    Think about what Doyle's brain does; it remembers the notes, sends messages to his fingers to play them, keeps track of the timing, gets ready for the next note/notes, listens to the audience and keeps him standing up, breathing, etc. The sheer volume and frequency of what he accomplishes is nothing short of amazement.

    I've sat and enjoyed bands, danced enjoying bands, played in bands (just filling in while the individual member went to the bathroom and came back.), from the ripe old age of 16, on up till in my upper 30's. I've enjoy-joyed sitting in the audience, listening to Dolly Parton (one of my favorites), and a local concert at a amusement park where I was AWE-STRUCK when Imma Jean did her song, "SWEET THING," and I've been in "Boots Randolphf's club in Nashville, listening to his Yackety Sax, LIVE on stage, but when Doyle Dykes came to GraceWorks Church, Chattanooga, as a favor to his friend Dr. Dennis Newman, our pastor and did a service while Dennis was out sick, the QUALITY and REVERANCE this man showed God, was astounding. You knew God was in this man's Life! God has blessed him immeasurably.
    I play the guitar and understand its concept and what it can do. Doyle Dykes pushes the limits of all it's properties...lets just say, I consider him THE best guitarist in THE WORLD! (He's right there with Roy Clark!) You can FEEL the Love flowing out of that instrument, as Doyle pours his spirit thru it !!! THAT'S DOYLE DYKES !!!!

    I didn't win my school talent show either. I know the feeling.
    Mind you I was much more "rock" at the time. Me and my friends seen folks doing more then they were supposed to. I had been scheduled to do one song, so in a hurry we thought we'd add on too. Originally I was just going to do Eruption, which at the time, in 1985, before internet and a billion folks showing you how to play it, was pretty extreme.
    So we're like whats in Em we can do to pad the set. We decided quickly on the live version of Paranoid by Black Sabbath with the "Heaven and Hell" intro. So we go on, and blow the stage away. I'd just went to Deep Purples Perfect Strangers concert in Flint Mi., and I had all my Ritchie Blackmore moves down including the cord flips and the tone knob changes. I walk off to the full auditorium of screaming classmates, and everyone that's in the show is blown away, and congratulating me, cause everyone knew I was going to win......lol....Then I didn't. And everyone back stage looked at me like "what?". The judges where from a ballet school, a country western radio station, and something else. I just didn't go over well with that crowd. But all the jocks now wanted to be my friend to play parties.
    Well that's my talent school show story.....

    Doyle Dykes plays Classical Gas very well. When Tommy Emmanuel plays his version of the song, or any song for that matter, it's on a whole new level. You have to listen and watch him play to believe it. Tommy was self-taught playing the guitar. He turned professional at age 6. He's truly gifted and very humble about it.

      I personally like Doyle Dykes better in general (also like TE) and I must admid I think it is not a good thing to compare guitarists (on that level) like some kind of athletics "Emanuel vs. Dykes". It simply makes no sense to me. Music should not be about whose music is harder to play or on a higher technical level, maybe what I dislike about Emanuel are his fans and their fan-talk "whole new level"-bla-bla 🙂 reminds me of those critics in classical music.

      Maybe it's because of your need for perfection that you feel compelled to be overly critical of others. You remind me of someone whose dominance has been threatened and so you feel it necessary to regain an upper hand. Not this time, pal. You've got your opinion. I've got mine. As I said, Tommy's playing skill is on a higher level than Doyle's.

    • @2009framat
      @2009framat Před rokem

      @@mikecrook8434 Don't get on the personal level 🙂 You did not understand what I wanted to say. I do not feel "threatened" and it has nothing to do "my opinion vs your opinion"! - I do not like the way of seeing everything under the aspect of competition: music, certain versions of songs (on high levels), opinions etc.. Competition in sports is ok because that's is what is all about but in music and art it is (for me) not a good idea. We can disagree about that (all that competions and auditioning in classical music - some people think there is a need for all this). Of course there are certain levels of technical aspects of music and Emanuel has proably the wider range but it makes no sense (for me) putting everything "under a microskope" in order to turn it into a competion who is the better one. Your comment would have made sense to me if you (for example) would have compared Emanuels version with someone who is playing guitar for 3 years or someone who is copying Emauel's version note by note adding nothing originality to it. Of course in these case Emanuel's playing would be on a higher level. But turning comparisons always into competions? Okay for sports but not for music (my opinion) and because of that I did not blame Emanuel but his fans 🙂

      Therefore, you're saying you don't like his fans and what they say, which means you don't like what I said. Then you told me not to get on a personal level. My response was a personal view as was yours, which puts whatever each of us says on a personal level. Your intense need to be right isn't going to get my respect. You have your opinion. I have mine. Live and let live. Trying to direct your influence over others is a domineering trait. You're welcome to try it, but you may not be thrilled with the consequences.

    I’d love for this musician to explain to all his young aspirants how he learned time. He’s on, all-the-time! BTW: it would be wonderful in so many ways for he and Terry Kath to share licks on 25. Kath was amazing, different styling, but Doyle gives nothin’ away to anyone.

    Kinda sounded like "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" by Led Zeppelin in between switching from "Classical Gas" to "25 or 6 to 4" Edit: I ran through them both, apparently the LZ and Chicago songs do have the same chord progression. Never noticed that before.
