- It all started with 'The Ricky Gervais Show', despite being named after Ricky Gervais, is mostly about the life and ideas of Karl Pilkington!
The show started in August 2001 on Xfm Radio, later picked up by Guardian Unlimited, and was consistently ranked as the number one podcast in the worl!
It was even in the Guinness World Record in 2007 as the world's most downloaded podcast.
In 2010 an animated series, based on the podcast, was created and launched on HBO in the US and Channel 4 in the UK.
Karl Pilkington initially started just as the producer of the show, brought in to assist the administrative work around the radio show,
But Ricky and Stephen quickly picked up on Karl's different way of thinking and started to incorporate him into the show, and he quickly became the star of the show!
The trio has done many different collaborations after the end of 'The Ricky Gervais Show'.

Just got threw the rockbusters marathon yesterday and I loved it. Been listening to these for a good while and there always seems to be something I haven't heard yet.

I've never considered myself that great at buying gifts but holy shit, I'm a god compared to these three. Just look at the list:

Ricky: Lottery tickets
Karl: Condoms, woolen gloves
I couldn't bear to give someone any single one of those lol, they're all so excruciatingly bad.
Why would any man give a woman condoms as a present?

And Steve wanted to give something he'd made at home as a wedding gift.

Karl was right and the ‘expert’ was wrong. Cockroaches really do have 18 knees. I first heard this fact on David Mitchell’s ‘The Unbelievable Truth’, but after hearing it questioned here, I thought I’d google the answer. Just seems weird as he was supposedly talking to an expert.

Ricky is actually a very religious man, only his religion is science of any kind. If a scientist says “x will happen because of y” he believes it with absolute, zealotous faith, despite contradicting opinions from others. In the case of the monkeys with typewriters and infinite time, he absolutely believes that nonsense because “science sorts it out”. But in reality, mathematically, that event is possible, though highly unlikely, to occur. They even had a mathematician write in and explain this, and Ricky was kind of flabbergasted by it.
Scientism.
Then the mathematician was wrong. The probability increases with time, and given infinite time, will approach 100%.
@@Joseph-uc5co No way to prove that. More bullshit science. No monkey is ever going to sit down and type out the complete works of Shakespeare by randomly hitting keys on a typewriter. I don’t care how much “infinity” he has. It would just never happen.
@@TheSniperGTO I'm not sure if you understand. It's a mathematical concept and thought experiment meant to illustrate randomness. Obviously it's not something we can put into practice, but the mathematics behind it works.
Not really. If a scientist says x will happen because of y, it's because evidence has shown it to be true. If it hasn't been tested or doesn't have evidence to back it up they tend not to use absolute language.
In the case of the monkeys, it will occur such is the nation of infinity.
