are the parts that I liked.
420 motors yeah if I get one I’d like to do that look too
Great share brother. A lot more cutting than I thought.
Lol. Yea. I underestimated the cutting also. But the rest of it was easier than I expected
Yeah, modifying perfectly good sheet metal always causes some trepidation, but the results are usually worth it. I definitely would have laid down some rust protection (paint, silicone) around those raw edges, including the rivet holes.
Yea. I’m gonna have to go back and do that. I can drill out the rivet holes and replace them no problem. Removing the fender liner doesn’t have to be 100percent to get to the effected areas. Where were you guys last week lmao.
Great video bro. Especially from someone who never did it before.. 👍🏽
Lol thanks man
Just picked up my Bison might have to wait for awhile before I take a holesaw and drill to her but thank you for the video.
Lol. Hell yea man. How you like her. Also how are the dealers treating the buyers. Any markups or run arounds or just the same as the zr2
@@420motors No issues as long as you do your homework before you buy. She cost the same as a ZR2 Midnight edition can't wait to get out in the woods. Please keep the vids coming rookies like me need them. lol
Lol. That’s why we started man. We were rookies and couldn’t find anything good as far as info. Everything was either useless or beyond us. Trying to keep something that has value for all ranks. And damn glad to hear the dealers aren’t getting crazy with the bison.
Very surprised that snorkel didn’t come with or recommend a sealant /gaskets, where you drilled holes. That’s exactly where it will rust and water damage
Yea honestly that’s so obvious I’m sure it’s in the litterateur but I just started getting to work when I opened the box. It’s east to get back in there. I won’t need to take the wheel off
Looks good, good job!
Thank you sir. And thanks for watching
Was wondering about this product; thanks for taking the hit and showing us what a nice product it is... Skid plates next? I also like the rear bumper they do (not so much the front one)
No bumpers or skid plates yet but skids soon. Got the wheels from them and some kc pro 6 lights. Then gonna order from the Chevrolet performance catalog
@@420motors the beadlock wheels they offer are damn nice, and ditto on the chevy performance suspension goodies👍
Yea. Ordered all 6 and getting a tire rack made
Get the prefilter from AEV now and no more dust worries. They say the main benefit is running dusty roads and secondary benefit is river fording
Oh sweet. Looking into it thanks
Hell ya!!! Clean air is the way to be.
Hell yea
Braver man thsn me brother, I own an 07 4runner and I'm a bit weary of drilling into it. Great video as always
Lol thank you. I hear you but honestly if I messed it up would just be a replacement fender. The abuse I give the truck on the weekends is way worse so think of like that if it helps you with the courage. Lol
@@420motors Valid point. I probably baby mine to much, but I'd like to get an actual suspension before hitting the trails hard. Enjoying your videos, I know your putting unnecessary stresses on them but it seems a lot of viewers enjoy watching you legitimately test them...sick of professional channels say here we go offroad, then drive down a smooth dirt road lol. Seriously keep it up!
Lmao. Well it’s also cause everyone in our videos are all private owners. The big shows and channels have to return those vehicles to someone at the end of the day. What you driving. Most don’t need a boat load of money to have fun offroad. Using them is the expensive part regardless of what the vehicle started as
@@420motors 07 Toyota 4runner v8 4x4. I've added tires, lights, roofrack and fixed it so it runs well. That's what separates you from those other channels, yall are legit not giving biased reviews for the dealer who loaned you the truck!
Damn man those things take a beating. I think it’s time to start enjoying lol. Thanks man
Nice work and video.
Thank you man. Got another one coming up where we integrate the chevy performance air filter to the snorkel
Dude when you said " man that SUCKED", I was just saying the same thing lol. Awesome video. Over all good but you should look into an all in one bottle jackstand, they're pretty awesome! Look them up on Amazon or if yall have a tractors supply out that way.
Yea man. I’ll look those up. But shoot even for gear would be wise to have at least one jackstand in the rig. Tire changes are common on the dirt. Flat terrain to safely use a Jack not so much
@@420motors check your IG message I sent you a pic. I use this off road it has a flat plate on the bottom which helps a lot on loose ground.
Awesome man thanks.
Do a video on the AEV Bison fender flares install
I want to but probably won’t purchase them cause I don’t want tire size upgrades. Need to finish the rubber on what I got. I would chop them up for you but AEV are good people and wouldn’t ask them for a hand out. If I get my hands on some I’ll definitely do it for you guys
Did you silicone or paint all the cut edges? If not it will rust. Good job though.
Na I forgot. Gonna go back and do it.
Still waiting for them to release the skid plates . . .
Yes. Soon don’t give up.
triggerjerk01 I’ll bet the skid plates are probably half the price of the Bison package.
Actually the bison package is pretty well priced when you consider the cost of upgrading a zr2 into a complete bison. We don’t have a need for all equipment on the bison so it makes sense for us to be selective about the mods. But yea I believe there is a savings to just buying the whole package. Unless your talking base zr2 with bison goodies then your getting an inexpensive all business off-roader.
