Naw, his smile is wider like he cant help himself, when he looks off to the left side of the screen. When she laughs you can see it in his face. I bet they make eachother laugh all the time and they just end up in a feedback loop sometimes.
When he calls her "Darling," you can tell he actually means it
That actually felt affected to me, but in the whatever-pet-name-he-almost-called-her-was-a-bad-idea way, so he course corrected to darling.
What I love most about Evie being there is that Stephen goes extra hard to make her laugh. And when she does, he's just so happy because she's laughing and that makes her happy and they're both happy and it makes me happy to see them happy. That make any sense? XD

Here's this guy, Steven Colbert, who has a very successful comedic career; and he is (and I hope I say this right) acting like a dorky 12-year-old desperately trying to make this girl he likes laugh so that maybe, just maybe, she'll like him back. And that is so adorable.

She is the equivalent of Tom Hanks on a show. It’s classed up and there’s such a sense of joy amidst the wings. Personally I think she’s even better!
Even when Evie's not on screen, you can tell if she's on-set - Stephen just oozes adoration every time she laughs, or every time he looks her way... it's disgustingly cute!

Evie is the best addition to the show. Anytime she’s on set, it’s automatically a better show. You can tell how much they love one another. I hope this is a permanent addition.

This clears up a mystery I've had. I was wondering how many people were around for this, because I only ever hear one or two laughing. So it's just Stephen, Mark, and Evie. If she's still laughing after 27 years, that's a good sign. Great idea for Valentine's day Evie. Can't wait to suggest it to my wife like it was my idea.

Honestly, I wasn't sure what to think at first...
I knew that this is Stephen Colbert, and he's not going to make a cheap or cruel joke...
...but I wasn't 100% sure if he was going to address the "issues" implied by the card...or how he could do that without either being offensive, or turning a pure comedy segment into a political statement.
Turns out he knew the BEST statement he could make is no statement at all.
An affirming and supportive message might be well-meaning, but it wouldn't be funny--and it would highlight the couple depicted on the card as "different"😝
And he knew he could do more good, and send a better message by simply treating it exactly like the other cards.

i always have to giggle at that brand name Cliquot. In Dutch the word kliko (same pronounciation) means garbage can, big contrast with the chique brand.
@@chilanya LOL I didn't know that. It's also very funny because the brand's color is bright orange, which I was told is also a favorite color of the Dutch. Oh and by the way, the brand's full name is Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin, but everybody shortens it.

The Show is sooooo much better since Covid. Honestly, the usual show was really starting to feel faked, almost like a Jesters Performance. Now, it feels like we just sitting with Colbert in his living room as he makes his wife and friends laugh. :D A Late Show Show is a rare Good Thing about Covid :D

I agree with the intimacy of the COVID shows. Stephen has said how much he misses an audience, but I don't. I like the raw honesty of this format. If anything, I wish he and this show could be unfettered by the time constraints of TV.
