Nice to see a first gen ZR2 I had one for 9 years just recently bought it newer one this video really makes me miss Michigan!
Nice build on the ZR2. Can't wait to finish mine. Keep up the good content
Can’t wait till sat to get my 2.8 zr2 the 2.8 makes it look so easy
4:43 crushing that chunk of ice was oddly satisfying.
Need to get lots of drone footage on a spring trip! can't wait
Ernie Myslinski you’re hired!
Great video, I need to add Drummond to my list; typically wheeling Kawartha's in Ontario.
its an amazing place to 4x4..
plan a longer trip one weekend isn't enough to explore the trails
I've made my mind up because of this. I'm going loaded Bison with your topper. Thanks again ( i need that locking topper too)
Jason Panozzo we bettter have you at the next trip in the Spring! Congrats!!! Coloradofans.com urs6e24 is me
@@CarsCatsCannabis I won't be able to get into my Bison until September so im wondering if my 16' z71 trail boss dusk edition would make it...oh wait that s10 was there
@@jasonpanozzo3317 It would be fine on most of the trails, they are glorified dirt roads. Some of the high-clearance stuff we do would not be possible in a Z71 without lockers.
That s10 is a champ
Manual transmission, 4.3V6 Iron block, G80 rear locker, hidden winch, was super clean!
I loved my 2000 s10 zr2 5speed
It would everywhere you pointed it
Would still own it if it hadn’t rusted completely away on me
Wish the new zr2 Colorado’s came with a manual
That looked like a lot of fun ! Love the ZR2 .
Looking forward to the spring video!! I love my GMC Canyon with the 2.8 diesel. Are those your buddies or do you guys find each other through a club? It's hard to get my friends to do trips like these.
T C We are coloradofans.com forum members and met that way, we all took our stock trucks to Drummond last year at this time and have done several trips this year as a group. Great group of people.
this is the first video of yours ive found.. literally hit sub the second i heard you say the channel name.
thanks so much! big trip coming up so stay tuned
The diesel is very nice, but I still prefer to have the gas engine. I like that 8 speed transmission to much. With the right exhaust you can make it sound just beast as it looks.
Should come up to Ontario 🇨🇦, I’ll show you around. I’d like to come visit these trails and the dunes as well sometime!
absolutely!
Cool video!
I just bought my zr2!!!!
congrats! now get off road!
What's your first impression?
Congrats
This is a good one. Thanks for sharing. Headed to Utah for turkey day. Should have some good video soon.
Thank you! What vehicle do you have? ZR2 as well?
Yes. 2018 ZR2 v6. Love this truck.
That thumbnail is a beautiful sight. Badass! My poor sissy LT Colorado 😭😭😭
Perfect balance of talking and silent audio. Really fun to watch
@@Oozywolf Trying to strike that balance, I do not like videos with music that ruins the experience I'm trying to give my viewers of being there with me and really seeing what the place is like.
im totally going to buy a ZR2 as soon as i pay down my 2018 Focus ST some more(which i bought while living down 4miles of rugged dirt rds lol). These trucks are badass. Also i love that custom tube bumper thing around the truck...you can smash through all kinds of trees and crap..
EDIT: Have you guys seen the new front end coming out for the 2021 ZR2? looks pretty awesome.
Thanks for watching! Make sure to get a Bison edition. I sold this truck and traded for a ZR2 Bison because, from the factory, it is ready to go, you don't have to do anything to it. A ZR2 is as well but not in the same league of peace of mind. The Bison has thousands of dollars in steel bumpers, tube protection and skid plates. Its worth waiting/finding a Bison. The new ZR2 is sweet, too! Bison all the way haha
on yours did you have to do any trimming to get the 33's to fit, i know this is 4 years old but... i just got a 2018
depending on the brand you may have to do some trimming, yes.
How many miles are on your 2.8 now?
Had to sell it :(
Which truck is your favorite or would you like to know more about? Diesel or Gas?
I love my gasser but love your setup bro.
What are the cons of the gas version and the diesel version?
Gas
@@catastronot5286 Gas Pros- better transmission cooling / temps, more power, less cost of fuel, less up front cost. Gas cons- fuel economy (~100 miles/tank less range)
Diesel- Pros- torque, fuel economy, longevity (debatable) Cons- Emissions stuff (solved if you delete), cost more up front and for fuel. Basically only get a diesel if you a a big diesel guy and if you are on the fence you'll love the gas, honestly. All the rigs I wheel with are gas 90% of the time and do fantastic and have lower trans temps than my diesel. Yes, I have much longer range but is it worth the extra cost? Up to you.
Diesel
...been checkin out your flix
Witch trail was this?
When idling and trail driving any difference is fuel from gas to diesel?
How much did you have to trim out?
Was the diesel in 4 low or high? Just curious
brandon Cordero I was in 4 hi for a couple, you could hear the difference
Do you need 4WD to do this? Or with the right equipment could you do it with 2WD
you 1000% need 4WD for this....
Just got a Z71 Colorado with the V6 Gas.
