Whilst your approach during covid might not have yielded Nico like numbers. 1. You still got an awful lot. 2. For those viewers who discovered you, I bet you were their favourite channel. The long form, stunning visuals, humour and quality presentation were an absolute tonic for many of us!

The difference is that I find Nico obnoxious, even though I occasionally watch his videos. I would never consider buying a watch from Nico simply because he's too much about money. Andrew on the other hand is someone I respect and like. I would consider buying a watch from Watchfinders simply because of Andrew and their support of his videos over the years. Nico is "new Rolex" and Andrew us old Rolex.

Regarding mistakes. Here's mine: 30 years ago I swapped my Sub for a Girard Perregaux "Ferrari". I regretted that almost instantly. Only to find out that my dad had (secretely) bought it back from the same jeweller to give it back to me as a present 2 years later when I got married. Watch and wife are still with me.

The watchfinder channel was part of the gateway into watches for me. By not showing your face on the channel, by being just a pair of hands, let the watches be the star of the show, the focus of attention and let their individual personality shine through. Ive always utterly respected the watchfinder channel for that approach and your lack of ego...need for the limelight was the unique selling point for me Andrew. Your Integrity shone through in a sea of caricature.
So dont sell yourself short mate...some of us really appreciate you wanting to stay behind the scenes, and be a disembodied pair of hands and soothing voice, so the watches could shine. 👍

Hi, great content. Too many mistakes here. But probably my best/worst was in 1988. I was 27 years old and having saved up I bought a Rolex Sea Dweller. This was before the hype, it was available in the Jewelers window in Sheffield. I even got a discount. Loved that watch. Only 12 months later in a fit of romantic stupidity I again went into a jewelers and swapped it for an engagement ring for wife number one. She left me 18 months later

The thing I like most about the videos that you and Tom make is that certain, occasionally subtle undertone in your commentary that makes it clear that you are fully aware that the dilemmas faced by the buyers of luxury watches are very very very 1st world problems. I bought a running movement out of somebody's project watch for cheap and then bought a non-runner (complete w/ bracelet) to transplant it into. The black dial and hands were in good shape (on the runner) were in good shape so I left them in place. I replaced the crystal and gasket and bought a red bezel insert. Later I bought a new factory correct bracelet because mine had not included the extra links. Now I have a watch w/black dial, & red bezel that I couldn't sell for what I have in it, wouldn't sell because it's looks and don't match it's catalog number... and it's an Invicta Grand Diver!

I only have two real regrets in watches and they’re both watches I sold.
First was a 1967 5513 submariner with a beautiful tropical gilt dial and dome plexiglass. Swapped it for a 1665 Great White which I never really liked and sold on at a loss. The 5513 is now permanently out of my reach.
Second was a Moser Endeavour fumee dial which was absolutely glorious and I miss it frequently. However, I at least have the Omiwatari to fill its place 😊

Andrew, you are a breath of honest air. I hear such reflections. Never forget what you created. Long before we ever saw your good looks, your voice was known to a very large proportion of the watch watching world. I knew your voice 4 years before I ever saw you live, AND, as you say, it had it's period. Super Super Great. Along with your mate Tom, your microphone discussions were classic and epic. Remember the Goons? it's a bit like that. I LOVED it. And then, suddenly, Andrew becomes a human, no longer a voice. That took a bit of adjusting too, but what a nice tuning, you are a delight dear sir, a new erra. You NEVER make a mistake in life, it is just 'part' of the process. You might think differently later, but at the time, that was what it was to be. You have to trust in your past and hope for your future based on Wisdom. That Sir, you have an awful lot of (in some areas). Be Confident in what you do A, cause you are doing it really well!. I wish you success and

I think that the Watchfinder channel should go back to doing “experts at every angle” style! Those were the videos that I absolutely fell in love with, and your ability to bring the level of detail and expertise to each video, and more importantly each watch, are what set you apart! Videos that I remember distinctly, and watch time, and time again, are those related to comparisons of an old Daytona versus the new Daytona, or the clash of the Titans between Patek and Sohne! I even love the background theme song

For a milestone Birthday I had bought myself an Arita Porcelain Seiko Presage. Before I could announce it, a much-loved relative presented me with a decent Tissot. Decent, but not on the same level. Rather than disappoint the Tissot-giver, I passed the Seiko to my surprised-but-grateful son. To my continuing disappointment, the Tissot appears determined to give years of impeccable performance, denying me an excuse to replace it...I thought of getting my boss to present me a jlc and reduce my bonus, but that's how I got my bike past the other half. I don't think she'll fall for it twice!