Very cool ! 👍👍👍👍
Thank you buddy
Compa deberías de poner un taller ...😎 te quedo al 100
Lmao. Viva Mexico mods
Hey man, love the videos but I have a question and I have not been able to clarify anywhere, you see I am from Costa Rica and I want to get my hands on a Colorado, we do not have the zr2 here of course :( but the z71 is the top trim, however the dealer claims that the diesel(only motor we get) has 200 hp & 500 pounds pounds of torque, all information I can find is from the american version, 181 hp and 350~ torques, I was wondering if you could shed some light or where I can find more info? Thanks btw
Some do funny math when they convert to the metric system away from pounds. That being said from I’ve learned I believe that the Costa Rica Colorado are different versions than what we have in the states. Can’t find solid info on it but something about them being made in Thailand but I’m not completely sure.
@@420motors thanks man, I will keep looking into it and that btw that snorkel looks awesome, keep up the great vids!
Oh man thank you
Man Chevy really makes it a pain to do things like this. Just saying compared to other makes and installing snorkels. Did u use a metal blade on the the dermal?
Naw. Is that better. From what I understood the revolutions is what makes it unusable. Gets too hot. But it was the easiest way to cut
420 motors I don’t know what Dremel u had but the one I have had adjustable speed. On the tacomas u need to cut two big holes then cut the center out. The wheel that I used didn’t pull the paint like urs did. Maybe the speed and the metal wheel is what made the difference idk? But it looks good man. Came out clean
That could be. Mine does have adjustable speed but I didn’t even mess with it. Since I was warned about it and my first attempt proved then right. I just gave up lol
It would be almost worth buying a fender from a junkyard and cutting into that. I like the desert intake but the thought of cutting into my baby just doesn't feel right.. lol.
Actually that is an idea. But paint matching would be a pain.
@@420motors not if you can source the right color...
Yea. But most aren’t dumb enough to sell a painted fender for cheap lol
@@420motors well I'm sure pick a part doesn't have it.
Lol
its the terror of cutting or drilling that keeps me from doing this. I had to pay someone to drill for my roof rack-which was a good thing because of that damned UHSS cobalt steel, even my bodyshop didn't have a proper drill to get thru it. Did you need anything special to get thru the A pillar?
Nope. It went through pretty easy. The hardest part was keeping a straight line when cutting out the big hole. Fender starts wobbling as you get closer to completing the cut
Love your videos. After watching the videos on the ZR2, I really want one now. Since your in Southern Cali, do you have a recommendation on a dealer and sales guy to talk to?
Yea I can set you up with the best prices in your area or even do find you the exact vehicle you want. Please email me at jerkstoleourname@gmail.com
Sweet thanks man. @@420motors
For sure man thanks for watching
I just got the bison it's a lease Chevy told me they wont install it for me. Saying it could affect my warranty? Did aev tell you different about the warranty for a lease?
Lol no man never heard different. Actually call another dealer. Every dealer is different and if your willing to pay gm labor cost you will find a dealer that can install it and keep your warranty. If your having trouble e mail me and I’ll help you look. Ours is a lease also but I wouldn’t do the snorkel if your not prepared to buy it after or pay for the “damages”. Also where are you and why won’t you let us record your truck lol
Thanks
it'a becoming a BISON 👍😊
Lol. Almost man. Wheels coming next and pro 6 lights
@@420motors nice video man. will wait for those mods
what was the reason for the big holes if you just cut the whole panel out anyway
Just for the corners to have a rounded edge
thanks. you in corona? do you install tires and lifts?
Yea in corona but no we don’t have a shop. Just like having fun driving.
@@420motors right on keep posting the vids are awesome
Thank you
Good vid and instal. But all of that dough for an aftermarket performance part and they give you a stainless hose clamp to hold the flat black performance part together.... AEV do better.....details matter.
Others do get a black one. I must have gotten a dud.
@@420motors who's looking at the hose clamp anyway? cover it up in mud
Lol
Saving up for a ZR2 of my own, which dealership did you go to, im based out of Diamond Bar, thanks! Your offroad vids are sick
Thank you. I have a preferred one that I like in Buena Park but there is one closer to you. Let me know if I can help email me at jerkstoleourname@gmail.com. I’ll give you the names of the sales people that we know there
@@420motors I dont mind the drive if it's a better deal, that email though haha!
Lmao. Yea man. It’s true
Buena Park 👍 great dealership.
Thanks for the video Carlos, I've been flip flopping on the AEV kit since they came out. I think you just cost me about $800. What's up with the Taco trolls?
Lol. Those stupid trolls. I like them though they help with engagement. Hard to anger them enough to keep coming back but not defeating them at the same time lol. I believe it was less expensive than that though.
15-17mpg with the gas? Ouch. I have the diesel ZR2 and my absolute worst tank from 2 weeks of stop and go, no highway was 23mpg (hand calc).
Damn. Yea those diesels get good numbers
No painting where u cut? To avoid rusting
lol. I guess I should have right. Damn. Easy to do for me. But yea should have added that
Where is your K&N air filter?
I’m still running the stock air filter
Damn I'd have a hard time cutting a hole like that in the bodywork of a truck priced like that.
