Iâve been painting for 36 years and gotta say bottom to top is the way to go. When you go bottom to top you see your overlap way better than top to bottom cause top to bottom you will lose your pattern by the cup somewhat . Meaning less likely to run and get a better even pattern overlap
Bottom to top has helped me so much on doors when painting in my at home booth. I lack lighting and it has been a task trying to find my wet edge from top to bottom. This is the truth.
@fredthompson2846 I agree so much!
I started spraying in the furniture restoration world. Kinda fell in love with it. Now moving towards automotive spraying particularly motorcycles. Thanks for the info. Keep it up.
i got mine last month, in love with it. Thanks for your video, Brian!
Thoroughly enjoy your craft. Value all of the descriptions, discussions and best advice. Such an intriguing discipline. Simply lovely results. Admire the true pros đđ
Just bought an Astro Euro HTE 1.3mm thanks to you! And you got me into Tamco paints. You're the man!
That astro is a great gun as well!!
Thats it you sold me a decent gun at a good price I already ordered it off amazon im a beginner an didnât know absolutely nothing about guns an which one to go with but you definitely help my choice out đđŸđđŸ i appreciate your videos thank you
Hey Brian, awesome video.
I think you really explained and showed the vital points very well.
I have to agree with you, I've been doing this job since sep 2010, and I love it.
When I paint, I like to start from the top, simply because I'm already standing up most of the time. But to be honest, I never saw any difference in starting positions.
What does make sense, and I know you mentioned it before, but I think you could emphasise even more, is starting from away of your filters, moving towards them.
Even if you are doing some DIY, without any filters, or real ventilation. Open a door or window, move from furthest to closest.
You have to let some ventilation in though, let the fumes get out.
Having the biggest fan is really worth it, so be wise, follow Brians advise. Invest in your tools. Paying "a lot" once is usually cheaper than paying "less over and over".
A question back at you Brian:
In Germany, we are really car crazy. We like our rides to look good.
So painting ANY edges is vital. Colour and clear. I paint edges from 3 sides basically - front, edge, back.
I never really see you emphasise that too much, how do you handle that with like a dismounted front bumper, or a round fender edge ?
Thanks for the videos! I am an electrician by trade but fell in love with automotive work the last 5 years. Want to re paint a 90âs 4 runner and trying to learn all I can. As a tradesman I think itâs awesome all the advice and tips you give to help people love your trade. More people should follow your example. Tradesman are not too common nowadays.
Brian, your a great teacher. Videos are will presented, and very helpful. Donât over think it is just paint.
Hey man I just want to say thank you for all the work you put into these videos. I had a furniture business and have now transitioned into construction and homebuilding, but learned a lot here about finishing conditions and surface preparation. Be well!
Thanks! Glad you enjoy
@@PaintSociety Hey what you think is better Kiwami4 vs Astro Euro Blue?
Great video its always nice to see reviews of spray guns since there are so many options to choose from it would be nice to see more videos on the fuji or apollo turbine sprayers
Hello and happy new year Brian,
Was watching your video you shoot with pedro spraying red
1stly thank you for all the dedication and hard work you put for viewers who want to help themselves
I am 50 and raised 5 kids
But thanks to youtube
I am a pretty decent diy guy
Changed headgasket on matrix few months back
Now
Will be painting 2003 corolla S
And 2009 Matrix orange
May be more than 30 your videos l've watched and got basic tools, will be starting next week
Coming off 5-6 years little mental issues
Thanks to folks like you, old school hands-on providing direction đđđ
Love your videos, and really appreciate what youâre doing here! Planning to paint my â73 Bronco this spring, so watching your videos is like a course for me!
Iâve had this gun for a few years and it does spray really nice for the money.
At the 7 minute mark, straight facts! Ive been painting for 20 years, i still love it!! Especially when we get to do custom work. I use mostly iwata's. But love my dv1 base gun. I use one of my w400 with a wbx cap for clear, and ive been loving the results. I can match almost every factory orange peel, or i can get a race car smooth job off the gun! (No buff)
I like it Brian... great show to show us all what you have to offer... still turned out great with that gun ! With fun!
Brian, I really enjoy watching your videos. You have such a wonderful talent. I think you have sold me on this spray gun. Outstanding work for $200.