Andrew, love the content and thanks for sharing. Without getting into all of my mistakes, let me share the most recent from 2022. I like chronographs and kind of liked the look of the Bulova Surfboard and when I saw an advertisement of a look-a-like Invicta for about $50 bucks on sale, I decided to do some research, but didn't find much, so I bought it. Well the verdict is, it's too big, it doesn't function at all like the Bulova and so I was very disappointed and don't know what to do with the brick. And long story short, I ended up buying the Bulova for Christmas when it went on sale. 😞

Several things here. Watch finder channel is THE channel to watch when one wants to learn about the aspects of a timepiece before selling their house to buy it. Watch finder channel gets straight to the point in a very matter-of-fact way and covers all the important points from movement to case to finish. There is no other channel that can fill its boots. Some come close, but there is only one Watchfinder channel. Second, you are very good at introducing me to watches I have never thought of purchasing because I didn’t look close enough. Thus, my next watch will be the U-Boat. Move over, Omega…it’s U-Boat time!

My biggest mistake was buying too many $500-$1000 watches because I just couldn’t bear the thought of spending $3000-$10,000 on a watch. Well about $10,000 wasted I learned that I would never scratch the itch, now I have spent as much as $25,000 on one watch. Watch collecting is a disease, best to try to make sound financial decisions with the money spent instead of wasting money on watches that will not hold even 50% of their purchase price

buy cheap and buy twice, or in your case, thrice. If you have the means, go for the watch that you really want. I too made the wrong decision to start by dipping my toes in the water with a $3000 watch. And now that I have many much nicer watches, that old watch has not been worn for a whole year, and has lost quite a lot of value

I'm ashamed to say I still have the original Russian diver and it's brother, the skeletonized version. I was always too embarrassed to sell them...and to be honest, I still kind of like them. My watch mistake was my first watch. Not a costly mistake, but at that time I had to work to convince myself to spend $250 on a watch. I finally did, and thought I would be so happy with my Stührling Emporer’s Grandeur. I really wanted the black one but couldn’t convince myself to spend $275. I bought it even though my wife said it looked ugly. (Not listening to her was a bigger mistake than actually buying it). Anyways, it’s huge, thick, gaudy and doesn’t work anymore. But I keep it in plain view with my other watches as a reminder.

Fantastic job mate, would love to grab a bite and talk if I am ever in the UK.
Soooo... Mine was a Depancel Serie-R. My first big boy watch was a Tag Heuer Monaco. I loved it, but it stopped working after a week and had to return it. I decided to keep my money and look elsewhere. As the years went on, I had a desire for a square automotive watch again, but couldnt justify the Monaco price tag. I got a cheap one from EMT and it was decent for the price.
Then I saw the Depancel. It looked so elegant, crafted in their own manner, not a copy. I loved the story of the brand and wanted to support this plucky little French watch company. Their customer service was top tier (take that, Yema) and they were a charm to deal with. Loved them.
Then I got the watch. The majority of watches out there usually give me a pleasant surprise when I see it in person. Photos typically dont do them justice. But this one, just didnt have that effect at all. It looked worse in person. It was a little clumsy on wrist too. It never meshed with me. I had to sell it. But... who? WHO? Who has even heard of Depancel? Who would even buy it? It sat on my ebay store for about 2 years.
At least it was only about $600. I still follow the brand to this day and cheer them on. They listen to their customers too, so I hope they see this. I didnt have the heart to tell them to their face 😂

My mistake would be the same as any other watch entusiast. Buying too many affordable watches early to later afford, or feel comfortable with spending enough to buy the one watch you really wanted.

I would not call it a mistake, it got you interested in watches and started your journey, you should be proud and send a warm thought to that U-boat.
My first watch I saved up for was a Breitling Super Avenger, just as big and clunky and I hardly ever wear it anymore, but back then I wore the life out of it. So I keep it around because it earned it's place in my mind and started my collection.

My first decent watch was a hand wind Rolex Super Oyster from my dad in 1989. It had Super Oyster on the crown but it does not have a screw down crown. These watches are super rare because they leaked water and were only in production for 2-3 years. The seals did not work well and many were recalled but I even found another in 10k gold. It’s so cool to have a leaky Rolex Oyster!

Andrew, I watch a lot of watch channels, I love Nico for entertainment, just the mad watch collector, lots of fun, hilarious takes on things. BUT. If I want serious watch information its only you and Teddy I turn to. I love your dry humour and your delivery. You were my gateway drug into CZcams watch videos and only Teddy is put to your standard in imparting knowledge to us mere mortals.
On the subject of watch mistakes, I am one of those people who keep on making the same mistake, I keep buying bloody watches. Cheap, expensive, big brand, micro brand, even one of those poxy moon swatches, the one with its tongue hanging out (Saturn). I have resisted a swatch pain so far but only by getting myself a far better watch at the same price point (Seiko SSK005). Although I didn't dare let on to the wife how much my Zenith Chronomaster actually cost me, even though it was off one of those dodgy resale sights.....
Keep up the good work old son. You are doing a grand job.

