  • @papapetad
    @papapetad Před 4 měsíci +22

    I really don't get why so few "track" cars lack bonnet vents to help extract heat, especially since engine bays of new cars are so cramped and the heat gets trapped under stupid covers and such. Air gets pushed in the front air dam then has nowhere to go and you get a high pressure build up in the heat exchange zone. Extra cooling helps but airflow management is just as important. It can be integrated into the design smoothly also; it doesn't have to stick out like a sore thumb. Other than that, great mods on the car and it goes hard.

Those who tune these engines doesn't understand that for each and every modification to the engine by the factory, engineers load the engine under full throttle test for hours and measure hundreds of parameters... The sound of the turbine just speaks about the absence of a bow-off. This sound causes a surge - when the air flow with the throttle closed does not find an outlet and hits the turbine impeller.
    UPD. This reduces the service life of the turbine, but in this way the motor response is better, due to the absence of pressure reduction in the intake manifold

    Really disappointing to see yet another very capable and well built track weapon being hampered by tuners/builders not realising that part of a good build includes making sure that the car actually is capable of running at full pelt without blowing up.
    In this case, there wasn't even that much "racing" done due to the two big yellows and barely making it halfway up the uphill section. Just don't understand why builders treat such an important part of the car as "that'll do i guess", rather than making sure that the car is capable of running the power they throw at it. And to be clear, the car was skirting 120C at foxhole already (with a yellow prior).
    It's an essential part of a build - extracting 500+ horsepower can be done with basically any engine, the only question is "for how long", which is where a good builder can show off his craftsmanship. One thing to always keep in mind: the only reason this car didn't blow up was because computers prevented it to. It's just disappointing, since otherwise the car seemed absolutely amazing.

      @AI-Records24 Před 4 měsíci +3

      I do wonder who’s done the work because NVM won’t let you walk out the door without properly addressing cooling on such a build. I do cooling FIRST. People really get their ideas from the internet and mistake it for knowledge around track use. Shame that people are so fixated on dyno and draggy runs these days that they forget the car won’t be able to do anything twice or back to back when just going for power is the goal. I’m not putting it on this guy by the way, maybe he just doesn’t know and of course the tuner never told him, which is what I’m saying generally happens when anyone can open a tuning shop lift a few limitations copy and paste tables and increase boost.

      Yeah that's complete rubbish. Like the majority of the inline 3.0L BMW engines, the DV is recirculating and doesn't vent to atmosphere. Actuator is set automatically, no such thing as too tight lol.

    OG M2 is significantly lighter but f87 M2 comp is 1655kg on a scale , g87 zf8 with carbon roof and buckets is 1710kg with full tank, only 55kg heavier .

      No, according to factory claims it is around 150 kg difference. The weight of the M2 Comp you stated is with full tank and driver weight, whereas G87s >1700 kg are without 75 kg for the driver. DIN weights for manuals are as follows: M2 - 1495 kg, Comp 1550 kg, G87 1700 kg. Difference for auto/DCT is 25-30 kg extra.
