- On BudgetEDH we build fun and optimized commander decks with a budget in mind. In this week's episode we build a $100 budget Gavi, Nest Warden deck. This new cycling commander deck from Commander 2020 rewards you for cycling cards with the super cute dinosaur cat tokens. We loaded our deck to the max with cycling cards to make as many cat dinos as we could, in addition to some very powerful synergies that are built into this deck. Who knew that cycling could be so fun?

I know it's budget but,..decree of silence is gold in this deck
Instead of spending 15 bucks on an Alhammerets Archive, instead use “Teferi’s ageless insight” from the new set. Only like a buck and has the same effect as the archive without the life gain effect, which is pretty much useless in this deck anyway.

Thought reflection could work as a budget alternative to alhammaret's archive. Costs 2 more mana and is harder to cast but its way cheaper.
What do you think of having kykar in? He makes flying tokens that you can sac for red mana. Since your playing a lot of non creature spells it could be just extra tokens on board

We have the same taste. I picked one up today on amazon (my LGS was closed :( , and apairently it has a 40$ card in it. I managed to pick it up for 5$ under msrp (somehow), but when i went back to the listing it went all the way up to 80$ and would be back in stock on december 31. Holly @%#$

I personaly run one in my Rhys the Redeemed deck (selesnya tokens) and it preforms great. I would put it in any wide token deck

not necessarily the *best* card in the world, and pretty situational, but if you have a player in your playgroup that plays with combo decks that like to activate their abilities over and over like breya, krenko, time sieve, etc. Lavinia of the Tenth is a good target for your astral drift type cards. if she gets removed somehow, you may have a hard time getting her back, but that detain ability for everything CMC 4 or less on etb can be back-breaking

I got the precon but just turned it into Brokkos. Otrimi is still in the deck but brokkos is definitely better imo. They got the same stats, but Brokkos isnt afraid to die. And with boneyard lurker in the deck you practically have 2 copies of otrimi anyway. It's a super fun deck. If you can stack like 5-6 mutate triggers, just feels good.
Some cards I'd say to maybe think about are 'bag of holding' 'mentor of the meek' 'nadir kraken' 'the locust god', if you want to combo out you can run mentor of the meek with either nadir or locust god out with an ashnods altar allowing you to draw a card to make a 1/1 token which you sacrifice to ashnods to draw your deck out and do something like thassa oracal or lab man to win

I went full tilt into lock down. With this deck.
Archomancer, Gavi and astral slide on the field. Cycle decree of annihilation for free and flicker archomancer to get it back. Truly lock the board forever with overloaded winds of abandon, cycle decree of annihilation to destroy all the lands they got from the winds! So evil!
Auramancer, Gavi and astral slide. Cycle decree of silence and flicker auramancer to get it back. Free counter spell every turn. If you have escape protocol it cost one mana but you can use it multiple times a turn. Slot in solomnity to completely lock you opponents if you ever get enough mana to cast it (or cheat it into play with academy rector).
Sundial of the infinite with astral slide or drift is just hilarious. Blink out a creature and end the turn. Those creature stay exiled for good. Even commanders. Or treasure nabber with sundial of the infinite to keep all your opponents’ mana rocks. Or prevent them from ever using their rocks if they catch on. I’m fine with whatever they pick lol.
The rest of the deck are tutors to get the pieces and counters to protect the combo.
