    I’ve been looking at your videos and I like them, thing is you’re there I’m here in Florida where I’m having some troubles with my door. Contractor installed this door seventeenth years ago and another had replaced the torsion spring with the same ones, my problem is I’m replacing door opener’s and the most important one is I cannot open the door by myself, two people are more likely to open it.
    I currently have a Ryobi belt drive which I was happy with until yesterday the belt was all twisted up, Ryobi is sending me a complete belt drive which I’m happy for, now from what I’ve learned from you is the torsion springs is not the correct ones used for my door because my door has four hurricane reinforcements bars which is 2 1/2 x 4 x 2 1/2 with no insulation and it’s very heavy, I’m wondering what size of spring do you think I should use thanks for your help

I have a broken galvanized .225x1 3/4 30 on the left side and a .225x1 3/4 27 (oiled metal) or the black kind interestingly on the right side, I am about to replace both but the question is; do you think I should go with same spring .225x1 3/4 the 29 length or should I go with 30 inches? I guess the last contractor who was hired by the former owner just stuffed in whatever he had for the money he was Offred or who knows what and now I have different length on each side. Hello. It would be important to know the details about your garage door before deciding. Does the garage door contractor know the weight? Does he know the brand and model? Is the track assembly a special configuration? These questions might help guide you to know your door better.
      With that said, your door might benefit from springs that offer higher cycle life. You can get the answer to these questions then you can make a better decision.

    Hello, Thank you for this video. I was completely in the dark about the shortage of springs and this helped a lot. So I have a standard 7 x 16 non insulated door no windows. I released the operator and weighed it with a bathroom scale and it reads 102lbs. It currently has a pair 207 x 2 x 22 1/2" springs. To save on the cost I'd like to go to a single spring. So do you still recommend a single 250 x1.75 x 33 even though my door is lighter than you mentioned in the video? Thanks again!

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 2 lety +1

      @sosgds  Před 2 lety

      Hello Robert. Thanks for question. In reality there would be nothing wrong with have the springs on same side. The counterbalance spring system would just need to be straight and balanced just a normal configuration.
      Yet I do believe your garage door is bit heavier. Thus if you have the opportunity to upgrade the tube to a thicker gauge and go with a higher cycle spring, you should potentially get more efficiency out of your garage door system. Hoe this helps.

Yet I don't recommend it because it offers lower cycle life. I would suggest a pair of .225 x 1 3/4" x30's or .225 x 1 3/4" x 28" ... It will also depend of the type of insulated door you have. I have 5 local distributors near me and none of them can sell me a pair of springs. There is a distributor that will sell me one pair ... but all they have are black cone springs as of this date (9/7/2021) I realize that the current status in our industry has created huge price increases everywhere. In fact, I have had to raise my own prices for all repairs I do. But there a number of companies that are well known in my area that have utilized the current situation to take advantage of homeowners in desperate need. Again, I'm simply conveying the new normal that we are living in the So Cal area. But we will get thru this one way or another.

    The suppliers are price gouging! Springs are up 300% in Phx! WHOLESALE Retail price from me and others has gone 30% over normal cost. Funny thought when supply chain is replenished the prices will NOT come back down! It will take years or price shopping to get somewhere close to normal pricing. Imagine how many new guys start each day/year and this will be their norm this will add to the logic of why lower the price? (Per the manufacturers).

      😨😱🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 ... I had no idea how it was in AZ. I guess that' why I made this video. I was curious to see if other areas had similar issues and challenges. And you bring up a great point about the new guys coming into the business and their perception of the grown inflation in pretty much all businesses. Thanks for the feedback.

      It has, at least in part, to do with the dollar collapsing. Some prices might come back down, many, likely, won't.

    I'm doubting this video is going to give me hacks to run with *no* springs, at all.
    ETA: Clickbait. Yep. I watched it. Gave him the benefit of the doubt. I took the time to watch it all.
    Pretty much all he talks about is using springs or getting springs.
    Even talking about setting up a counterweight system would have made it honest.
    Nope.
    Let's talk about springs. Using springs, assembling springs, buying springs, installing springs, pricing springs, sourcing springs.... Everything except *No Springs*

      overhead sectional garage doors do not open without counterbalancing with springs. You can counterbalance with weights but it is not very safe.

      Spring Blocks didn't make the cut. My experience with them are not good.

      in a pinch ...they absolutely get the door up and running...I hate them myself , but if your left with a choice of door not working vs door working ....hmm...they are ugly but I've seen doors that were blocked 5 years ago ,but service guy never returned and they are still working.....many springs break because of an occlusion in the metal and if that weak point is eliminated , then they go back to cyclical breakage....just pointed this out for potential hard times

      That's sound reasoning. I will have see if using them during this spring shortage does the trick.

    Legend says America used to make steel and form it into springs, is this true? Or was that all a pretend thing from fairy tales of long ago?

    you did not say crap about operating a door without springs. Maybe you should rephrase or re title your video name !

    I do not think charging a higher price for something that is in such strong demand and such low supply is price gouging. You do not have to have a garage door spring to go through your daily life. This is a first world country and to have an overhead door like that is a privilege.

    • @sosgds
      @sosgds  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the feedback. The elder and disable might disagree with you. In an area where extreme weather is an everyday occurrence, a garage door will protect from the elements and provide safe shelter to a home. Privilege or not, we all want to feel safe entering our home.