Lol. I know man. It’s all good though. That’s what there for. Should have mentioned that it was a lease lmao. Not any more I guess
Will this work with a 2004 uncladded Avalanche?
Steps are similar enough but I doubt the parts are the same. There is modularity with the h3 and the zr2 so worth looking into for the avalanche
Random question for ya. If you had to pick which would you think would be better for offroading a lifted chevy tahoe 4-6inches with 33s or a silverado with same lift and tires.
To clarify a 2nd gen tahoe. As much as I love and want a zr2 the towing capacity isnt there for what I want.
I think the Silverado would do better. But that’s not based on science lol.
I was thinking the longer wheel base and departure would make the silverado less suitable but I figured you guys would have good ideas with wheel base and the truck beds offroad
Us the weight is where the advantage would be I would think. Also center of gravity. But I’m sure both can do fine. Just might get higher speeds with the pick up truck.
It is not a snorkel it's a desert air intake
Completely correct. But it is listed as a snorkel on there website.
A snorkel is not worth cutting my truck. Looks good though man.
Lol thanks man. Two years ago I would have agreed with you. But when your on the dirt every weekend. Then yea I don’t mind doing offroad only modifications. I would not recommend it as an esthetic upgrade for anyone. I see I as an offroad tool only
The Ram 2500 Power Wagon is a truck that oozes confidence. With its beefy two-speed transfer case, locking diffs, disconnecting anti-roll bars, and winch, it's a truck that doesn't shy away from obstacles. You're always looking for what's next, and you know the Ram can handle it.
During the worst of the TLH, when the Colorado was skipping over bumps and the Raptor was sliding sideways, the Ram tracked straight and true. The Power Wagon's Bilstein monotube shocks aren't as fancy as the Raptor's Fox shocks or ZR2's Multimatic dampers, but you can't tell from behind the wheel. The ride is slightly stiffer, mostly because of its size and higher payload capacity, but it's never punishing. The Power Wagon always grips no matter what stands in its path. Focus on your line. The Ram has everything else handled. It's the right truck for the terrain we encountered on the entirety of the Trans-Labrador Highway. -Seabaugh
Yeah we know a guy with one, but last time we tried to get it on video, he didnt show up
Lol 2 guys now lol
@@samcarter4875 so rather than invite him again you somehow think it's some kind of victory. lol
@@420motors So i guess you win some kind of prize. lol i simply forgot about it. You can tell your buddies i chickened out. lol
Not at all, you're always welcome.
You only get 15mpg average? My 2018 I average about 18.5 mixed driving, got 24 on a highway trip.
Offroading kills your milage
@@420motors definitely! I guess when Im off road I get about 15, I was thinking that was your overall mpg. That trip I got 24 was through the mountains here in CO so still kinda surprised. Keep up the good videos! Should make a ZROG group for all of us.
Yea got a buddy that started one. I definitely want to start making zr2 runs though
The elephant kit
Lmao. I’ll wear the dumbo badge proudly as its flying
And ironically it rains getting rain in the intake.
Lol. Seriously
You don't get rain in the intake, there are slots where the clamp is that are to allow for drainage...
Yea I saw that but wasn’t certain. Also I was confident they engineered for that or it’s basically a rain collector right.
@@420motors , yeah.
The one you mentioned painting black.
And I had this on my jeep before the ZR2 and it does increase performance whether the naysayers believe it or not.
I will silicone the tube to tube connection under the fender and to the air box.
Whenever I get around to it.
I do a lot of water and mud holes here in the midwest.
Lol. Yea it’s dry here so I have some more time. But definitely need to go back and do some rust prevention. Even as much as drilling out those rivets and redoing them. I always get excited and just want to go out and test it
Now let’s go test it and drive it into Azusa water lol 😂
Lol. I’m ready to drive to Hawaii in case the green new deal ever comes back.
You called yourself an idiot, but you're smarter than me. I'm sure not trying it!
Lol. Maybe your smart enough not to try
i want!!!
Man that hurt me seeing you do that!
lol. Yea it was rough man
Tomato tomato right
Yes lol
Why would you need the snorkel unless you’re doing river or deep water runs? 🤔 ummm
JACK STANDS FOR SAFTEY! Automotive 101.
Yea. My bad lol. Actually considering getting one for the dirt too. You rarely get a flat on even dirt. Put the wheel under the truck for that but yea still not a jack stand
Dude, what happened to your thumb?
Lmao. Some other do it yourself job that I did wrong.
Kelly here from Hawaii using wifes FB. Wouldn't cold air intake PART NO. 84535312 do the same job without all of the drilling and cutting? Snorkel is iffy for deep water crossing. If you get that deep you would probably be floating.
As always great vid.
On nokian video you said that the stock rims would work with 32s without rubbing did I hear that right?
Oh yea. I believe so. Stock wheels should be ok with those tires. And yea the snorkel not really used for water crossing and it gets much more air with the snorkel.
Always used jack stands, never trust a hydraulic jack.
Solid point that’s why I put the wheel under for safety. Not a jack stand I get. But yea addressing that issue
this was so hard to watch
Lol
Way way too much work.lol
Lol
