@@broaderFOCUS It can depend a bit, the problem isn't so much when using one or two mics, often times a lot of the more expensive comes down to coordinating multiple channels of wireless. Things like antenna distribution, quality of RF filtering, etc. make more of a difference there. You do get some differences when talking analog companders vs digital signals, but that applies cheap or expensive as there are cheap digital mics as well these days. Also you can look at some aspects such as latency that don't make as much of a difference in filming as they do live.

When on the subject of sound, off camera sound is an option with multiple performers. Smaller Zoom, Tascam, Olympus, and related products are able to capture up to 24 bit 96K sample sound in stereo or more for post production. For outdoor film with just speech, some of the personal audio recorders produce excellent sound with a decent mic. Even some cell phones are used as field recorders. Best to put those in airplane mode. Way too many youtube videos are interrupted by a text message. Many cheap wireless mics have poor frequency response and an ever present background hiss of poor S/N ratio.

I've been using the Falcon Eyes Bi-color mats (18's and 2x2) for a couple years now. They've traveled, been smashed, in the rain and totally abused. Only thing that starts to fail is some of the fabric stitching but who cares. Totally love them and so versatile. Mine don't exhibit any green/magenta shift. May be some QC issues with different batches coming from the factory which wouldn't be surprising. Nice thing about Amazon is you can just return them and get another if the color isn't spot on.

I’ve used the Wescott lighting and the cheapo LEDs and the biggest drawback for me on the cheap LEDs is the low CRI. They throw a green spike that is very unflattering. You can use a 1/4 magenta (minus green) gel to help that but it’s never perfect. But still, $2,000 vs $200? I can live with a little green if I absolutely need a flexible fabric light.

I have two fl-3060a led panels - the bi-colour version of the fositan (many different brands offering the same thing rebranded) and the CRI seems pretty good to my eye. I haven't noticed and green/magenta casts and am pretty happy with them so far. Will have to see how long they last but so far no problems. Wireless control in the box is nice and can control both lights with one remote - just don't lose it as there's no other way to control them. I believe "Travor" is the manufacturer so will have the best price compared to the rebrands.

The hidden from view behind the scenes in these videos is the maker of the panel is known, but the maker of the LED's is not known. The maker of the LED's is responsible for the CRI and color temperature of the final product. Intensity and heat management varies by manufacture of the panel. The brighter panels may have higher brightness LED's or are simply driven harder for shorter service life. Any old fossels on here who remember the number BBA photoflood bulb. Service life 3 hours.
A true test of the LED panels is to measure the color spectrum. By charting the Color Rendition Metrics the chart of intensity vs wavelength is graphed and compared to other light sources such as short arc discharge, metal halide, mercury vapor, tungsten, sunlight, or halogen. When ordering office lighting panels, the manufacture will often provide CRI and spectral charts for the more upper end panels used in retail and grocery spaces to make the produce stand out. If you need the roll up panel you can pay the premium. If you have a studio, studio and stage lighting are often produced to very high standards. Panels built for energy management often have excellent CRI and full DMX dimming.

Would've been nice to test portability. You mentioned how you travel with the westcott lights, can you travel as well with the cheap alternatives?