I was lucky to pick up two Bellarias second hand from two different pawn shops. One clean and the other caked in candy and glitter, but cleaned up perfectly. I also picked up a Kiwami but it's a siphon feed gun. I couldn't find much info on it but assumed as it was physically smaller that it was going to be a smaller fan and a slower gun. Perhaps better for stuff like motor cycles, bikes and odd jobs where you don't want to smash on the paint. Haven't used it yet as I'm not up to that point in the project but might have to find something else to paint just to have a play with it!
hey Brian in your hands all the guns look like the Iwata ws400. in my opinion one of the best developed guns. Thank you very much for the video, see you soon
Thank you for the video Brian. I'm just getting into painting as a hobby, I have some experience, but not a lot. I think I'll invest in this gun.
My teacher always trained me to start at the bottom just so you know your covered but I have been starting up top so I can see how things are going then when I get to the middle of the panel where itâs harder to I have already learned how things are going and it helps me finish everything good even thought I have trouble seeing
Awesome gun...and the width is much larger then my old hte3 ( which will now become a primer gun ) . I wouldn't want the patter any larger. No Tiger stripping at all and feels as large a spray pattern as I can happily manage. Best gun I've used and the price is amazing.
dude i couldnt agree more with your statement about painting very well said. I bought a sata 5000 very good gun and went the cheap route with some backups in case i had a seal rupture or failure on my main setup. went with the black widows cheapy's from harbor freight and was forced to use them a couple weeks ago and i was pleasantly surprised they worked very well and have come a long way since the first versions. I'm definitely gonna try this one out thgh
Exactly. Thanks for the comment Jesse
I only spray from bottom to top if I have to so that I can keep my wet edge. I find it easier to watch reflection of my lights (to see if I'm spraying wet or dry) if I start at top and work my way down.
I'm 32 and I'm planning on going back to school to study this stuff. Just wanna say that your videos make it sound more awsome everyday and just wanna say thanks đ
Thank you! Good luck in school
I got the Wider with a 2.5mm setup and am loving it!
Thanks for the videos Brian, I really appreciate them. They help a beginner like me stay motivated until spring time when the weather returns to a reasonable temperature.
I think as a beginner and watching your videos probably one of the best instructional items Iâve learned is what not to do. LololâŠ. Actually thatâs a complement and the truth. I hope you have a great weekend.
I've been painting on cars ..and industrial stuff for over 30 years..I was aviation certified for Bell helicopter ..Boeing and Bombardier..I also done powder coating for about 4 years ..I mostly used Devilbiss guns and for the past 8 been using a teknaprolite ..don't like it ..but couldn't afford better until recently when I bought a Sata x5500..but im restoring a 67 plymouth gtx and saving the new gun for it . I have been following you for a while now and you seem to have the same style as o do paint from bottom ..heavy on clear ..high pressures ..but man you can paint ..im having troubles with paint match and cloudiness in silvers ..but our v.o.c crap is different here in Canada ..that coupled with my old gun and getting older ..now 51..eye sight diminishing and painting in an old garage are not helping ..keep your videos coming ..im learning a lot ..you are awesome đ đ
Im in Canada aswell...I use a Tekna Prolite every day! What do you mean by cloudiness? Try tightening up your overlap and drop coat/orientation coat is important. This will get your metallics to layout properly.
On the Prolite i spray coverage coats at 20psi and about 17psi for drop coat. Thats with a 1.3 tip and i believe im running the TE20 air cap.
@@splash5974 where in Canada are you? Iâm in Vancouver

don't "save your gun" for your new resto job get use to using that gum and work out issues on lesser jobs rather than on your prize.
Thanks for the review Brian and a nice job
one of the best guns for the price i have used is the ANI F160, and R160, there around ÂŁ110 and at 3bar it sprays so well!
Your videos are very good with the camera on you, don't lose that. I can see a lot of detail, ty very much
Man I feel a lot better about having bought this when they first showed up on eBay đ. I wanted a Bellaria but prices had started going up even then. I haven't had a chance to use it and got it way back in May for around $260 shipped and it looks like pri es are even less now. I may grab another one. Thanks for all these awesome vids!
Best channel on youtube. Thanks again.
The more I watch these the more I want to get into painting. I have a 1986 Cressida and a 1986 Corolla in need of paint. I might have to invest the money and give it a try.
Itâs an awesome hobby man
Great job on the vehicle - great video!
I just bought the air gunsa, it arrived yesterday and cant wait to use it. It is my first paint gun. I know i will love painting so im adding this one to my wish list so i keep growing
Did you already have your own compressor? - how much did it cost please?
@@philtucker1224 not yet. Im going to buy a used one from a friend It is a 150lt, 2hp 3450rpm with doble pistons. I dont know the cfm but i think it is suficient for DIY. Here, new ones are around 800$-1200$, he is selling it to me for 550$
Best teacher ive seen. Thanks
Great job on this one!! I have all of the old w400 and lph400 air caps minus the purple and the bellaria fan is between the lv2 and wbx caps in size. This new gun seems to be the same as the old bellaria.
