      My picks of the year are the Aputure 120d and the Lupo Superpanel full color 30.. Just publishing a review on that little beast today actually. It's insane. Also for budget studios the Godox SL60w.

      Just got me the Falcon Eyes RX-18T (with softbox and grid), amazing soft light and yep super lite light. @dslr Video Shooter What were you using on your Falcon Eyes in place of the stock mount?
      I also purchased the Aputure M9 just for extra background flare. I got two Tarion TL-10 for small background RGB lights and they are powerful. Those are my favorite lights of the year.

      The Falcon Eyes RX-24TDX. Picked up two of those over the summer and just love them. Also love the Yongnuo YN360 as a handheld key/fill or for slashes of color.

    Caleb, I'll never regret how many times I've recommended colleagues (especially in my home state of Mississippi) to your videos. I've never gotten bad advice from you and I can definitely vouch for the gear reviews that have inspired most of my recent purchases... including the Aperture F7. Used it tonight as a single, on-camera-light to film a Christmas parade and it turned out to be the best light I've ever used on a camera in any situation. For most situations I'm in, they could easily be used as keys or fills w/diffusion. I'm going to buy a few more of those soon (I'll be sure you get your affiliate commission for that). Thanks, man.

    It's small, it's freaking light, the batteries last forever, and it's very useful for small lightings, and it's GREAT for indoor lightnings and unboxing or any youtube video.

    Thanks for another great video!
    It'd be helpful to know which (if any) of these lights have high quality dimmers that allow for high framerate filming.
    I use Quasars alot for work and love that I can do 240 fps so long as I have my shutter set correctly. However my T8 quasars don't have much punch so I've been thinking of picking up a 300D or large panel for when I have to combat daylight.

    Another great video Caleb, love your compilation videos as showing what you use consistently is often better info than just a straight up review. Some more aputures are definitely going to be on the horizon, but might go for those CameTV dedolikes, instead of the mini20's, anything specifically you prefere about the CameTV's or is it just the form factor?
    Also, how do you find matching slight colour differences between different manufacturers? A non issue, or do you typically stick to a certain manufacturers lights on an given shoot?

    Caleb, I would REALLY love to catch a glimpse into your workflow as far as color goes with the GH5S. It seems like you're always able to pull off such a consistent, crisp, beautiful look, which I know has a lot to do with lighting & backgrounds, but I'd love to know if you shoot with V-log or different profiles and what you specifically do to treat the color in post! Is that information included in your GH5/S guides?

  • @BushXCGL
    @BushXCGL Před 5 lety

    Hey Caleb, thanks for all the round-up videos and a happy new year to you.
    As a user of the Falcon Eyes Mats(I have the 24 and 36 versions), I notice that the color balance at 5600k as measured by my Sekonic C700 is not so much 5600K. It measures about 52xxK. Does yours exhibit the same issue too?
    I noticed also that moving one pip towards tungsten(reading on control box is 5550K), my C700 reading drops to 48xxK. As before, is it something you have noticed? I'm asking because I noticed that in your videos you use it as a key light, and it definitely looks close to white as compared to what I shoot when I balance camera and the light at 5600K, it gives a warmer skintone of sorts.

At the same time I need to be able to grab the light and move it quickly to another location for the bride and groom shoot outside. What would you recommend? have you heard of the Torch LED? will that be strong enough? or would you recommend one of these lights for my situation. I understand they have different color models and sizes, particularly for the Andromeda. But supposing you arranged them as a similar size, and I believe all your models shown are bicolor, who has the most punch?

      @@hautehussey I find it really tough to pick lights without seeing them in person! However, you can get the stats on nearly any light by searching on the light and model name plus the word "photometrics." Just like when you buy a car, the stated mileage values aren't objectively true but at least help you tell a gas guzzler from a gas sipper, by looking at photometrics (which lists the volume of light at different distances in foot candles, lux, or lumens) you can at least tell which is relatively weaker and stronger.

      You should check out the GODOX SL-60W. It’s kind of a cheap alternative to the Aputure 120d. Apart from that, he made a video about cheap LED lights here: czcams.com/video/AcBb-MInwBc/video.html

    Aputure 300D is an absolute beast, especially paired with some modifiers like the Light Dome II. However, my goal of using it un-tethered with V-mount batteries will have to wait a year or two until the budget allows another $1400 for the high output V-mounts. Nevertheless, this thing is by far the best single light I've ever used!

    • @dslrvideoshooter
      @dslrvideoshooter  Před 5 lety

      You definitely don't need $1400! Check these out: czcams.com/video/zwAgzI9GIvo/video.html two of the 190Wh batteries work with my 300D giving me 75 minutes of full output.

    One big question. Why the 120D mk II instead of the 300D?
    The later seems so more usefull due to the output!
    Thanks!

      @sergeiegorkin7873 Před 5 lety +3

      You are right, 120d II is weak, I'd call it usable for talking heads, or other occasions, when you're able to put the light closer to the subject, especially if you modify it with some kind of diffusion. 300D is an awesome light, 120d is just a bit weak

    • @dslrvideoshooter
      @dslrvideoshooter  Před 5 lety +4

      The 300D is overkill for a lot of situations and the 300D is bulky to setup and loud in comparison. If you're shooting larger scenes go for the 300D for sure! Otherwise, the 120DmkII is more than enough for interviews, general lighting.

      @@dslrvideoshooter Love your work Caleb - just wondering what % percentage power your C120 II is at in this video?? Assume you are using the big softbox?? Would love to see a comparison video with the 120 mk II using the bigger softbox vs the mini softbox ( mini seems a lot faster for location setups etc ? but worried about output quality )
      cheers + Keep up the great work!!

    What have been your thoughts on the Mini 20D lights from Aputure? I bought one to use primarily for weddings, but I'm kinda worried that I made the wrong choice. My friend uses two of the Came TV Boltzen 55W lights and loves them, but one is already not working after not even a full year of use. I know you made the review a while back on the little Aputure lights, just curious if you have any other thoughts after having had more time to work with them. Great work as always!

    • @seecraig
      @seecraig Před 5 lety

      I also use the Mini 20D. I remember one diff between and the Boltzen is that the 20D barn doors cut sharper. I felt that was important.
      I'm not crazy about "dangling" power sources though.

      @@seecraig aha yes and you can see the aputure 20ds in the background on the shelf - im assuming Caleb chose not to mention them despite their great power options is perhaps because of the fan noise

    • @seecraig
      @seecraig Před 5 lety

      @@johnleighdesigns fan noise doesn't seem to be an issue when used as hair/kicker or even background. Perhaps another reason is that while the Boltzen can use Bowens mount but the Mini 20d can't. Might be the Boltzens are a bit more versatile.

    • @dslrvideoshooter
      @dslrvideoshooter  Před 5 lety

      I like the Aputure Mini20D's, but the color temp gets annoying as you need gels. Also having the power separate can get fidgety which is why I now prefer the F55/F30. That said, I know some people get bad copies that don't last as long.

    The aputure F7 - how bright is that light compared to the core swx led light which has the 250W rating. This is the problem with these led lights - one says 250W another says 60W how do we know which is brighter? You will imagine that the 250W is brighter and this Aputure light does not even have a watt rating.