Any tips of what you would upgrade first for offroad/mudding? Bumper, suspension, tires, etc?
Probably lift kit, to get extra clearance in approach and departure angles and bigger proper off road tires.
@ I got myself a 3.5inch lift!
Where did you get them wrap around front bumper pipebars im looking for one for my zr2? anyone?
It was custom and the workmanship was terrible, it was scrap after a month or two
@@CarsCatsCannabis cool thank you bro, have a good day Sir 🤙
How are the Eibach springs?
I don't have them, this is a ZR2, stock suspension other than 1" level in front. They are heavier springs and would put the position sensitive damper in a different position than stock, negatively effecting the shock's performance.
How is the truck in the snow?
Ben Roberts it is great, lockers help always and tires are important. 4” lift and 35” tires going on in spring
Cars, Cats & Cannabis where did you find a 4” ZR2 lift? Also, any long term updates of the full delete?
Kevin Alberts BDS makes one, it just came out. Delete is great, no problems after 27k miles in the delete. 37k on truck.
I have a 18 Zr2 the next time your close to the Great Smokie Mtns contact me and we will do some trails anyway love the Videos keep em coming
Cars, Cats & Cannabis I googled it shortly after posting, quite a cool kit! I have never thought of myself as a 20” rim guy, but the lift might make me one!
More videos of the gas ZR2!
Jevon Shepherd that’s me, we try to do videos of every trip! Take a look at my channel if you’d like
👍👍👍👍
What tune did you go with so you could do a full delete?
@jonathan klein Jason Hackler tuned it, he was the first to have a delete tune for these in 2016, he has over 2 million miles on his tunes cumulatively and I am very happy with mine. hacklerjason@gmail.com
What was your mileage on the trail vs the gas? That would be the deciding factor for me
Funny you ask, we radioed about this on the way back. 8.6 for gas vs 18.6 for my diesel (silver truck's mileage with RTT)
Cars, Cats & Cannabis and that’s why I got the baby duramax! I’m getting around that when I go wheeling too
Cars, Cats & Cannabis where you in 4lo the entire time? I only get 18 when I’m switch back and forth between 4lo and 4hi
Make more video about off road zr2
What sort of rubbing issues does that ZR2 on 35s have?
Cameron Woody None, although he aggressively trimmed his fenders.
@@CarsCatsCannabis Been going back and forth between the PowerWagon and the Tundra with added locker, lift, and winch. Tundra offers resale value with more reliability, PowerWagon offers better offroad capability and towing with airbags plus wayyyy nicer interior and features.
@@Legendairy2 I would go with a used AEV Prospector with the Cummins diesel. You will be able to find one for the price of a new Power Wagon. I would go with factory lockers and warranty before worrying about lifting a Toyota Tundra and adding lockers, that would be a huge cost and the Power Wagon sounds like the way to go for you.
Where do you wash your truck?
Justin P Heated garage with a powerwasher
Love the look of these trucks but hateeeee the stupid shock bracket location, such a poor design.
For all the whaling and gnashing of teeth not many have actually broken a shock or mount. AEV didn’t even feel compelled to armor the Bison shocks. They had no issues with them in testing. That said, shock skids are $130. Easy peace of mind.
@@RB-rl7kv its not the protecting them, its the fact they hang down so low and you cant fit very big tires on the ZR2 to begin with. AEV themselves replied to me and said they wanted to move them but were not allowed in their deal.
You know I understand why people complain but what I don't see is the damage they keep saying will happen. I guess is tires are your issue that's different. Still the truck gets it done.
2500HD shock mounts. Not worried
@@EGGINFOOLS damage isn't the worry, they can make them as beefy as they want, gusset them, doesn't change the fact they made an extra low point that is completely unnecessary. Can't tell you how many times I have seen people get hung up on shit shock mount locations. It's all about ground clearance and since this truck already struggles to fit a 35" it becomes an even bigger issue.
How much was the rack with lights
2k installed
Any info on the cabins?
They were only $119 a night this time of year and slept like 8 people. They were exquisitely built and were all handcrafted with local timber. Super cozy, likely my favorite accomodations away from home ever. www.drummondisland.com/northern-michigan-resort
Where did you get the bumper
In the Smoky Mountains, a small fabrication shop there. He had a ZR2 for a month down there of a friend's and I got a variation of his bumper.
how/where get FULL DELETE??
illegal now in usa
@@CarsCatsCannabis i understand. I did a complete delete on my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 3.0l mercedes turbo diesel. i am seriously considering the zr2 bison duramax and the possibility of full delete makes it even more appealing....
I’m more interested in the name! C, C & C!
Where are your cats and cannabis videos?
Do a nissan frontier sv 4x4 please thanks
Buy him one.
Hmmm $40k for a ZR2 or $4k for that S10...
I love the older ZR2s (I off-road Jimmy myself). But you can see these newer ones have more articulation, and well a front locker of course. They each have their pros and cons. Old ZR2s are smaller and nimble and way cheaper to buy but hard to find a good clean one anymore.
