Thanks for the detailed video. Just did this project on my ram. I was able to take the lenses off and push the bulbs out from the back to avoid disassembling the whole unit. Great work and thanks for your time and effort. People like you make so many jobs easier.
Finally got around to doing this. Video really helped. When I did the vanity mirrors I put all 4 in backwards at first and had to turn them around. While watching this I was wondering how you were going to test them out before you put that all back together. I was starting to get discouraged. Then I saw how you tested them. When I went to test mine both were in correct. A miracle.
Great video. Thx for the useful info. I will agree with others it’s not at all necessary to take the overhead apart that much to swap the bulbs. Had it done in 10 mins.
I just did the same install on lasfit led bulbs.. I did map lights just like you did. I found that I had more wires to unplug and followed the same way as you did.. No broken taps and it was a well worth upgrading the interior.. Thanks again for your video.
Great video...minus the part where you take apart the entire maplight assembly...not necessary at all...yes take it off the roof and remove wires and get assembly into your lap. Take your time and use plastic pry tools to get the lense off (hench not marring your plastic trim) take your time remove the bulbs. Much easier. Thanks for the video tho!
If your an old guy like myself who can’t see to good even with my prescription glasses, I wouldn’t recommend doing it. My vision wasn’t good enough to get good contact on the LED bulbs with the socket and neither bulb would light up. So I finally tried putting the stock bulbs back in and wasn’t successful at that either. Now I don’t have any map lights, bummer.
The foot well lights on a 2021 models is much different! Otherwise, everything was spot on. I didn't have to disassemble the map light unit as much. The reflectors can be manipulated enough to allow the bulbs to be replaced.
Eeeasy day. Tony! Thanks for introducing me to LasFit LEDs, too! I tried to use them in my cab's 3rd brake light, but they didn't work??? The dome LED did and it's 100x better. Thanks, man. Keep up the good work.
Great video, walked me through every step perfectly. So much easier than figuring it out as I go. And I also bought LASFIT, I like that they're American made. Just ordered some H11 bulbs as well!
Thank you for the VERY informative video!! I've been putting this off for awhile now. I watched your video and finally got it done with no problems. Keep up the good work. I'll be following you
Hey, great how-to! I just posted a video for the Lasfit install for my ‘21 Ram 2500 and cited/recommended this video because it did such a great job on the map light install.
Thanks! Did you have any issues with yours? Some people have mentioned that the 2020 and newer trucks had issues with the key fob not working or windows not working once switching to LED lights.
Thanks man for this video, wouldn’t been able to do this project without your help. Didn’t break anything. Damn those map lights what a pain lol but got through it! Thanks again man for the video!
WAY too much work. I just pulled the console, popped the lenses off, pushed the bulbs out from the back, inserted the led's from the front, snapped the lenses back on, done. Took less than 5 minutes for the whole process from start to finish.
That will work in some instances, but many people struggle to get the old bulbs out and new bulbs in when trying to go through the lenses, especially if the new bulb happens to be a bit on the bulkier side.
I'm so glad I read down to this comment. I had the assembly in my lap in the house looking at it and could see the back of the bulbs then I remembered this comment and popped those lenses off. With a little wiggling and some tools I was able to do this. I was wearing rubber gloves because one person said the reflectors are very easy to dirty up with fingerprints.
If you mean the light that shines straight down at night on the cup holder area, I'm pretty sure it's soldered to a circuit board. I didn't pay super close attention when I had it apart, but if you look at 11:20, you can see the square piece that my right thumb is on is what houses that light. I wouldn't think there's room in there for a replaceable bulb. If you're super ambitious and good at soldering, you could probably solder your own LED to the circuit board.
I actually traded the truck in back in November of 2021, but they didn’t skip a beat up to that point, and the truck saw down to -30° in winter and up to 100° in summer.
Yeah they definitely can break easily haha. Did you get settled in somewhere? I remember you moved but were having some issues finding housing or something.
Great video. When I did this today, the door/OFF switch came out from the overhead console. I was able to reseat it but it doesn’t seem to be functioning. Any ideas on how to resolve?
You mean the piece at 11:27? That’s weird I didn’t have any issues with that. I’m guessing it’s not making good connection after you reinstalled it. You can kind of see at around 11:50 that there appears to be 3 almost tan looking things with metal ovals going around them on the circuit board. I’m guessing yours isn’t making good connection there or where it attaches.
My overhead console is different. It has the slim/long plastic lens rather than the ones in your video. Also, I dont have a dome light since it was the panoramic sunroof. Instead, it has similar map lights above the doors. Are they same size bulbs? I used lasfit for the rear lights and had put them in my GX460 previously. Theyre great; want better lighting in the RAM. Thanks in advance.
To be honest, I’m not sure if they’re the same bulb style for all of them. I’ve actually not been in a Ram with a sunroof haha. You’d have to pop a bulb out or email Lasfit to ask them probably, otherwise I’m sure there’s a few posts on the 5th gen Ram page about it. Sorry I can’t help more
Pretty much how they look on camera. I’d consider them a bright white. Cool white is usually more blue. There is a very slight blue to them, but not nearly as much as other LEDs
Thanks for the well detailed video man it really helped me out changing all the bulbs in my truck. I saw 2 other videos but yours was the best since you explained it with a lot more details and took your time to show us.
I would email lasfit and ask them directly. Mine is a 2019 but I’ve heard of 2020 and newer having remote start issues or something after switching to LED. Mine was fine though.
@TonyTheTruckGuy new body style. I've looked at so many video but none of them show how to replace the longer looking overhead light or the dome light.
@@TonyTheTruckGuy There are separate LED RAM letters that can replace the original letters. It's then connected to a power source, which lights up, and now even has RGB colors, which can be adjusted to your liking on your phone.
@@CZcams372a I swear I saw a thread on the 5th gen ram forums for an LED upgrade but now I'm not finding it and nobody lists the bulb numbers lol. You know, that's a great question, and I honestly can't remember. I traded the truck in 2 years ago, otherwise I'd go check for you lol. I WANT to say they still faded. Only because I don't recall a sudden "off".
@@bbminetesting6837 Haha, good! I was going to say I think they fade but maybe just slightly more sudden than the stock bulbs but good to know for future reference!