Man you make anything look easy! You da man!
Brian the iwata spray pattern size look similar to the devilbiss gti pro lite.thanks for video and spending your hard earned money to make these videos for other people đ
My dream job Brian...you make it look easy.....
The first pattern was perfect đ€© man. Beautiful fan of paint. Not a bad wee spray gun guys
Nice job again! Cheers! đđŽó §ó ąó „ó źó §ó żđ
Thank again Brian for explaining what needs to be done and how to buy the right equipment. I appreciate your link to the items! You're the best!
Love the videos, you have taught me so much, Keep them coming. I painted right out of high school about 25 years ago. I am starting again because I have missed it; I was looking at the east wood P500 Primer gun and the lph400-lvx extreme basecoat orange cap. I have an 80 Gallon compressor 7.5 hp air is not a problem. What are your thoughts on those two are would you recommend something else.
I would love to see you demo a Devilbiss Plus Gun. I have 3 of those and I switched to an Iwata lph400 with the orange cap for clear. But I remember you could get a Glass finish with the Devilbiss. It just used more paint. Im painting my 1955 Belair soon and I can't decide which gun I want to use. Old Skool or New Skool.
Hi Brian, I placed my order for Monday delivery. Looking forward to trying out this new gun! Thanks, John
Good luck John!
Thanks for the quality Brian God bless
I couldn't find one on Amazon. They have a LPH80. THANKS for sharing all of your knowledge. I really appreciate it đ
On the list, gotta go check it out. Thanks Brian! As always great tips. Now you got me wanting to try bottom to top, usually do top to bottom. I'm a tall dude and seems to work for me, but I will try the other way eventually đ .
Give it a try and let me know how it goes! I sometimes get dry spray on the lower panels so I like to focus on those areas first
Iâm just now starting out this is the gun i spray with. Itâs not to bad hopefully I can upgrade soon.
Nice one Brian be honest im not a sprayer I just enjoy watching
I like starting bottom too, I feel I can see what Iâm doing much better because I can hold my gun lower than my eyes and look down on my pattern
Great work as always. How do you feel this compares to the ASTRO you used a while back? Thanks again.
You sir are giving me the confidence to paint me and my homies shitboxes to get them lookin crispy.
You do beautiful work !
The w400 with the maroon cap is a Lv-wbx. They have a larger fan pattern than the original w400 with the Lv2 cap, and the bellaria with ba4 cap.
Definitely not an even playing field
I paid $269 plus tax ! Love this gun ! My next gun will be the DeVilbiss dv1
I have a down draft booth, so I spray clear from the top then downwards to put the over spray into the filter
I would love to see how that gun sprays silver metallic. That would be the selling point. Although at 25psi for base, without a booth it would be a blast of overspray in comparison to guns like DV1.
spraying with a smaller fan is always better. iâm impressed with the kiwami update from w400. it definitely looks more cheaply made especially the nozzle snd cap. sprays the same but i would bet my last dollar it wonât be as durable over time
buying the better tool is def the way to go,you are so right about not buying the cheapest stuff, a diy er will buy something 5 times til they get what they think they need, instead of asking professionals their opinion, this paint gun vs a hf gun, no comparison , imho
Nice music đ always great advice on painting
Just brought this gun, l havenât regretted my decision.
looks great I'm going to be painting a service body I've ordered
Great video brother! It produce a great finish for sure. Turn up the beats lets paint!
Haha thanks for watching !!
Beautiful job đ
The Bellaria is an amazing gun for the home painter or Pro.
Looks great brian, i know in the past you did a couple of videos using a fuji and apollo hvlp furbine system, would you be able to to one comparing the 2 brands side by side to see what one comes out the best
Great video. Very informative. Is there a lot of overspray in the door jams after that paint job?
Beautiful paint job and musicđ
đ„đ„ you make look so easy đłâđœđ
Preach! Good reputable companies make cheaper guns that do work!
Hey what's up Brian!! Great stuff as usual!!
Questions...
No more wetbed with blends?
What's the reason behind that?
Awesome channel
Thank you!!
Brian as I watched you spray the clear, the fan looked very uniform
Thanks for the awesome videos! Starting my research for a paint job in a few months. So do you need a gun for base/clear and one for prime/sealer? Also, if you prime and sand w 400 is it still a good idea to seal after? Thanks!
Great work good guns
Thanks for all the videos your doing a great job đ I just bought this gun with the S43 pps adapter and it's not fitting my gun any suggestions? Thank you very much.
