    I've been playing this game for years and NEVER KNEW LIGHT INFANTRY BEHAVIOR PREVENTED FRIENDLY FIRE FROM LINE UNITS BEHIND. This is revelatory. Holy shit dude.

      @duckterdoland3881 Před rokem +3

      It dosnt prevent it, it just lowers friendly hits

    • @jeanhubertgazon
      @jeanhubertgazon Před rokem +2

      Yeah, the light infantry behavior makes the models kneel when firing and reloading so an other infantry can fire above. However, when they move or reforme after taking casualties models stand up and can be shot by friendly units

      As the others stated, it doesn’t prevent friendly fire, just reduces it.

    I usually deploy stakes if I’ve got an area where I really want to deny a cavalry charge. Waterloo’s defending right flank is a good example.

    Light infantry is especially good in the forest . I usually place them just at the border of the forest and they deal a lot of damage without taking much in return.

    I usually deploy stakes and lure the enemy cavalry to charge into them. They are the most effective weapon in the entire game, more than artillery, they can wipe out entire cavalry units in an instant. Beware that they are effective also against your own cavalry, though.

    There isn't a good answer, kiting is a powerful tactic in this game.
    You really just have to keep running after them. Try to move your men up very close and keep them running. I've seen Leo defeat this by running his men up so close they are virtually face to face with the kiter. This means that if the kiter tries to run away, he can't get far enough before he takes volleys in the back.

    Thanks a great vid. I'm relatively new to multilayer but i have found that even standing your men a full range behind your lights they still take casualties from marauding bullets so will be going back a bit further.
    I had really hard trouble the other day against a 5 light 125 player, who kept retreating as my normal lights tried to advanced, just wondering how you would go about that.

    excellent tutorial m8 - very well explained - worth noting as well is early on in game i had my lancers up the bum of my line supporting the lights. very important reason for this when playing prussia vs prussia. we should do a few more on some advanced tactics as well. and thanks for the duel comentaries we did today. lots of fun and sorry again they didnt go completely to plan with the interuptions and ive posted my vid which actually turned out very cool - but not very informative -lol

    Personally stakes are very good in a battle that is in a town. If you have a group of skirmishes deploy their stakes on a flank that is enclosed by houses or a wall, cav can not go through those stakes. Also, rifle infantry can also be exceptional in buildings, but you have to protect them from artillery or infantry raiding the house

    Line infantry cannot fire over the tops of crouched light infantry without causing casualties. There’s still too much spread to the musketry and light infantrymen also sometimes stand up to reposition or clear jams. While it’s rare, line infantry absolutely will hit the light infantry on occasion.
    Also for anyone who cares, this was not a tactic used in real life, for reasons which should be obvious. Light infantry were sent well ahead of the main line as a screening force to harass the enemy and prevent a surprise attack on line infantry before it could finish a maneuver.

  • @civilwarguy4740
    @civilwarguy4740 Před rokem

    You can stretch any unit out further than it should be able to go by using the increase rank button in the middle of the screen. It stretches out slow but you could make the line 1 rank deep if you wanted
    I have to check if this is possible in Napoleon but it is definitely true in Empire

    Another difference between light foot and rifles is that light foot has melee stats close to line infantry, while rifles have melee stats near militia levels. Combined with their greater number, that means light foot are safer against cav, and can even break them one on one, if that cav should charge their front when they are in line formation and can get a good volley into the cav before it hits. Rifle's stakes are their only hope to survive a charge if they are on their own.

    Something else worth mentioning. Lights/skirmishers are not good in melee and are vulnerable to being charged by infantry as well as cav if theyre unsupported.
    Personal note. While you have to be careful of cav while doing this, and it works best with rifles, I like having lights on my wings. Bassicly at both ends of my line is a light. In this technique they are called flankers, and it was something done somewhat in the time period, you will even see one of the French light units named "flanquers". In situations where you can use this tactic, it gives you a high chance of winning on the flanks and double enveloping the enemy.
    I know this is late but I still play this game and I know others do.

    • @TWReplays
      @TWReplays  Před 7 lety +3

      I don't think it does anything. Tooltip says "units will keep a safe distance from the enemy".
      I was curious so I loaded up a couple games and had light walk up and exchange shots with it toggled on - nothing happened.
      There might be a way to make it work, or trigger it, I don't know what that would be.

    • @Metaldude1945
      @Metaldude1945 Před 6 lety +13

      When enemies they get close, they will run away. It's good for when you're not paying attention so that they can retreat without them being overrun by enemy units. Mostly I keep it off though, since when I use them right in front of my line infantry, they can get killed by friendly fire that way.

    • @marsnz1002
      @marsnz1002 Před 5 lety +6

      Leave it off and manually control. If you have it enabled your troops will ignore any other orders they have when an enemy unit comes too close, they'll even stop withdrawing to start fleeing.

    12:00 I disagree with this argument. Line infantry are the equivalent of pike men from Rome in a rock paper scissors. Pike men walk in a line and get crushed by kiting ranged units aka lights. Who get pummeled by calvary. The calvary get cut down be boxed lines.

  • @gabrielegenota1480

    wait so in a double line, the lights dont get hit by the friendlies behind them?

    • @jeanhubertgazon
      @jeanhubertgazon Před rokem

      The light infantry behavior makes models kneel to fire and reload, so friendly infantry can fire above. However when they're moving models stand up and can be easily shot by your own men. It also happens when the light unit reforms after taking casualties (basically a model moving is a model standing up so he can be shot by allies)

    This willkill your light infantry and its not how it works with the current game, dont know when they changed it.Best way to use light infantry is for quick flanks because with the light infantry behavior they are harder ro hit and you dont have to line them up, so you can basically park them as a cube in a forest and they easily survive 3 or even 4 line infantry salvos before you have to pull them out ( plus because of the higher range you can run away before they even become a target)

    I lost because of this tactic, its useless because infantry aren't that accurate and more than half your rifles at dead the time they scare the cavalry, and very weak against dominant army. Keeping light directly infront of your inf is effective and cavalry get mowed down especially on flat terrain, cavalry flee within seconds!

    • @TheButterMinecart1

      That's why you retreat your lights right in front of your line when you get charged.

      Treat your light like bowmen. In front to get a few volleys in, then retreat behind line, then have then as auxiliary line or send them to the flanks.