I too am extremely guilty of the gambler’s fallacy, a few years back-I went to a shop that appealed mainly to the surfer/free-spirited demographic. I came across a display case showcasing what was quite popular at the time-Nixon watches. Soon enough, I obsessed exclusively over Nixon. And how did I confirm my bias? I kept buying Nixon watches. Though I’m a little embarrassed that my only connection with the world of horology was Nixon, I credit Nixon watches with the emergence of my intermittent, periodic obsession with watches. Intermittent because it’s either watches-or it’s Legos. I’m no obvious correlation there; maybe I’m a dude that just likes fancy toys. Maybe one day I can miraculously also get myself into my favorite exotic/hypercars. In the meantime, though I’ve liquidated my entire Nixon collection, I’m grateful for my incidental introduction to the world of horology, courtesy, Nixon. I’ve grown a bit, I managed to add GS and Tudor to the small stable. Cheers!!!

My worst regret watch was in 2007 when I made the mistake to huy one Omega speedmaster reduced, so many problems, such a bad experience from omega after sales service, that I've learn the lesson, I sold that watch, and got rid of a problem, it was a relief.... Omega, when I see a store of them, I just go to the other side... really bad experience.

Hey Andrew, your content is super. The similes are often too sophisticated for the young but don’t fret that. The niche is where it’s at. I thought the two microphones talking to one another was your hook. Yes, double down on shorts. Stay witty and have good guests. Colabs sell two channels.

I bought a couple of casio analogue watches for circa £22.00. Both watches do not keep time very well and the minute hands don't seem to line up with the dial markers. The lesson learned is that there is a reason why these watches are £9.99/£10.99

Andrew, I know the feelin about liking it but refusing to buy it all too well. It's all about the principles and staying true to yourself. Buying it will make ou question your past actions and that's not easy. Trying to do it the other way around, first getting rid of that principle and then making the plunge might work but not always and is quite hard to trick your brain into it.

I really didn't want to get into a new hobby, when I first became interested in watches and to make matter worse, I hate wearing a watch (or any jewellery for that matter) but the idea of having a watch interested me. So after doing some research and realising I could spend thousands, I tried to resist and instead bought something much cheaper, a Seiko Coutura Chronograph which looked ok but felt like a tree trunk on my arm and was either too tight or look to fit comfortably. In the end I had to return it. Instead I got a Citizen Eco-Drive Promaster Diver Titanium Watch, which I liked because it is light and practical but it is also dreadfully boring and doesn't actually mean anything to me. So it just sits on a window, gathering light.
What I realised after was that what I like about a watch is the mechanicalness of it and the Citizen just isn't that watch. In the end I bought the Hamilton Aviation Pilot watch, because not only was it mechanical but also it is a movie watch and I love movies, to a point where I got a degree in film making and worked in the industry for a time. I still don't wear the watch but I appreciate it and that is the big difference.

Love you Andrew mate. Should have done more to promote this channel - took me a year to find it, and that’s not on. You are the best in the business, lots of channels live off you.
By the way, brave to admit the following - a U-Boat got you into watch collecting and you said something respectful about Hublot. You’re the man that got me obsessed with Chopard, the man that would stop me buying a Patek over a Vacheron, and why I occasionally find myself buying a kickstarter watch in the hope of finding something magic (you are also the reason I own a D. Dornbluth).
Mate, if you have a Patreon, can you please share it, I’m massively indebted to you.

Watch mistakes are okay if it is not expensive. Buying an Invicta Pro Diver is not heart breaking if one regrets the purchase but a Hublot is really something to consider very carefully. But after years the love of it still lingers, just buy, who cares what others think of it.

Watchfinder was and still is the best channel out there for pure watch prn. I do lament at the way CZcams has destroyed the quality of content on its own platform by pushing creators to produce shorter click bait content to attract clicks and squeeze in more advertising revenue. The quality of content created on CZcams has nose dived since 2019. Arguably since 2012 but that's a different story.

I love your brutal honesty and sarcasm. I’m crossing my fingers the likes of Nico and other “kids” oriented content loses its popularity. Trends change and usually come full circle. Keep down your own path and don’t let those other flash in the pan tubers detract from the true quality content. Viva Hublot!