How does this one compare to the Astro EURO HE 103, with exception to price. "Thank You" for the outstanding content !! Now get them shirts back in stock !!
Great videos !
Great video Brian, as always... Speaking of reasonable prices...I have a Master pro44 1.3 that sprays beautiful... I recommend that you check it out... Blessingsđ
How mucho cfm and psi consume your master pro 44?
Wow! How does that not run? 75% overlap. Thatâs a lot of clear at one time. You are a wizard
Thicker clears donât run as easy
Brian is speedy.
It's like movin your pc mouse, you don't look at your hand, then screen, then hand again, and so forth.
Your hand and arm just move, your eyes on the prize, always follow close behind, where the paint hits the area.
Look ->with
I ordered my direct from JapanâŠ. Same as my Bellaria W-400.
Started at the bottom now I'm here lol nice one Brian đ đ
Lol!!! I like that đ
I've been painting for 40 years i spray from bottom to top just like you and make sure to stop at a different place on the second coat so I don't put 4 coats of clear in one spot if someone wants to spray top to bottom i don't think it matters
I love my Bellaria, had it for about 8 years. I just painted Mazda Soul Red Crystal 46V on my sons Subaru GC8, it did the black wet on wet primer, ground, mid coat and HS clear all through a 1.3 tip absolutely perfectly. I think the newer gun you are using is a bit lighter and saves a little bit of materials and uses a bit more air. I'll probably keep using what I've got but might get another Iwata if I need a second gun. Love the Bellaria though..
differences between the new and old model is the overall weight, a redesigned air valve, and supposedly they reduced the pressure at the cap by 0.5-1.5bar. from the data sheet perspective they're both the same gun
I think the Kiwami4 is made in Korea, the Bellaria was obviously made in Japan
The Kiwami4 is made in japan. I have one. It is just an ergonomically updated gun. The fluid tips even are the same.. I've swapped them just to seeâ@mitchellferre1652
Good instructor!
I think spraying bottom to top is easier to see the dry line because you're eyes are looking down on the spray. If I'm painting the whole car on the last coat I would finish on top to minimize the overspray from the sides. I thinking of doing an extra last coat just on top because I like to start from the top and there is less chance of a run on the horizontal surfaces.
Actually that makes sense. Itâs funny that I actually do that as well. To see the wet edge
I just said the same thing and scrolled down to see this
Brian Is great ! Humble and good ! âŠ. Inspires confidence
Hi i bought this same gun and as you say you are here to inspire us, with that said I will be painting my truck in candy very soon in doing so I would like a more professional gun where cost doesn't matter. which one would you buy if you were going to use it for years on end. ps nice vids
Thanks for the review and info on a solid budget friendly gun. So you based and cleared with the 1.3 tip??
Nicely done....
Top vs bottom depends on the booth, if you have a downdraft and start at the bottom overspray will always be sucking down over your passes. Using slow reducer like you it probably wouldnt be a issue but in my busy shop we are forced to used fast and might cause a problem. I guess in your booth it dont matter. I like the bottom more because if you dont like your peal early you can correct as you get higher to the more visible areas. Whats your thoughts?
I spray in a down draft and still prefer bottom to top. It just feels more comfortable to me, even though i was taught to spray top to bottom...
We use a medium activator
Itâs the best fun and the results like making anything old look like new. ButâŠI got hooked on buying guns so after gfg670 flg3 iwata w400 supernova ws400 supernova entech sagola 4500 and devilbiss Tekna copper it gets addicting. Oh and forgot the devillbiss mini gun sri. Not even used yet. I bit too much sometimes. I would only use like a 100 dollar gun for primer since Iâd sand it if itâs etch
You were saying top->bottom or vice versa?
The fact that you went bottom to top at the back, top to bottom in the middle.... and it all looks perfect... proves that it really doesn't matter! :D
Iâll start bottom to too and while Iâm painting I just keep it moving. Makes no difference to me
Great Video!
Could you please do a video (if you haven't) of mixing 1K and 2K primer/base/clear. My auto shop only sells 1K colour code match base, so is that compatible with a 2K clear? What about a 1K primer, or is 2K primer necessary?
Thanks Paint Society
I'm currently using the 3m performance and was looking to get something else to dedicate for clear that won't break the bank
Iaf you dont want any orange peel, wod you turné the pressure up to 3 bar?
Always great videosđđ»
Would you recommend the flg5 or this Kiwanis? For Base and clear coats if you were to just use one of these? Its hard to pick a weapon because every gun review you put put the paint is fantastic, lol
Can you drop a link below for the plastic used on the car? I loved the idea of throwing plastic over the whole car and then only cutting off the area/areas youre going to spray đđœ
