  • Modern agriculture would be inconceivable without them: Huge harvesting machines such as beet and potato harvesters, tractors weighing tons and high-horsepower foragers. Agricultural technology made in Germany is at the forefront of the world market. How do the powerful harvest giants work? Where are they made? In our documentation we take a look around the agricultural technology fair Agritechnica in Hanover, we are present at a harvesting mission in Western Pomerania and show the effort with which the XXL machines are transported.

    I can never understand why humans put so much effort to making humans obsolete

    • @2Fast4Mellow
      @2Fast4Mellow Před rokem

      Because most humans think they are too good for hard work. Many farmers (worldwide) struggle to find enough employees to perform the tasks, therefor efficiency is key. Automation increases efficiency and that means that tasks takes less time (or you can do more in the same amount of time).
      Because the highly industrialized farming world, we can steel feed the world. Of course if you don't like industrialization, you can visit an artisan organic farmer, but don't start complaining prices their prices are too high. Because when hourly wages rise, so does the costs of goods that are sold. Those large machines are indeed expensive, but can do the work of 10 people, calculate their annual salaries and you quickly find out why these million dollar machines are sold like cup cakes...

    Here in the western 1/2 of the US 🇺🇸 we use trucks to do 98% of the hauling of silage, fertilizer, etc. When the feild to farm is longer distance then in most of Europe and can do 60+ mph instead of 25 to 30 mph depending on the tractor. It makes more sense. For example I work for a 10,000 milking cow dairyfarm in Arizona and we had to drive up to 1.5 hrs or around 60 miles one way just to get to the feild. Then get a load of silage and drive back. Maybe 5 loads a day in 12 to 14 hr day.

      @@joel8340. You're talking West Europe, East of Europe has massive space and are located far from silo storage. So in Eastern Europe, haulage by truck instead of tractor is becoming more and more common. Here in the US in the Midwest and West parts large equipment is used. Along the East coast areas are much more compact and those large apparatuses would be almost impossible to move. On the east coast most farmers can see all of their land standing on a silo or water tower. In other parts of the US a farmer needs a helicopter to inspect its land...

    Hearing the German inthe background and the English translation reminds me of the old Transtel Cologne documentaries on TV back in the 1970s.

    I had a glass of beer everytime the narrator said *"Partik-you-larly";* by the end of the video I was very pissed. ("pissed" is Aussie Lingo for drunk, not Murican lingo for angry).

    It's a real shame that the manufacturers have decided to maximize their profits at the cost of the farmers. Those machines require regular servicing and repairs which is expected and in the past could mostly be done on site by the farmer and the staff. Now however the service manuals, computer software and upgrades and even parts are unavailable unless you get the company you bought the machine from to come out and fix it for you. Farming isn't easy and often they barely break even . This underhanded tactic by manufacturers is shameful.

      You can buy a plain simple harvester, but in the most cases it is cheaper to engage a harvesting company with XXL equipment - you have no leasing rates and repair costs, it´s mainly a calculation.

      @@Rick2010100 You’re missing Richards point mate! He’s right the price of machinery and parts has gone ridiculous this past 8-10 years. Squeezing the farmer the whole time. These multinational companies don’t care for the end consumer of their product basically. The day that the family farm is nonexistent is the end of reliable food source.
