  • I am making a plug and play amp harness for my 2016 Jeep Wrangler. To do so I was using 2 Metra writing harness connectors and some speedwire.
    For the female side I used a Metra 70-6522 Radio Wiring Harness:
    amzn.to/2wxysf8
    For the male side I used a Metra Reverse Wiring Harness 71-6522:
    amzn.to/2FZFuss
    I also used Metra MC918-20 20-Feet Nine-Conductor 18 AWG Twisted Multi-Use Cable:
    amzn.to/2wqjYxn
    While making the harness, I needed to remove pins from Metra connectors, and I used this tool:
    Kalolary 11Pcs/Set Terminal Removal Tools Car Electrical Cable Wiring Crimp Connector Pin Extractor Kit Car Repair Hand Tool Set Plug key
    amzn.to/2IvjET2
    This is being used to hook up my Kicker 45KEY1804 4-channel 45 x 4 Key Smart Amplifier
    amzn.to/2GA7LtL
    Filmed on my LG V20 being held by a Vastar Mobile Phone Mount:
    amzn.to/2gSo3DL
    mounted on an AmazonBasics 50-Inch Lightweight Tripod with Bag
    amzn.to/2gRroCL

    Been struggling with this for and hour and you showed me what I wanted to see. It's a pain in the ass and I dont have that tool so I had a new approach. I bought a spare Metra harness and I cut mine up with a bandsaw and pulled the pieces out.

      RIGHT??! This never ceases to amaze me how utterly brainless people can be, making videos of "how to" do something, whilst doing everything that the viewer needs to see... COMPLETELY OFF CAMMERA! Then they show you the result! "There you go! It's done!"

    I had success with a bobby pin BUT I had to insert it through the connector side, not the wire side like in the video. You have to try all four sides to find the latch. In my case, the latches were on the opposite side from the connector's overall latch. Good luck.

    I needed to move one unused wire to an open position to connect the adapter for my steering wheel controls. I stuck a lock pick in like you showed, and it popped right out. Moved it over, and it snapped right in.

    If I want to go about adding 3 pins to a harness I'm going to use for an Android deck, can I just grab the harness pin ends and crimp them to the existing cables I have? Or do I need to get separate cables with harness pins and solder those to my existing cables?
    Also, is it possible to buy just those harness pins?

    • @5after12
      @5after12  Před 5 lety

      I would assume you can just crimp them, but I am not fully sure of what you are looking for

      @@5after12 So in detail:
      I have a 20-pin harness that is missing 3 pins (just how its sold). I want to add those 3 pins in. Those 3 pins are wires from a 3.5mm aux cable that will go into the aftermarket male harness that will attach to the oem female harness.
      I was told I can solder the 3.5mm aux wires (3) to the oem female harness, however soldering inside that tiny space where a double din deck sits is not something I want to do.
      So the question is how and can I add pins to the end of those 3 wires from the 3.5mm aux cable to modify the aftermarket harness I currently have. I can't seem to figure out how to search for just the metal pins or how the would connect to wire. Alternatively, I could spend another $20 for a pre-made harness but I don't want to wait 1 week for shipping.
      The other question was basically should I look to add the metal connectors to the 3.5mm aux cable wires (3) or alternatively find 3 already pinned wires, pin them into the harness then solder my 3.5mm aux jack to those newly introduced wires?

    • @5after12
      @5after12  Před 5 lety +1

      I could not solder in that space, but I am not good at it.
      I would buy a 2nd harness and remove wires from it and place them in the one you want

      @@5after12 And that should work even if the colors of the wires don't match?

    • @5after12
      @5after12  Před 5 lety +1

      Yeah, I think the colors are just for identification, as long as the right wires are connected the colors don't matter. It would just be confusing

      I know this is an old comment, but the other end is Molex MicroFit. They have 2 latches, but only enough room to loosen one pin at a time, so its a PITA. I should also note that the MicroFit pins are not meant to be reused when removed because they will most likely be damaged.
